Abortion doctor Gosnell found guilty of murder

+NBC10 Philadelphia : Philadelphia abortion doctor Kermit Gosnell was found guilty on three counts of first-degree murder on Monday.

The jury also found Gosnell guilty of involuntary manslaughter in the death of a former patient of his.

Prosecutors alleged that Gosnell delivered four different babies alive during abortion procedures before later killing them. First-degree murder convictions can result in death penalty sentences.

RICHARD GRENELL: I think the media's becoming the story, let's face it. CBS News President David Rhodes and ABC News President Ben Sherwood, both of them have siblings that not only work at the White House, that not only work for President Obama, but they work at the NSC on foreign policy issues directly related to Benghazi.

These images, and perhaps sixty more, were made in less than five minutes at the end of our session. From one expression to another Helene moved without being instructed, took me on an incredible voyage of human expression. Here was a stranger in front of her yet she yielded the fiercest of emotions, the most gentle of feelings.

The wind was blowing endlessly and bringing with it a cold breeze. Rather than making me feel hurried and pushing the session to its end, Helene allowed me to unload and load film without stress. When asked about the cold she smiled while she shivered, pulled up her shirt while waiting then pulled it down immediately as the camera was ready.

Our session began with images of her yoga experience, and then shifted to close images in my usual style. The background was the glorious sky and her hair blew wonderfully with the wind. She never did attempt to control her... more »

Please read this article.
Not only are the police 'forcibly relocating' the homeless, they are robbing them in the process by taking all their money they have on them, and then leaving them miles from Detroit, usually in the middle of the night...

That isn't a cop doing his job, that's a kidnapper/mugger isn't it?
Taking money from the homeless?!

From the Article:
"Sarah Mehta, ACLU of Michigan staff attorney, told Detroit's WWJ Newsradio 950 that the homeless were "being approached and harassed by police, not necessarily for anything they're doing, but just because of the way that they look. Often they're being dropped off late at night in neighborhoods that they don't know. Police often take any money they have out of their pockets and force them to walk back to Detroit, with no guarantee of any... more »

I know for the next few weeks, we're going to see nothing but the names of the people who planted the bombs all over the news.
Honestly, this man should get more coverage than them.
He died a hero. The others died as cowards.

'Without question, the most thorough and reliable record of the military court proceedings is being maintained not by any journalistic institution or nonprofit law center, but by self-funded, independent journalist Alexa O’Brien, who painstakingly transcribes each proceeding and posts it all to her website. She says never expected to take on such an important role, becoming a reference source for journalists covering the case and that she was simply motivated by her dissatisfaction with the existing coverage.

“It really bothered me that that there was so much information that was not in the public realm I didn’t have an answer to, to understand what was going on in this investigation and prosecution of Bradley Manning,” O’Brien explains.'

It is time to remove Facebook from your Android device!

Facebook is currently in the process of asking you to install a new update. This update gives Facebook the ability to install future updates on your device without notifying you about the install.

This update gives Facebook the ability to bypass the Google Play store, and its app verification services, and update your device over wi-fi without telling you a thing.

Why this is horrible

First, it means that Facebook can continue to update your device, and add features or abilities (like tracking you) that you would otherwise know nothing about. My guess is this is the precursor for sending you advertisements on your phone from Facebook Exchange, which happens to leverage Facebook partners to track every single address you visit on the Internet. There is no practical way for you to opto... more »

Maryland lawmakers vote to repeal death penalty

+The Baltimore Sun: The Maryland House of Delegates voted to repeal the state's death penalty, sending the measure to the governor for his signature.

Gov. Martin O'Malley sponsored the bill and has pushed for repeal since taking office. "Let's us to do the things that work to save lives," O'Malley said.

Maryland will become the 18th state to abolish the death penalty.

The US House of Representatives passed the CISPA bill yesterday.

CISPA is the equivalent to Big Brother on the Internet.

It's far worse than SOPA or PIPA. This bill would allow the government to spy on your activities, legally, in perpituity. If they make a mistake, or confuse you with someone else, you can take no legal action to defend yourself. From the bill's text:

"Private information may be shared nonwithstanding any other provision of law."

Quote from ACLU: ""Cispa goes too far for little reason," said Michelle Richardson, ACLU legislative counsel. "Cybersecurity does not have to mean abdication of Americans' online privacy. As we've seen repeatedly, once the government gets expansive national security authorities, there's no going back. We encourage the Senate to let this horrible bill fade... more »

Man has 75% of Skull Replaced!

Now this is just cool and amazing.  3D printing was used to replace 75% of a man’s skull!!

3D Printing - The technique used here was similar to a tissue engineering article I recently posted about (https://plus.google.com/u/0/114146479114949843175/posts/RvjmfiwN2or).  The patient had their head scanned and then that data used to produce a CAD (computer aided design) file.  This file was imported into a 3D printer, which then produced an implant layer-by-layer with the correct topology to match the patient’s skull!  This patient specific technology can dramatically improve implant fit and outcome.

PEKK  -  The material used for the printing was a thermoplastic, polyetherketoneketone (PEKK).  Thermoplastics are polymers that soften above a certain temperature but harden once cooled again.  This property allowsthis materi... more »

Valais Blacknose Sheep

Yes, they are real! This adorable breed of sheep originated in the Valais region of Switzerland. Oddly, both rams (males) and ewes (females) have horns. Their wool is considered too coarse for hand knitting, but can be used to make carpets or mattresses. Enjoy your dose of daily squee.

Autism Simulator Lets You Experience Sensory Overload

It won't ever completely put you in the shoes of someone with autism but even a tiny glimpse into that world might help more people understand why its so important to research it and empathize with those on the spectrum...

"Kay said the game was partly inspired by an excerpt from the documentary Inside Autism, which uses similar audio and video filters to convey the overwhelming experience of sensory overload. As the video's creator put it, "my brain loses its capability for cognition. It crashes like a computer." Kay said he "thought that it would be such a powerful experience from a first-person perspective and a good project to take on for a weekend.""

Lady: Do you smoke?
Man: Yes
Lady: How many packs a day?
Man: 3 packs
Lady: How much per pack
Man: €10.00
Lady: And how long have you been smoking?
Man: 15 years
Lady: So 1 pack cost €10.00 and you have 3 packs a day which puts your spending each month at €900. In one year, it would be
€10,800 correct?
Man: Correct
Lady: If in 1 year you spend €10,800 not accounting for inflation, the past 15 years puts your spending at €162,000 correct?
Man: Correct
Lady: Do you know that if you hadn't smoked, that money could have been put in a step-up interest savings account and after
accounting for compound interest for the past 15 years, you could have now bought a Ferrari?
Man: Do you smoke?
Lady: No
Man: Where's your fecking Ferrari then?

Disabled veteran asks for public support; service dog faces euthanasia for biting woman who beat him with metal pole
An Army Veteran with disabilities is asking for the public's help in saving his service dog, Dutch, from court-ordered euthanasia. After being punched, kicked, and hit with a metal pole for several minutes, Dutch bit his attacker and has now been accused of being a "vicious" dog.

Dutch is a 4-year-old American Allaunt, who is a registered service dog and an important part of Jeremy Aguilar's life. Dutch has never shown any aggressive behavior before or after the incident and is a certified AKC Canine Good Citizen.
