In our area (Washington State), we don't see a lot of heart worm cases.  My veterinarian has only seen a couple in 20 years and those dogs moved here with their families from another state.

But weather changes and migration can turn it into a problem, so we have to keep an eye on the news locally for cases of heartworm.  We use a natural flea & tick treatment that is also a mosquito repellent (I use it on myself too).

Our dogs have been around children, but only a handful of times.  I will only allow children to approach after they ask and after I tell them the basics (approach softly, let them smell your hand, don't pet their head, don't look them in the eye).

We don't let children pet Sydney at all, because she doesn't like it and just wants to sniff - they get a giggle when Sydney sniffs their leg or foot.

It's all about patience and education.  I'm curious what it's like for pit bull parents.

I post 3-4 days a week, leaving time for people to discover a post and leaving room to cover a story that comes up and I don't want to wait 60 days on.

An interesting product! Our neighbor has a dog who sometimes snaps the run he's on and goes on an adventure.  Worries the family for a day and then they find him.  This product would make finding him a lot easier and faster.

Interesting.  I just overheard a couple of ladies gossiping about a coworker.  I had no reaction to this emotionally - I used to feel annoyed or a little gleeful - what are they saying?  Now it's like listening to a radio; background noise.

I thought I'd mention it, because this is the first time I've noticed things I used to label as negative fail to have an impact.

What are your thoughts on pet cancer?  I truly believe it is partiall due to the food we feed our pets.  I've done so much reading on diet and nutrition lately and I find it interesting that even with a guideline, I still can't understand many dog food labels and it's disheartening to learn that full disclosure isn't required by pet food manufacturers.

What are your thoughts?

The worst thing I can do is head to an online forum to research dog health issues - by the time I was finished, my dogs tummies were darker than they really were (my imagination) and I had a call in to my vet.

They're fine!  But I learned a lot about black tummies!

I’m a corporate accountant, which gives me access to payroll.  Today, I ran a report and saw that everyone in my department received a raise except me.  Nice raises too.  I was pretty stunned, to say the least and I wanted to share how I handled the situation.

1.  I allowed myself to feel – sad, hurt, disappointed, and angry.  I took just a few moments to feel these things, because I’ve learned that when I try to paint a happy face on a turd, it doesn’t work.

2.  From my dark place, I started painting the picture of what I want – I want a raise, I want to feel appreciated at work, I want to feel secure in my position at work, I want the respect of my boss and teammates, I want to feel valued, I want clear communication, I want clarification – I could feel the dark clouds leaving me and immediately felt better.

We've been feeding our dogs raw in the morning for 2 weeks now and they love it.  This morning, they ate their food with excitement - they love the beef the most; Sydney likes hers mixed with a bit of ground turkey...

A freelance writer and author submitted an amazing story about her dog Coco.  I was scheduling it and went online to Google pictures of her dog (who doesn't have pictures of their fur baby online?) and that's how I found the duplicate article (with a few small changes): http://www.schnauzers-rule.com/eccentric-smart-and-simply-cute-coco.html

Someone told me that duplicate content isn't a big deal, because Google just gives credit to who posts the article first.  Someone else told me that when Google does an update, blogs with duplicate content can be swept up into the Naught List and lost page rank.

My guess is that this person wasn't aware of rules surrounding duplicate content, because I only see one article online (not loads like she's submitting it all over the place), but I thought I'd give you a heads up, because it was a great lesson for me.  Itdi... more »

What I love about this post is that it helps to educate dog parents about what to expect as their dogs get older.  I think the more information we have, the more people will be willing to adopt a senior.

When we first reviewed the Paws on Earth dog shampoo bars - I thought with three dirty dogs (in the Pacific NW) one bar would last a month.

Nearly two months later and we're still working on the first bar - we've barely made a dent in it and we have great smelling dogs!

I am so blown away by!   #CloudStar  sent me enough treats to donate to my favorite rescue group #MotleyZoo - I'm dropping the excess off tomorrow when we visit them at an adoption event where there will be puppies!!!!!

An article about ball possessiveness at the dog park...this is one of the many reasons we stopped going to the dog park.  Rodrigo loves to take all the balls and not all dogs are wiling to give them up.  We reached a point where if we saw someone arrive with a toy, we left.

In Washington State, killing a police dog carries the same penalty as killing an officer - because they're considered officers.  When I confirmed this with my boyfriend (Snohomish County Deputy) this evening, he became very serious, as if he were talking about a slain human officer.

For that emotion, I took him to dinner.

Here's a story that prompted a change to New York City laws to make it a felony to kill a police dog.
