Despite the Bug....
... I keep uploading pictures to Google+ causing a huge mess with my albums but so what.
I don't think my bug (is a fly a bug?) will help the +Google+ Photos team to fix their (Photo Album Upload) bug but as long as my bug doesn't cause another bug, it shouldn't hurt, right?

Google+ Picture View Count - Where have you gone?
A feature lots of people talked about and a quite interesting statistics has apparently disappeared.
Google used to display the number of views for each of you uploaded photos on the picture detail page when you clicked a share image but after last weeks upgrade, that number vanished.
I really hope Google hasn't lost that piece of code somewhere but if they have, I'm sure Google Glass will help them find it again.
Google: "Please, give us our numbers back!"

My personal Checklist for the new Google+
1. Disable 'What's hot and recommended" as it's full of animated GIF's that brought back memories of the old Flickr days
-> https://plus.google.com/explore -> click the settings icon and disable "Show Posts in home stream".
2. Disable "Auto Enhance" for uploaded photographs. This might be useful for some people who bulk upload their mobile-phone pictures but I'm spending quite some time on post-processing my work and I don't want Jack Nicholson to look like he is using the same skin cream as Beyonce.
-> Go to https://www.google.com/settings/u/1/plus - In the Photo section remark "Automatically enhance new photos".
3. Once all the GIF's are gone, enjoy the new beautiful design. I absolutely love the new multi column view. Great stuff.

Branches Are A Photographer's Best Friend
Actually, that's not true. You should even avoid branches when they stick from trees into the frame of your composition but in the water, they're your best friend, especially for long exposures like this 4 minute photograph...

The new Google+ - WOW!!!
Watching the Google I/O Keynote right now and what I saw so far blew me away: Google I/O 2013: Keynote
Besides the design update, the one thing that sounds mind-blowing - at least in the video - is the automatic hashtag function that analyses pictures and adds hashtags like #eiffeltower in it if the Eiffel Tower is in the picture without mentioning it anywhere in the post. I'm very eager to see how this feature works in reality...

It's Alive!!!
Well, it wasn't really ever dead but kind of sleeping away.
I updated my blog to +Squarespace 6 last night and I have to admit that it went really smoothly. I was always afraid of loosing my old blog entries or that the URL of those blog posts would change but everything is still where it used to be - at least on the outside.
If only Google would let us post pictures of shared blog posts in the same large size than when sharing those photographs directly on Google+.

Splash Forward
I've tested around with many different shutter speeds to capture movement in crashing waves. I like the mix between freezing the moment but still showing some movement and 1/3 to 1/4 second exposures seem to do the best job for that result.
What is your experience?

The Forum Shops at Cesar's Palace
One of the coolest places in Vegas. I haven't been in any of the many shops but just admired the beautiful architecture and kept shooting without anybody bothering me.
I wish I had my 17mm T/S lens with me that day to create some crazy vertical and horizontal panos.

My follower count was pretty much stalled at +/-10 until 3 weeks ago. I suddenly gained 200 to 300 new followers each day every since and I have no idea why.
I couldn't find a good explanation so I'm asking you, if you started following me during the last 3 weeks, how did you find me?

I'm going to Vegas every 10 years:
First in 1993, then in 2003 and now in 2013 - it's a coincidence but I think I couldn't take Vegas more often than every 10 years, although photographing it is really cool.

Puddleizer Alley
I haven't posted many #puddleizer #iPhone pictures lately so here is an older, unpublished one from last year.
The puddle that I found there was actually really, really tiny but you can make it look large by going down to the ground. The iPhone was resting on my finger which was in the water -> that low!

I Saber -Striped my dog
Some time ago, I ordered two saberstrips (http://saberstrip.com) but haven
t used them a lot.
I found some time this evening and convinced my dog to model for me to test out different lighting setups. This is just one speedlite in a #saberstrip set to 1/8 power on camera right, slightly behind the subject.
I have to admit that this little tube creates some darn nice light... agree?

Tampa at night
I shot this from my hotel room in Tampa, FL through the window during +Scott Kelby's awesome Professional Ice Hockey Photography workshop weekend. If you ever have the chance of attending one of Scott's workshop's do it - it was absolutely awesome and Scott is just a great, down-to-earth guy.
I'm back in Switzerland now and will be shooting tonight's (hopefully) last Playoff semi-final between EV Zug and SC Bern.

I never showed him how to use an iPad but at the age of 2 1/2 he can unlock the screen, he knows which application to start to use the camera and of course he knows how to take pictures with it.
Oh and btw, the iPad was also capable of lighting this portrait.

Zabriskie Point Sunrise - as wide as it gets
I hesitated posting very wide panos on Google+ in the past due to the 2048 pixel limitation. Now that Google has upsized the maximum picture size to what seems like15,000 pixels, it might make more sense. I don't know the exact limitation but the original size of this pano is over 20,000 pixel and it wouldn't accept it so I shrunk it down to 15k which worked.
In order to zoom into the picture you have to click on it to get the full-page view and then scroll down with your mouse/trackpad.

Hockey Rules!
Just got back from an awesome Ice Hockey workshop by +Scott Kelby and Scott Audette (who still doesn't have a G+ account) in Tampa, FL. I had a blast shooting a NHL hockey game on Saturday plus a great sports portrait session today. A big thank also to +Brad Moore and +Pete Collins who were running around getting lens replacements for those who smashed their lenses... :)

Update from the Lightning game with our Hockey Photo Workshop:
We weren't exaggerating with all our warnings about shooting at ice level. Luckily, he's ok. The lens, not so much (but he totally had a great attitude about it).
An incredibly fun night! Today we're actually out on the ice doing a remote camera class (remote inside the goal) and player portraits on the ice. Whoo hoo! #kickice

Angry Bird
I just realized that I didn't have an 'Animals' album in my G+ Galleries so here it is.
I did some more testing with the 300mm f/2.8 loaner and screwed my 1.4 extender on it to go bird hunting.
I really liked that angry fellow who in contrary didn't seem to like me that much. I decided not to ask him to sign a model release.

What a nice piece of glass...
I just got my Canon 300mm f/2.8 IS II lens a day early from the good guys at +LensProToGo which I'm renting for my upcoming +Scott Kelby Ice Hockey workshop in Tampa, FL (http://kelbytraining.com/hockey) and boy I love that piece of glass.
I shot with the Mark I version before but the newer lens is just mind blowing. It's about 200 grams lighter than its predecessor and the new Image Stabilizer is really impressive. I shot portraits at 1/60 with no issues at all.
It was already quite dark when I shot the one below at 1/160 and ISO 6400.
Looking forward to some great hockey action in Tampa next weekend. Unfortunately, that glass will go back to +LensProToGo on Monday.... :(

A Smooth Rock
Whenever I think of Alcatraz, I have this rocky island, surrounded by the cold, rough waters of the San Francisco Bay in mind.
I wanted to show the smooth side of the Rock so I opted for a past sunset, long exposure and very colorful version.
