An Ambience of Abandonment...
My preferred surroundings. There's something so tranquilizing about an environment like this. The only sounds being the occasional water drop, the wind blowing through a broken window, or the crackling of debris underneath my boots. A bit ironic given the history of these institutions.

Cold Corridor
This facility first opened its doors to patients in 1876. The last few patients were moved out in 2008...just five years ago. It's impossible to walk through these halls and not reflect on what happened over the past century. If these walls could talk they'd have countless stories to tell.

Peanut butter...that's what it felt like I was walking through in this ward. The place was literally falling apart, but what was nice is it was all relatively natural...meaning I didn't notice signs of vandalism. Always a good thing!

Stachybotrys
After trudging through the oatmeal-like sludge that covered the hallways in this abandoned building, we came upon this room that was very much alive. The amount of black mold here was incredible. Even with respirator donned, I still felt a little short of breath.

He's been learning to eat little finger foods. This is him concentrating on picking up little puffs from his tray.

I wonder what he'll say to me when he learns how to talk and my camera's in his face all the time. Doesn't matter...he'll thank me later when we have all these memories frozen in time.

Warmth on an Icy Morning
One more from my chilly, early-morning Central Park photowalk a few weeks ago. This is taken from the beautiful Bow Bridge at sunrise.

I still grapple with halos now and again. I was able to tone this one down quite a bit, but still not where I need to be. Nonetheless, I liked this too much to scrap it.

Any suggestions (aside from not tonemapping) in taming the halo beast would be greatly appreciated.

I sat there staring at this reflection for a good long while after shooting this. As photographers, it's so easy to get wrapped up in getting our shot and not taking in what we're capturing. This beautiful reflection in Central Park's Lake demanded a little more than a quick shutter press.

Shining to the Sky
I had a chance to shoot the Tribute in Light yesterday from rooftop in Jersey City. It almost seemed as if everything stood still while I was up there. There were no loud noises...just calm and quiet as the lights reached up to the infinite sky.

Mini City
It's been a very busy end of summer for me. I haven't had much time at all for social media, or even shooting for that matter.

Last night I finally had a chance to process this shot I took of the hospital block (Cell Block Three) at the Eastern State Penitentiary in Philadelphia, PA.
