Very curious about the +ASUS ZenWatch. Everything I've seen suggests it's a very beautiful, functional square watch.

I thought I'd be keen on a round smartwatch, but the G Watch R looks really big, and there's a lot of mixed reviews about the Moto 360 right now, but I've read only good things about the offering from ASUS.

Obviously, more research is needed, but I might have found my eventual Gen. I smartwatch.

The +Big Android BBQ 5, or, Dreams Do Come True: Part II

Wow, where do I even begin? As I come down from what has easily been one of the most memorable and humbling experiences in my short life, (post-BBQ depression, I've seen it called), I've tried to also find the words to accurately express what this weekend meant to me.

It's hard to describe what this weekend was like, not only as a spectator (not often), but also as a little one-man operation trying to keep things going.

Some of you might remember a long post I wrote on my personal Google+ page (at +Joshua Muñoz) when my Indiegogo campaign was fairly funded about how I wouldn't have been able to get it had it not been for Google+, and that's absolutely true.

If anything, it feels like the Big Android BBQ was an extension of that, or the next iteration of that, orso... more »

Don't care about Apple. More interested in what tablet to get.

So, with an +NVIDIA 780 Ti in the desktop, I'm liking the idea of the NVIDIA Shield Tablet for the GameStream convenience.

There's only a 16GB WiFi version out, and I told myself the next tablet I'd buy would have LTE in it so I could get data on a whim (and to use it as a mobile payments processor with Square for +Android Etch), but there seems to be a mad delay on the LTE version.

My question now becomes this: Is it worth just pulling the trigger on the WiFi only, putting in a larger microSD, and using my phone to hotspot if I'm accepting mobile payments? Or is it worth waiting for the LTE version?

I know there's obviously a cost difference involved, but is the higher cost worth the added LTE radio? Does anyone have experience with this? Or is it just smarter to use my... more »

I feel like I've been cutting onions.

If anything, it feels like the Big Android BBQ was an extension of that, or the next iteration of that, or something. Am I not making sense? Let me backtrack.

Last November, when I had the dream of buying a laser engraving machine and starting Android Etch, I didn't even know if that would be possible. Before that, back in 2011 when I initially had the idea, I was going etched glasses by hand at the rate of maybe one or two a night.

The room for error was high, it made my hands hurt, I was a poor college student, it was a mess. Still, when I posted my first picture of an Android-branded pint glass, I remember the small pang of hope when people seemed interested in it. Because of that, I held the dream of making Android Etch a reality near and dear to my heart.

When I was asked to do glasses for the early bird registrants and ticket package buyers, I was floored. Little ol' me, doing glasses for something the size of the Big Android BBQ? Just being asked was humbling.

And I guess that's one of the things I keep circling back to, how humbled and grateful I am, not only for being able to go and sponsor an event like this, but also just the incredible amount of generosity and kindness I was shown from nearly every attendee I spoke to.

For those that don't know, I thought I could pull this thing off by myself, and I definitely couldn't. There were boxes upon boxes to move, a machine to move, five gallons of water, etc. I was silly for thinking I could do it alone.

Yet, when I asked, people answered the call to help, giving up their time and strength selflessly, to help this one guy with a laser machine try and succeed.

With that, many, many thanks are in order. If I forget you, please don't be offended! Know that I am unbelievably floored at how wonderful everyone was to me this past weekend.

To +Derek Ross, +Ara Wagoner, +Nick Clancy, +Josh Wilson, and anyone else I might have forgotten, thank you for helping me move equipment when I couldn't do it alone. Y'all were lifting and sweating when you didn't need to be, and I really appreciate it.

Also, thanks for being such an awesome roommate, +Derek Ross!

To +Scott Good (why is it not letting me tag you?), +April Good (same issue, boo!), +Carmen Mobberly, +David Price,  +Parag Patel, +Rob Watkins, +Michael M and anyone else who kept me company at the booth (+Derek Ross gets another shout here, as well!), thank!

To +Mikki Torres, +Martin Smythé,  +Corry Robb, +John Katzman and any of the other hard working volunteers and staff at the BBQ, thank you! Mad props to Corry and John for putting up with all of my emails asking them when I could get into the convention center on Friday morning.

To +Laurie DesAutels and +Kimberly Ann Graham for helping me promote the brand (along with any tags and shares you all have done!), thank you! Me and +Kimberly Ann Graham had a little spat online earlier, but I'm happy to say we're friends now!

To all my friends from the internet that I finally got to meet in person, which includes but isn't limited to +Jody B, +Lauren Ward, +Daniel Ward, +Aiman Farooq, +Jeffrey Young, +Keyan X, +Asher Simonds, +Cee-Jay Mabin, +John Bowdre, +Mychal Hix, +Joey Cohen, +Robert Warren, +Ken Auenson, and anyone else I've forgotten or can't tag, it was GREAT finally getting to meet you!

