I'm dumbfounded at the news, and remembering the shock when KA left, too. Striding ever forward, a huge chunk of my life, and my growth process is wrapped up with those two incredible human beings. Freedom is precious, especially the freedom to choose to leave. I respect the choices one has made, knowing that some day, it could be me, or my husband, or my child.

Alaskan serial killer Israel Keyes has really taken away a lot of innocence for Alaskans. I feel it, my coworkers feel it. He stalked so many people in his time up here that I don't see how anyone can go back to feeling secure in their lives. Pay attention to your surroundings. Listen to your instincts. If something feels wrong, get out of there. We'll never know how many more are here in our lives, walking side by side with us, and we're oblivious to the potential danger. Protect yourselves.

Sometimes, it's the most unimaginably small things in life that make it all worth it. For me, right now, it's the soft ambient lighting from a set of acorn Christmas lights graciously given to me by a beloved coworker.

I just made the most awesome breakfast omelette evaaaarrrrrrrr.
Started out with sauteed mushrooms, added beef broth, let simmer down to half (reduction). At the same time in a separate pan, cooked down the maple-smoked sausages. At the same time in yet another pan, sauteed green peppers and more mushrooms, til soft. When initial mushroom sauce was reduced, I added some half and half, let that simmer some more, and then added an entire sprig of rosemary to the sauce to flavor it.
When the sausages were done, I cut them up and added them to the green peppers and mushrooms, and also threw in a bunch of shredded cheddar cheese. I pulled the rosemary mushroom sauce off the heat, let it sit while I made up the omelettes. Omelettes were stuffed with green pepper mixture, folded up, then gently covered with the rosemary mushroom sauce.
