a former advisor told me that when you are up for tenure, no one look at your teaching record nor your outreach record. its about how many grants and publications you get out. which sucks because i care about teaching and outreach... here´s an interesting perspective on why researchers in academia are pushed so hard to do research ($$$ for the institutions)