To +Ray Walters, for tirelessly working on making sure everyone was fed to their hearts content with delicious BBQ.

To +Chris Sewell and +Shen Ye, thank you for the awesome pictures!

To +Chet Haase, for being the largest single order at the BBQ! :)

And finally, this probably goes without saying, I have the utmost thanks for +Aaron Kasten. Without Aaron, all of this, sponsoring, Android Etch, the entire thing, would still be a dream.

I'm not sure when I met Aaron, or in what capacity, but I've always sort of known of him, and at some point, I started chatting with him online every now and again. Probably because of AndroidSWAG, I'd ask him a lot of business-related questions.

When I launched by Indiegogo campaign to get my laser, things weren't going well. I was probably only about 50% funded or so and I was starting to get nervous that it wasn't going to work out.

Cue Aaron changing my life.

He messages me and tells me he'd like to give my campaign a $1,000 'donation' from the Big Android BBQ on the grounds that I'd do 110 pint glasses for the actual event. With that single donation, I was within striking distance, and I went through with the campaign with the intention of buying (and financing) a laser machine.

I bought the machine, fulfilled my backer's orders, and waited. There was no explosion of sales, the clouds didn't open and angels come down, nothing. I continued to make payments on the machine out of my teacher paycheck.

A few months ago, Aaron messages me again and asks me if I can do a bigger order for the BBQ than originally intended. Instead of just a few pint glasses, now I was in charge of early bird pint glasses, shot glasses, and shot glasses for special ticket packages buyers.

Again, with that, my life was changed, since it was the first time since I'd started that I wasn't in the red.

Simply put, if there was no +Aaron Kasten, there would be no Android Etch. Aaron has supported me, backed me at every turn, and enabled me to try and make something of this, and without him, I wouldn't be writing this message right now.

So, Aaron, thank you, for everything. I can't put into words how much your friendship and support has meant and continues to mean to me. I am truly, truly indebted to you.

Sorry for the length and the excessive sappiness, everyone, but I've been waiting since I got back on Sunday to say all of this.

As I finish writing this with a small lump in my throat, I hope you'll all stay in touch and that we can see each other again next year.

If you can help me get the word out, I'd love for everyone I interacted with to see this post, and I've got a limited audience here (~360), so any and all shares are appreciated.

Till next year, friends.

Hangouts, SMS, and Google Voice - Hangouts Desktop Extension Edition

So it looks like I'm all merged/migrated/fused into one glorious messaging app (which is neat), but I thought all of my different messages would also now show up as part of my Hangouts online.

I'm definitely seeing Google Voice SMS's in Hangouts (online and on the desktop extension), but none of my actual SMS's (from my carrier number) are showing up. Should they be?

Per the usual, anyone's expertise is appreciated, especially as we work through this confusing, harrowing time in Android messaging. :)

Gonna give these +Intel SSDs a try.

+Renaud Lepage, you'd be proud of me. Silly me, buying a 120GB SSD back in the day, and now it's full. Clone the OS/drive over to this one, and now I'll have a 120GB SSD for all of my Adobe CS 5.5 programs + whatever else I use regularly.

Looks like they're one of the leaders on price-per-gig and quality, so I'm hoping it turns out to be a nice investment.

Anyone here use two +NVIDIA cards in SLI?

I've got two 780 Ti's in SLI with a bridge, but in my GeForce settings, I only get 'Configure surround, PhysX' and no SLI options.

Uninstalled/reinstalled drivers, nothing. Always frustrating when trying to get an SLI/CrossFire thing to work, especially when it's supposed to be simple.

Any advice?

Very curious about the +ASUS ZenWatch. Everything I've seen suggests it's a very beautiful, functional square watch.

I thought I'd be keen on a round smartwatch, but the G Watch R looks really big, and there's a lot of mixed reviews about the Moto 360 right now, but I've read only good things about the offering from ASUS.

Obviously, more research is needed, but I might have found my eventual Gen. I smartwatch.

Reports of +Android Etch's death have been greatly exaggerated.

Man, where have we been?

That's a really great question. All has been quiet on this front a long time, and for that, I want to apologize. (Sort of.)

Like most of you know, a while back, Android Etch did a big project that ended up shorting out the laser tube. I didn't have enough funds to get a new laser tube right then (the laser broke about 850 work hours early), so I kicked around a crowdfunding campaign to try and raise the money.

Some generous people donated some, but I could have done more to try and push it, so while it did help offset some of the cost of a new laser tube, it didn't completely fund it. Still, no worries!

