It's quite ironic that I have to use a registry fix from a third party site to keep Microsoft from shoving their Windows 10 privacy nightmare update down my throat.

What's more, I had uninstalled and denied the KB3035583 update that shows the obnoxious notification, and now Microsoft decided to just bring it back. That's bordering on malware.

As a result, I disabled automatic Windows updates on my system entirely, and carefully check the list of updates that are "on offer."

And how the folks at Microsoft came to the conclusion that rolling out a 2.6GB download for a new OS version as an "update" through their Windows Update mechanism to millions of W7/W8.1 PCs is completely beyond me. This pushiness reeks of desperation.

I find the way Google promotes the Collections wrong.

I've been looking at the follower numbers of my G+ Collections yesterday and interestingly, my "Music (mostly ambient & electronic)" collection has ~4000 followers more than the other collections - which probably means that it was "Featured" at some point in people's "All" stream. (which is rather nonsensical, since 80% of what I'm actually posting and what my presence here really is about is [my] photography, not music - thanks, Google!;-)

And even though I love ambient and electronic music, I'm definitely not an authority on ambient & electronic music - throw some names at me and I probably don't even know half of them.

I use my collections like "post categories" in a weblog. I've been waiting for this feature basically ever since the launch of Google+. I can post about a more diverse set of topics that interest me, and my followers get a choice because they can unfollow collections on an individual basis - for those who are not interested in my taste in music, for example.

Yet the way Featured Collection are presented, it looks as if they were curated content, compiled by some authority - when in reality, it's just one single user like me, who categorizes her or his posts that way. Or is everyone who is able to set up and maintain a collection an expert automatically? ;-) The way collections are featured here, it certainly looks like that...___

"California's fiercely independent Coastal Commission has been an amazing success for 40 years. You can drive Highway 1 from Santa Barbara to Monterey and not see a single stoplight. Our pristine coastline and unspoiled beaches are the envy of the world.

Yet for as long as the commission has existed, real estate developers and their lobbyists have wanted to weaken it, or dispatch it altogether. Now those efforts have reached a critical point. Lobbyists for land developers have persuaded commissioners to fire Charles Lester, the executive director of the Coastal Commission's staff."

I made this photo on the same visit to Torrey Pines where I also photographed Flat Rock at low tide, but somehow it had escaped my attention and I haven’t shown it anywhere yet.
