A cute story to start your Friday morning...

The other night my phone rang.  My son picked it up and brought it to me to answer.  Since he had the TV on I moved to another room to chat for a few minutes and then returned to editing photos after the call.

After a few minutes, my son came up to me and asked in a very matter of fact way, "Who is Timothy?"  I must of stared at him in a perplexed way, as he followed with "the man that called you".  

Smiling, I reminded him, Tim is our cousin.  My little man is looking out for his mom.  :D

This is a shot I took for the B&W 52 week project.  I was never happy with the shot as I couldn't get it straightened up the way I felt it should be.  Earlier this week the latest version of Lightroom 5 came out.  I wasn't planning on upgrading so soon, but the Spot Visualization and Upright tools managed to wrangle the upgrade fee out of my hands.  Those two tools are awesome.  

So here you go, the Salk in San Diego, CA taken on March 11, 2013.  

Moral of the story: Revisiting things from the past can be a good, but only if you are willing to put forth the effort, learn from your mistakes, and use the right tools to make a change for a better outcome.  Otherwise, you'll just keep getting the same unsatisfactory frustrating results.

Week 22: Technology

Architecture isn't my typical style of shooting, but I have come to appreciate architecture over the last year.  For the experience, I am thankful.  The technology and knowledge needed to build these giants is truly amazing.  I hope I did this some small justice.

Riding The Bus

Last weekend, my son and I took a short vacation to Chicago.  While we had a great time, no trip is without its interesting moments.  We had arrived in the city at 7AM and spend much of the day walking starting with Millennium Park, then the Willis tower, and finishing with Navy Pier.  Having extremely tired and sore feet, we decided to catch the bus to the train station, then on to our hotel. 

As we got settled, we noticed the bus driver and a passenger exchanging words rather heatedly.  While they kept the language PC, you could tell the driver wasn't happy that the passenger seemed to be just riding the bus around town.  The bus took off and everything seemed to calm down.   Until about two stops out, when the passenger with a nice rocket launcher tattoo hopped up and made an exaggerated wink into the mirror by the back doors.  He then sat back downand sta... more »

Are there really any Photoshop secrets?

We just completed the most incredible show with the author of the very first Photoshop book, +David Biedny  .  In the short time we had he shared with us a SECRET trick to unlock features of Photoshop Elements to make it have some of the powerful features of Photoshop!  As well he teaches some unbelievable techniques and demonstrates why he is so revered as a Photoshop Guru

+Jan Kabili Gives us a very useful Demonstration of using the filter bar to work with virtual copies, as always a very useful demo.

I know I will be reviewing this video again and again

Do you have a favorite place to print your photos? Typically I use MPIX, but was thinking of trying BayPhoto as they seem to have more framing options.

Hope everyone has a great weekend.  Mine starts bright and early tomorrow with a 7AM flight to Chicago.  Yeah!  Tonight it's the dreaded packing - moan, grumble, sigh, argh - I hate packing.

Since I'm not taking my laptop/tablet with me, I won't be around to comment on the   #p52bw13  photos until late sunday/Monday.  Can't wait to see what creative ideas you come up with for this week's theme.
