AKB48としての夢であった、東京ドーム公演とその次の日に
通常通り、劇場公演を行うということがこの夏に実現しそうです。

私の予想では８月の末の予定のような気もしますが、ＡＫＢとしては
これを区切りとしてしまうような計画では、その後のグループ活動にも
問題が出てしまうので、９月か１０月にさらに驚くような計画が発表される
と思います。

６月の総選挙、夏の東京ドーム、その後・・・・今年１年も目が
離せなくなります。

I visited Cherry Blossom Festival in my local town. There are beautiful eightfold cherry trees along the main street there. The weather was not perfect, but the rain didn't start to fall during the daytime, which was good. The town is famous for Sazae-san, which is one of the popular comic/cartoon in Japan. Machiko Hasegawa, the creator of the cartoon lived in the town in her later life.

日曜日、世田谷・桜新町の旧246で開かれた「さくらまつり」に行ってきました。通りの八重桜は満開。先日公開されたばかりのサザエさん一家の銅像も、人ごみの中で子どもたちの人気の的になっていました。

My son wasn't very happy with me today. I dragged him away from his friends for a little Sunday afternoon walk with the family (and a photo op, of course). He moaned and whined the whole time in the car. How long is this going to take? When will we back home? Why do I have to come, and so forth. When we got to destination, he barely wanted to get out of the car. I proceeded to set up my tripod and started to shoot. After a while, he finally came to see what I was doing. "Long exposure", I replied. "I really could use some help with the timer." I handed him the iPhone and he stopped the time for my photos. We worked together for a bit, and then I watched him skip some rocks in the lake. After about 20 minutes, I told him that now we'd be going back home. 1930 Ford Tudor Sedan (Air Filters)

+Scott Loftesness has the "making of" for this shot (http://goo.gl/ZQyLZ) albeit before I changed to this 24mm f/2.8 prime lens. (Nikon D3s ISO 800, 1/200 sec, f/8). Scott also has his own great shot of this taken with his iPhone. Hopefully we'll see that soon!

Testing a teleconverter

I got my hands on an old teleconverter for a very, reasonable price. I've been testing it out and so far have been relatively pleased with the results. I thought I'd throw up an image that I took with it and see what the masses think.

This is an uncropped shot of a Robin. The bird was about 30ft away. The teleconverter was hooked up to my telescope and including the 1.5x crop factor of the D7000 it gives it a total focal length of 1536mm. It was less than ideal conditions to use as the scope is an f6 without the teleconverter and the skies are overcast meaning I only had a shutter speed of 1/60th

Thank you to +The White House for organizing such a fantastic photowalk. White House photographers Sonya Hebert and Pete Souza joined us on the #WHPhotowalk to share their stories, tips, and advice. We started with a private tour of the White House gardens, Bo (the First Dog) walked out for a quick photo op, we watched the Obama motorcade drive by, then toured the Eisenhower Executive Office Building before sitting down to listen to Pete Souza talk us through a selection of his photos, and what lenses and settings he used for each photo. There have been some amazing photowalks, but this one will be very hard to beat. It was great meeting all the DC photogs and the White House staff, can't wait until the next photowalk!

☆泥かき班活動報告　2012年3月31日(土)☆
　樹徳高校生52名+教職員4名+リーダー(川田・金子・井田)

先週末にひき続き、ふたたび樹徳高校生の参加です。今回は、中高一貫コースの生徒さん29名と剣道部員さん23名が2台のバスに分乗しての出発です。
…が、往路の高速に事故による通行止めが発生し、一般道へ下りたら大渋滞、そこで2時間のロスがあり、南三陸町へ到着したのは9時半、急いで天王前の現場に移動しました。この日は、いつも私たちが利用している仮設のコンビニに程近いパチン...コ店での作業となりました。ここへ入ったボランティアは、おそらく私たちが第2陣だったと思われます。店内は、一角を残して、あとは、震災直後そのままの様相を呈していました。パチンコ台は大きく傾き、床には膝丈以上の土砂が堆積しています。天井は剥がれ、建物の外壁も打ち破られて辛うじてまだそこにぶら下がっているような状態で、津波がこの建物を丸呑みにしたことが想像されます。数班に分かれ、建物内から土砂を掻き出し、それを外に運んで、ゴミや瓦礫を分別したのち撤去するという段取りで作業を行いました。高校生の皆さん、行きのバスで「被災地の1日も早い復興のために、できることを一生懸命がんばりたい」と意気込みを述べていたその通りに、各々すぐに与えられた作業に取り掛かり、とても積極的に行動していました。しかし、どうも最近、毎週土曜日ばかり天候が崩れて困るのですが、この日もその例外ではなく、ちょうどお昼休みあたりから雨、しかも、強風に煽られての横殴りの雨。午後は、分別作業も建物内で行いました。もともと雨の予報があった... more »

Another orca-picture for #WildlifeWednesday +Mike Spinak - please note the cormorant totally oblivious to the predators next to him.
Reality is that the orcas are not really keen on hunting birds, they are difficult to get, not much body fat on them and with all the feathers probably hard to swallow - so not much danger for the cormorant.

River Painting on Canvas by Jill Saur

This 36"x36" acrylic on canvas, "Absolute Joy", was a commission for a new mountain top home a few hours north of Atlanta. The inspiration for this painting was a river flowing through the Smoky Mountain National Park.
