A couple weeks ago, Google Giving launched the Global Impact Challenge in the U.K., inviting British non-profits to tell us how they would change the world using technology. Today, the 10 finalists are in. Visit g.co/impactchallenge to see the finalists and help determine which non-profit will receive a £500,000 Fan Favorite Global Impact Award. Three additional nonprofits will be picked to receive Global Impact Awards on June 3 by a judging panel that includes Sir Richard Branson, Sir Tim Berners-Lee, Jilly Forster and our own Matt Brittin and Jacquelline Fuller.

If you’re seeing local search results for a different place than where you're located, it’s easy to update your location by heading to google.com/preferences. For example, if you just moved from Seattle to San Francisco and you're still getting results for Pike Place when you search for farmers markets, update your location to be San Francisco. On the Search Settings page, click on Location and enter your current street address, zip code, city, state or country. Be sure to click Save! Try it here: http://g.co/xkzu

There’s an easy way to narrow your results by country. Let’s say you want to search for [hockey] and only want results from Canada. Type [hockey] on Canada’s Google page (google.ca). On the search results page, just click on the Search tools button, click Web and select Pages from Canada. Pretty easy, eh?

Take a quick break from #io13 to enjoy these two doodles, which ran today in Russia and the U.K.
For Russian artist Viktor Vasnetsov, we have a tribute to one of his famous works, Alyonushka, showing a scene from a European fairy tale you may be familiar with—"Brother and Sister" (it's one the Brothers Grimm included in their collection).
Then in the U.K., something completely different for Frank Hornby, an inventor who created several popular engineering toys. He's perhaps best known for his Meccano construction sets (known as Erector Sets in the U.S.), which let you build working models of all kinds of things—trains, cranes and now doodles. :)

Tap Directions for the store of your choice and using Google Maps, you'll be on your way in no time!

When you're searching for stocks that meet specific criteria, try using Google Finance's robust Stock Screener (http://goo.gl/HPRiu). Begin by selecting one country from the 25+ available and then filter by exchanges, currencies and sectors. Next, select your criteria. The defaults are Market cap, P/E ratio, Div yield (%) and 52w price change (%) and under Add criteria, you'll find more than 50 additional options you can add to further narrow your search. If you ever need a refresher on these criteria after you've added them, just hover over the question mark next to the Criteria list and you'll see a short definition.

When you're on the go or traveling in another country, it's important to have useful translated phrases handy. Whether you want to ask, "Where is the closest hotel?" while you're in a new place or "How much is that?" while you're shopping in the local market -- you can now sync your favorite phrases across mobile and desktop with Phrasebook on Google Translate. With this new update to the Google Translate app on Android (http://goo.gl/eBW8W), you can take your phrases with you wherever you go.
To get started, select Phrasebook in the app menu of the Google Translate app for Android. (Notice that Phrasebook replaces the Favorites feature; your saved phrases are now part of your Phrasebook.) To sync your phrases, simply sign in to your Google Account by tapping the "Sign in" button at the top of your Phrasebook.

Working with the USGS, NASA and TIME, we're releasing more than a quarter-century of images of Earth taken from space, compiled for the first time into an interactive time-lapse experience so you can get a stunning perspective on the changes to the Earth’s surface over time.
These images were collected as part of an ongoing joint mission between the USGS and NASA called Landsat. Their satellites have been observing earth from space since the 1970s. Using Google Earth Engine technology, we sifted through 909 terabytes of data to make this historic archive of earth imagery available online.
Explore this global, zoomable time-lapse map as part of TIME's new Timelapse project: www.time.com/timelapse (a preview in GIF form is below).
