There is a lot of confusion around this word, so let me break it down for you.  There is nothing wrong with the actual word, midget; it’s just a word to describe something that is very small, for example, Midget Carrots, Midget Car Racing, my ex-boyfriend is an emotional midget.  The word midget becomes offensive when it’s used to objectify a person of short stature, as in Midget Tossing, Midget Porn, Midget Rentals, where you can literally rent little people for parties and events.

Don't Like 21st Century Abstract Painting? Don't Look.

I got home from the studio and my husband asked if that was paint on my thumb. I took a look and said to myself, yep, I've acquired painter's hands. 

It started out as a crappy work day, ultimately sabotaged by those very hands dropping a freshly glazed board covered in the last of the reserves of the gray paint.

No problem! The will is strong even when the body is tired. I did what all artists do: cleaned up, carried on, and at the end of a rapidly improved day came home to revel in the first lilacs of the season.

Mmmmmmm. Lilacs.

I Have A Theory

Jerry Saltz posits one argument in favour of the shift of painting during the time of the Impressionists. My pet theory looks further afield, at the broader realm of 19th century visual art histories: the demons of photography were barking up the ass of these French painters.

It is known that both Degas and Monet frequently used photographic images as their source material.
