Use your storage how you need to with 30GB of unified storage across Drive and Gmail

Life gets a bit easier when your Google Apps products work well together. As that experience becomes seamless, having separate storage doesn’t make as much sense anymore. So over the coming weeks, you’ll get 30 GB of unified storage to use as you like between Drive and Gmail. Additionally, because of this storage change, Gmail inboxes for Google Apps customers are no longer limited to 25 GB -- any additional storage you purchase can be shared and used by Gmail.

Sheets in Drive, now with comment-only access

You can now give people comment-only access to your spreadsheets, just like you can with Google Docs and Slides. This is useful when you’re looking for feedback on a spreadsheet and would like to review comments from others before actually making any changes.

See how commenting works (http://goo.gl/HWX4l) and give the setting a try the next time you share a spreadsheet. Don't see it yet? Hang tight -- we're rolling it out over the next week.

If you do a lot of scheduling over email, it's now easier to create events directly from your +Gmail. Starting today, dates and times within emails are lightly underlined: click them to schedule that conference call or lunch date without ever leaving Gmail.

When you click on one of these underlined dates, you’ll be able to preview your schedule for the day and change the title, date or time of the event.

Clicking “Add to Calendar” will do exactly that -- add the event to your calendar along with a link back to the original email.

This new feature is rolling out over the next week to Rapid Release domains with the English (US) language. We'll be adding other languages soon, so stay tuned.

We’ve helped Boston businesses go Google, from Costco to Johnny Cupcakes. And we also understand that Bostonians want to be connected, whether at work, home or on the go. The new WiFi network at South Station will help Bostonians get the most out of the web and make the most of their city.

Nine years ago, inspired by someone struggling to find emails in her inbox, +Gmail was born. It may not have launched as an enterprise product, but our first customers were ourselves -- Google employees. We quickly realized that Gmail had the potential to help people not just in their personal lives, but also at school and at work. So, unlike most toddlers, Gmail was shipped out to join the pro workforce at the ripe old age of two -- when we launched the precursor to Google Apps for Business: Gmail for your Domain.

Whether you use Gmail at home, school or work, the tools you use to communicate should evolve along with you. Thanks for all your feedback so far -- please keep it coming in year 10!

Quickoffice on your Android & iPhone is here!

One of the easiest ways to share old files and collaborate is to convert files to Google Docs, Sheets and Slides. But not everyone you work with has #gonegoogle yet. Starting today, Google Apps for Business can edit Microsoft Office files using Quickoffice on iPhone and Android devices. From Word to Excel to Powerpoint, you can make quick edits at the airport or from the back of a taxi and save and share everything in Google Drive.

Our last #gonegoogle tip of the week comes from Josh Gerber who is the owner of 1369 Coffeehouse, which has two locations in Cambridge:

We use Google Sites to publish schedules and phone lists, allowing our staff to make changes and manage their work schedule remotely.

Editor's note: Now that's what we call "anytime and anywhere!"

Since the #gonegoogle  tips have been popular this week, we thought we'd bring you another one today, this time from Tim Luckow of GHouse, another Boston-based company:

Transparency reigns supreme at GHouse: we’re dedicated to showing our artists what happens behind the scenes on the business side so they can focus on their music. Google Apps makes that transparency - and the vision I have for my business - possible.

The foundation of this clear communication sits in Google Sheets. We create, share and constantly update a spreadsheet for each of our artists that tracks performance, from the number of times their songs are live-streamed on certain sites to how many tickets they’re selling for upcoming shows. That way, the band can hop into the spreadsheet at any given time and know how much they can expect in royalties and sales.

Today's #gonegoogle tip comes from Michelle Jones, Director of Marketing for MyEnergy, a software startup based in Boston:

Google+ Hangouts are the easiest way to dress your coworkers like pirates while they present your company's 5-year financial plan.

Today's #gonegoogle  tip comes from Chris, General Manager of The Hotel Veritas, a hotel in Harvard Square:

If you keep all your documents on +Google Drive, you never lose anything and you'll always have access no matter where you go. We don't even keep hard copies anymore. And, on top of that, you can restrict the sharing settings on certain documents to make them as private or public as you'd like.

For the average football fan, game days mean fun, fried food, first downs, and field goals. But for the San Francisco 49ers Security team, game days mean running a smooth, safe operation behind the scenes, so their players, coaches and staff can focus on the game.

#gonegoogle tips from Boston businesses all week

Last week, we brought you live posts from the Home Plate to Home Run event hosted by the +Daily Grommet. We're still impressed by how all of the teams were using Google Apps to complete the challenge!

In honor of this event and all of the #gonegoogle  action in Boston, we'll be posting a series of tips & tricks from the Daily Grommet and other Boston businesses throughout the week.

First up, a tip from Kate McLeod, Discovery Director at the Daily Grommet:
"Everyone in our company uses Google Calendar. It’s helpful to be able to see the team’s availability all in one place! We also plan our editorial calendar in a Google spreadsheet, and we use it to anticipate and plan for the products we’re launching."

Stay tuned for a #gonegoogle  tip a day all week.
