So #Xboxone  was revealed today.

The cool thing about this is that when you come home from work, you can just speak to it as a conversation, It is like another massive (hundreds of thousands of computers) brain in your living room. (I don't work for Xbox, this is what I took from watching this)

For example, When I arrive home from work/school:

voice> Xbox on
voice> Xbox play my playlist

You set the mood of what you want to hear. Then your're hungry, and you walk to the kitchen to cook dinner. Once you are done eating, you come to the living room and tell xbox to play your best game. Remember no more discs!:

voice> Xbox play call of duty

All of the sudden a breaking news happened, CNN Windows 8 app notifications will appear:

voice> CNN Show News

48 hours till  #xboxreveal  where Xbox is going to reveal the new generation gaming. The last reveal was in 2005 with Xbox360 and Live, and 2010 with Kinect!

Are you curious on how to create effects such as page flips, zoom, panning, flipping, bouncing, and sliding by just using CSS3 transitions?

Then checkout liffect, at first you preview which effect you like, and once you select "generate", it will present you with the markup and styles that you can add to your project.

And yes all major browsers are supported including IE10 :) The web is beautiful, right?

If it is a good design that works, then everyone is going to do it. Eventually everything will end up in the same place. That is just how design goes. It is a general movement.

So congrats on the Facebook team who designed this, they did an awesome job removing the clutter! And congrats to the Google+, Twitter, Tumblr, etc design teams who influenced them. At the end of the day, everyone wins.

So happy with the team I mentored at NYU Abu Dhabi Hackathon this weekend. This event was to bring mentors from leading organizations (like Google, IBM, etc) and students from every continent of the world, to come together in one room to build something that would benefit that region in a social way.

We built The Karma Project. Think about it as a Kickstarter.com meets Meetup.com mashup. Where users can not just only fund a project with money, but their time as well.

My team consisted of two ladies and two men, they didn't know Node.JS, Backbone.JS, Passport.JS, JavaScript, or Twitter Bootstrap, but that didn't stop their passion in learning these new technologies. It was a challenge mentoring students with a totally new stack, but they did an extraordinary job delivering!

Scrubby - making programming (more) fun

A few months ago Bret Victor gave an excellent talk on Inventing on Principle (http://bit.ly/WZ7yU3) in which he also introduced his concept of a new kind of development IDE that would allow you to instantly experience how code changes affect the output. 

The interaction and experimentation potential behind this inspired a lot of people, amongst them +Jeremy Apthorp who wrote Scrubby.

Scrubby (http://bit.ly/TmLY5R) is a JavaScript library that allows you to manipulate literal values in posted code snippets and immediately see how that affects what happens in the browser. Find a number, drag it left/right with your mouse and watch the magic happen.

The very first thing I did when I forked JSLint source code was to write as many tests as I possibly could without getting depressed and killing myself. However, JSLint's code was not very well documented so I had to do a lot of guess-work: I would write a test with what I thought the parser was doing and then adjust it based on resulting failures.

This talk, Therapeutic Refactoring, is very similar to how I work when I refactor parts of JSHint or fix bugs in any kind of projects. You can go a long way with small, incremental improvements and tests (+ static analysis in my case) to back you up.

The talk is very good and only 30 minutes long so go watch it.

P.S. During my first phone call with +Dave Camp regarding my potential gig at Mozilla he asked if I was more of a starter or a bug fixer. I answered: refactorer.

Just released Extended Share for Google+ 4.0, and it is back!
Just got accepted back into the Web Store Gallery

With this update, it adds support for +Dalton Caldwell's app.net, so it now has 21 networks that you can share to instead of just Google+. Including Facebook, Twitter, and Pinterest! Other small bug fixes were deployed as well and it supports the new extension security guidelines (manifest 2)

This Chrome extension was the first extension made for Google+, it had grew to 120K users, but then it was pulled out http://goo.gl/V0h2m :( Even though it now has 120 users, I brought it back to life on my train ride back home :)

One of the worst things in life is when the father buries their own child.

Oh God, help these souls. What are the world super powers and arab countries doing right now? The answer to that simple question, is absolutely nothing. Every day the world watches, a dozen more children buried. This is ridiculous, they have been oppressed for 60 years, kicked out of their homes, massacred, and now this.

Edit: It is quite funny how this post was on the "Whats Hot" list and quickly removed right after a few minutes.

Introducing our silly Node.js Hackathon idea, GitLoved!

We just finished with our 48 hour Node.JS Hackathon. As usual it is open sourced on GitHub! Yes, the whole site is free :) Warning, it is ugly code which was done in two days! Please show your support and help vote by clicking on the heart on the top left http://gitloved.com

We decided to code a geeky social network site, which was quite funny :) Called gitloved. It was originally supposed to be a dating site, but turned quickly into a personality driven social network. It currently plugs GitHub, Facebook, and Instagram (Sorry, there is no API for Google+ that could help us), and hopefully more in the future :) 

 It has bugs, and not all features were done, and we cannot deploy till the end of the week :) The concept is there, so I hope you guys and girls like it.

The new Apple store that opened today in Palo Alto California is a beauty of its own. All glass between two buildings. It reminded me of the movie Up from Pixar.

When you are inside, the ceilings are like three to four stories tall, and you get to hear echos coming from above.

Nicely engineered store, if you are in the area check it out.

Skype for Windows 8 is ridiculously amazing! I just downloaded it for the very first time last night and the whole metro UX is stunning! It is fast, extremely beautiful, and surprisingly easy to use. My only feature request is integrating the search charm to it!

Google releases Search for Windows 8, and it is really good!

I was searching the Windows 8 store, and I found Google Search app on it. So far, it looks beautiful, the animations, the voice control (it has Google Now baked in). When you search for something, it won't leave the Google experience in a separate page and it keeps track of your history. Pretty good for research.

Take a look at the screenshots at the link below, they have done a nice job, it is made using HTML5 too!

I would love to see more Windows 8 Google apps!

High Definition Imagery in Bing Maps is absolutely stunning! Look how beautiful Manhattan is from above. It is amazing what today's technology brings to the table. I wonder what the future, 10 years from now, has in store for us.
