A heartfelt rant for +Google Play Music
As always. Disgruntled Canuck 'n sh!t.
So it has come to this. I can use +Google Play Books to its fullest extent, uploading personal eBooks as I please, probably even uploading newspaper epubs in the future [I need APIs!]. I can use +Google Play Magazines to subscribe to american eZines [though the Paper Subscription Recognition still hasn't hit up here; hurry up, dang it]. I can use +Google Play Apps for all my Android stuffs. I can use +Google Play Devices to buy the latest and greatest Android devices.
But I can't use +Google Play Movies to buy/rent Canadian TV series such as Continuum, or use +Google Play Music to buy and encourage the Cowboys Fringants, a local folk band [I wouldn't anyway, but it's for the illustration]. The content on the +Google Play Store, Music-wise, is enough to satisfy linguist... more »

Android 4.2.2 coming to HTC One soon, “Senseless” edition later this summer?
Let's not push those HTC One with stock Android reports off to the side just yet. The latest comes from a famed HTC insider. They report a Senseless version is coming later this summer and that HTC One owners should get 4.2.2 in a few weeks.
If these are true. I really hope this trend continues.

My son and I agree. The new World Trade Center rocks. Google Glass? The hit of the crowds in New York.
Our bartenders were just raving over them. A guy on the street stopped me and asked if I had Glass. "yep."
"Sick!"
Translation for those who don't understand youth language: "can I try them on pretty please?"
#throughglass of course!

Offer posts in Google+: Easily save and share offers with your circles
Millions of people follow brands they love on Google+ to keep tabs on them, get the latest news on products, join in on the conversation or simply to be entertained. Many people also engage with businesses to get great deals and discounts. Starting today, we’re making it easier to discover, save and share offers right from Google+.
We’re beginning with a select group of brands like +ZAGAT , +Hello Kitty , +Art.com , +NOOK , +Adafruit Industries who can now share offers with their followers. If you follow any of these brands, you'll soon see offers from them in your stream. You can save these offers directly from the post. Once saved, you can use the Google Offers app or simply follow the email confirmation on how to easily redeem the offer online or in-store.

Not a zero-sum game
Congratulations to Sony for pushing the envelope further in openness. This makes one more device on which it's officially possible to run a pure AOSP system built from source, which obviously makes me very happy.
This is a great example that shows that the tech industry is not a zero-sum game: Sony providing additional capabilities on the Tablet Z didn't come at the expense of any other company, and nobody lost anything in the process. This is pure progress: something that was not possible yesterday is now possible, and nothing was taken away in the process.
I dream of a future where it'll be possible to run a fully Open Source operating system, top to bottom, on any mobile device. I've been working toward that goal for the last 4 years, I'll continue doing so as there's still some work left, and I'm happy to see that ... more »

Android Protips 3: Making Apps Work Like Magic
The video for my session is now available on YouTube! My goal this year was to help you stop developing for the future, and start defining the future itself. It focusses on strategies and practical techniques for building context-aware apps that delight your users to provide a visceral experience — all without ever revealing what makes the magic happen.

RUMOR: Android 4.3 launching on June 10th along with White Nexus 4
The white Nexus 4 is said to hit the Google Play Store on June 10, at which point Android 4.3 would also be released. Android and Me has apparently managed to get some hands-on time with the white Nexus 4 which appears to be a “carbon copy of the previous Nexus 4, just with a different color casing.”

Hangouts video chat blocked by AT&T
Oh, AT&T... If you're on AT&T's network and trying to use Hangouts video chat, you're probably experiencing issues. This isn’t the first time that AT&T has blocked video chat apps from working properly on its network, iPhone users may remember that FaceTime had issues when it first launched. Oddly enough, AT&T isn't blocking Hangout video calls on iPhones this time around, just Android.
Looks like +T-Mobile is a viable option, once again. (Hangouts work fine on Verizon for what it's worthy).

Android 4.3 and new Nexus 7 coming in July?
Oh rumors and speculation, how do we love the? Let me start off by saying that it makes complete sense for a new version of the Nexus 7 to launch in July. Why? The current or original Nexus 7 will be 1 year old then. Companies like to release product updates every year. That's nothing new, or exciting.
Why do we think a new version of Android is right around the corner. Well, Google's on a rough 6 month or so release schedule. We see Android 4.3 knocking on our web server door from time to time. The Nexus 4 recently received BT 4.0 certification. And, yesterday at Google I/O, Google announced that in the coming months, Android will include native support for Bluetooth Smart Ready and Bluetooth Smart devices (BLE). It's coming #soon.

Chatting with multiple people? Why not color code your conversations!
In a Hangout (chat window) type /bikeshed and hit enter.
You can repeat this until you find the desired conversation background color. Note: This is more of an Easter Egg and will not persist after you close the Hangout window.

Google+ Changes Layout - Users are typical users - Hate change
Every single time a platform that is loved makes a major change you'll find people that love and hate it. You'll find people that sing from the heavens I can't believe it took you thinks long to do this, It's AMAZING or OMG I HATE IT KILL IT WITH FIRE.
I remember the last couple major overhauls on Google+, the reactions have always been the same. In a few weeks you'll find a new thing to complain about and a new source to aim your torches and pitchforks at.
If you don't want to wait until you're conditioned into loving something you hate, you could always take a moment, stop complaining, and learn how to use the new user interface. Remember, Google does listen to us. Use that feedback button.

Whoever you’re sending money too doesn’t even need to have a Gmail account to receive money and it’s completely free if you’re sending money from your Wallet balance or if you’ve linked a bank account to Wallet.

Google+ Games getting the ax on June 30th
Coming at the end of June, Google+ Games is going away. When Google launched Games on G+, many people were apprehensive about it, thinking we'd see similar game invites and spam - ie. Facebook. Thankfully, Google hid G+ games on a separate stream. If you wanted to disable games, you could. In fact, you could make it like games didn't even exist at all.
Google+ Games is going away for good, to make way for a better service. Google Play Game Services
Google Play game services is a cross-platform game service and SDK on Android, iOS, and the web, enabling a rich set of in-game user experiences for cross screen gaming. Games that use game services can bring you many great experiences, including:

Over the past few months Google TV has gathered momentum by launching powerful features for our users such as the highest quality voice search of any TV product and strong manufacturer adoption of the platform. At Google I/O, it’s time to talk about developers and enabling them to bring more great experiences to TV.
Today, Google TV is moving to the latest version of Android (Jelly Bean, 4.2.2), and we’ve refactored Google TV so that our TV OEM partners can update to future versions of Android in a matter of weeks rather than months. For developers, this means you can build TV experiences using the latest Android APIs, including the NDK.
Today Google TV is also moving to the latest version of Chrome, and from now on Google TV benefits from Chrome updates on the same six week cycle that you’ve come to expect from Chrome. In Chrome on Google TV, we’ve added support for hardware... more »
