Eventually I'll decide how I want to use each major social network (Facebook, Google+, Twitter, and LinkedIn) but for now I only have time for one. Since almost everyone I know (and especially all my in-laws in Virginia) is on Facebook, that's the one I'm using for now.

Wienercize!

Just took the wiener dogs for a 40 minute / 1.2 mile walk around the neighborhood. That may not seem like an impressive pace, but keep in mind that their legs are only six inches long. They also wanted to stop and mark every mailbox post along the way as theirs.

"Come on, guys!" I pleaded. "You can't pee on EVERY post in the neighborhood -- leave some for the other dogs."

Meanwhile, I found our walk to be a surprisingly good upper-body workout for me. It's amazing how much resistance two recalcitrant 10-pound dogs can put up when they're not satisfied that they've sniffed something long enough. Who needs rubber exercise bands!

There are hundreds of people here. Neal's dad was a well -loved man.

The entire Concord Rescue Squad and Fire Department is here in uniform, with black bands across their badges. I joked around with the firefighters about them crossing their fingers that there won't be any fires this evening. :)

Why I'm in Virginia

+Neal Mason's father died of a heart attack Monday morning. :( It has been a shock to everyone because he was only 59 and seemed healthy.

Neal and I will be in Lynchburg indefinitely to help Neal's mother sort through the legal and financial stuff, including managing Neal's dad's business until Neal and his mom decide what to do with it for the long term.

Tell Me What Excitement Virginia Has To Offer!

+Neal Mason and I will be here for at least a couple of months (for reasons I will explain at a later, more appropriate time).

It appears that his hometown is located smack dab in the middle of the state, so I'm within reasonable roadtripping distance of anything in Virginia. Once I get the issue of my four-months-expired license (oops) cleared up, I'd like to get out and explore! While I've extensively road-tripped throughout the West Coast and Southwest, I have very little experience with the East Coast other than Manhattan, and I have very little experience with the South other than New Orleans. My prior visits to Lynchburg have been very short and mostly consumed by hanging out with the inlaws.
