As you know we are totally into statistics and graphs now we just made another one for you.

We visualised the profiles in our index with a publicly shown location (more than 4 million). Each of those profiles got a 2x2 sized pixel in white and each of those pixels is 10% transparent.

Then we mapped all of them on a blue background and now look, what you can see, without any borders. Since our 2x2 pixel are 10 % opaque you can see that the whiter places are the more populated once.

Feel free to reshare so as many people as possible are gonna see our Google+ World here.

With the following link you can update our Chrome Extension to the new version:

In which shared circles are you? A killer new feature by the CircleCount folks
We all have seen posts by users who are welcoming new followers and wondering who added them to a shared circle. Until now finding out who to thank for adding you to a circle was an interesting treasure hunt since Google + does not inform you when you are included in a shared circle.

The CircleCount folks are releasing a new very useful table that will inform you in which public circles you have been included. This will help folks that see suddenly increase in their number of followers understand who has included them in which circle and give them the opportunity of thanking them. It is also surprising us, but these are the numbers we have collected in our database and this is the result of ~15 million profiles in our index:

In this new version you will find information about the users also in their hovercards.
After the extension is updated, you can move the mouse over a name of a person or a page on Google+ and you will find some additional information there:

This makes it easier to see some key facts about the user without having to click on the name or the extension icon in the toolbar.

Europe calling: the old giant wakes up and calls on its peeps!
now that Europe shows up as the largest continent on G+ self awareness goes up and initiatives to get together flourish.
It all started this Monday with my request to post your country if you were European. I offered to circle the first 500 who would do so without any obligation to circle back. Result: we needed a part2 as we hit the 500 comments limit.

Google+ has long been the place to share and interact with video -- Whether it's using Hangouts with your friends or watching YouTube videos. Today we’re making video a bit more fun by letting you record and share videos of yourself using your webcam. To get started, click the video icon in the share box and choose Record Video. Once you've authorized Flash to access your camera, you can start recording. And once you're done, the video appears as an attachment to your post -- ready to share with your circles.

Adding funny text to photos

Adding a few words can turn a silly photo into a ROFL, or draw attention to what you find most interesting. Today we're rolling out a feature that makes it easier to add big, bold text on top of your photos.

To try it out, drop a photo into the sharebox on Google+, then click the "Add text" button underneath the photo. Type in something funny, then share and enjoy.

This feature will be rolling out over the next few days -- I hope you enjoy it! :) We'll be keeping our eyes on the stream for the funniest examples, so have fun! #funwithphotos #googleplusupdate

Did you ever wonder where your followers are from?
Starting today CircleCount.com helps you understand this better.

After you login to CircleCount.com you can click on “Your Follower Map” (http://www.circlecount.com/mymap/) and check it out.

You can directly click on one of the follower-pins on the map and see who is located there. You will find also some statistics about your followers on this page.

There are some limitations:
└─ We can (and want to) show only publicly visible followers. That’s an important privacy issue and there is no need to have private informations about these people on the server of CircleCount.com. It’s enough that these informations are on Google’s servers.

For those of you who develop things using the +Google Maps API

A few days ago I opened a repository on GitHub where I'll publish small add-on scripts (originally made for my own applications) of which I think they're worth sharing. Currently, the repo contains:

- The SimpleMarker class: an extremely lightweight marker class (in the DOM hierarchy it's a single div node) which is trimmed down to the basic needs of a marker and is easily customizable using CSS styles. It's currently used by extensions like +My Hangouts or my own Map My Circles extension.

- The DayNightOverlay: a custom overlay that - as the name might suggest - displays where it's currently day and night on earth. You can choose to set a specific date or use the current time for calculations. Furthermore you can customize the looks of the night area as it's drawn in... more »
