The "Dove" commercial has re-surfaced how women have low self esteem with regards to how they look. This is something that really bothers me. To me, beautiful women are rarely pretty because of their eye color or body structure - they are confident, smart and interesting.
I'm always shocked flipping through fashion magazines how beauty is presented as skin deep in our culture. "Use this cream or wear that designer and you'll look good". Confident, interesting women shine through, while clothes and makeup are just the icing on the cake.

#MyFirstWheels was a daihatsu sirion, in this gold color. Drove it from 1999 till 2004. It was awesome and gas efficient, but it did sway in the wind if it was too strong :)

Parents - need some advice. My 18 month old started half days in daycare this week. Every time I dropped him off he was crying. As soon as I pick him up (1-2 hours later) he runs to me crying again and yelling "car car" (meaning "lets go now").
Any tips on how to get him adjusted?

The elections that took place in Israel today have left me somewhat hopeful: the central/peace camp has grown while the hawkish Likud party has shrunk.
Will Israel seize this historic opportunity to end the occupation of Palestinian territories and advance peace in the Middle East? Time will tell, but hey, one can dream :)

I'm really hoping that Palestine's bid at the UN for a nonmember state will be approved. The tragic loop of violence between Israel and Palestine must end - it doesn't matter who started it, both sides have made brave moves and grave mistakes. What matters now is that we end this conflict and let both nations live in peace, side by side.

Apparently, Romney / Ryan are against abortions, even in cases of rape and incest (Ryan was quoted saying that “the method of conception doesn’t change the definition of life.”). They are opposed to gay marriage. So no matter how they crunch the deficit numbers, and even if they offer me a 0% tax bracket, they will not have my vote.

"Girl with the pearl earring", which is one of my favorite paintings, is coming to the De Young museum in SF. In addition to Vermeer's masterpiece the exhibition will also include works by Frans Hals, Rachel Ruysch, and other golden age Dutch painters. Can't wait!