While I looked for more avenues to try and raise the money, time wore on, and before I knew it, the school year was starting. (Teaching is my full-time gig.)

I ended up deciding to just eat the remainder out of my regular paycheck to get things going again, and now I'm just waiting for the tube to arrive.

All of that being said, I'm happy to exclaim that Android Etch will be at the +Big Android BBQ on October 17th, and if you look at the attached picture, the AE logo is even smack dab in the middle of all of the sponsors. :D

As soon as the tube comes in, I'll start working on my order for +Aaron Kasten and the BABBQ, and also be taking orders again on the website!

To commemorate the occasion, a coupon code/discount is underway (stay tuned for that!), and I'll also be offering free shipping for those who want to pick up their orders locally at the Big Android BBQ.

In short, Android Etch is definitely still here, and I'm happy to be back in the game again (almost!).

Anyway, just thought I'd fill everyone in. Hope to hear from you soon!___Reports of +Android Etch's death have been greatly exaggerated.

Calls, pictures, and texts in a post-Hangouts+Voice world.

Now that some people have had the opportunity to migrate Google Voice over to Hangouts, is this how the interface looks when you're sending a message?

I've installed Hangouts Dialer and upgraded to the new Hangouts, but it hasn't given me the option to migrate yet, and I'm curious about a few things.

1. If I use Hangouts Dialer to make a call from my Google Voice number, it eats into my data, right?
2. If I'm using an app like Voice Choice to automatically send some calls through GV and some through my regular number, is it possible to continue using that instead of the Hangouts Dialer/data option?
3. Do I have to turn off notifications for GV, since messages will be coming into Hangouts once I've migrated? Or does Android handle all of that by itself, like it does with... more »

Is this how Google Voice will eventually be integrated into Hangouts? I hope so, because I use both numbers, and this seems like the next logical step, after Hangouts took over SMS.___Calls, pictures, and texts in a post-Hangouts+Voice world.

(I might not know enough about it to make an educated guess yet.)

Any experience those who have migrated can share would be great!

+NVIDIA Shield Tablet + Shield Controller + GameStream/+Steam In-Home Streaming Question

If I use GameStream/In-Home Streaming from my PC to my Shield Tablet, do I use the Shield Controller to control that?

Currently, I had to have a BT (PS4) controller hooked up to my PC, and it would control the PC, which was then streamed to the TV.

How does that work? I'd think if it was simply streaming from the computer, I'd still have to have the controller controlling the game on the PC, since it's only being streamed, but I don't know.

+NVIDIA, if you could weigh in, I'd appreciate it!

In case you missed it, wherein I spill my guts and weep about how amazing the Android community is, how +Aaron Kasten and the +Big Android BBQ have changed my life, and how I feel like +Android Etch finally feels like it could have some legitimacy.

My cup runneth over, y'all.

Introducing TapPath for Android

TapPath allows you to customize how clicking a web link in a 3rd party app behaves.

A single click will load your default browser as you're used to, but you can now specify different apps to use when double and triple tapping a link. I liken it somewhat to the extra functionality that can be gained by right-clicking links on a PC, but in a mobile-friendly way.

In my case, I have Link Bubble set as my default browser (no surprises there). A double tap sends a link to Chrome, and a triple tap will send the link to PushBullet. Which apps are loaded is of course entirely customizable by you.

Grab TapPath from the Play Store now:

+Motorola Mobility, when are you planning on fixing this so I can actually order a new Moto X from you?

I've had nothing but issues since pre-orders launched, which has kept me from being able to order.

Not gonna lie, the +Microsoft Band looks pretty cool.

I'm always interested in new, exciting fitness wearables, but the obvious problem becomes, is there room for a smartwatch and a wearable?

Probably not, but I really like how wide and far-reaching Microsoft is gunning on the health front. Plus, the band ain't too bad looking, either.

Question about Hangouts/Hangouts Dialer.

So, if I use Hangouts Dialer to call people from my Google Voice number, it uses data.

Does this count toward my data allotment or is AT&T exempting that kind of data usage from my total use?

Inquiring minds want to know.

Photoshop favor - lazyplus edition

Does anyone have the mad skillz enough to cut out just the score from this picture? I want to overlay it on top of this picture of the corps proper.

(Mad props to anyone who knows what any of this stuff is, too.)

Just got my +Motorola Mobility shipping delay email. Will get my phone on Oct. 17 at the latest, which means there's a chance I'll already have left for the +Big Android BBQ before it arrives.

What a bummer. I was hoping Motorola had worked through this with the first Moto X.

I miss writing.

Anyone have any leads on any (paid) tech writing gigs? Cause I really need to revisit that part of my life.

...and I'd like to see if I can make a career out of it, eventually.
