Are you sitting down? This has just blown me away. The new Google+ Photos section in the app is astounding.

1. Built-in photo editing
2. People tagging
3. Image search
4. Highlights - albums that take the best photos from an album and show them off.
5. A single button to auto enhance photos with a before and after button and option to undo.
6. Rename and delete albums
7. Edit profile and cover photo

Image search has me shaking in disbelief! All the example screenshots are from family photos I have uploaded, none of them have added tags and they are all standard from-camera filenames.

A test of Google's new Auto Awesome HDR feature. All I did was upload 3 unedited bracketed photos and Google did the rest.

Getting started with #AutoEnhance  and #AutoAwesome  

Many of you have been asking, "How do I apply Auto Enhance and Auto Awesome to my photos?" The good news is, all you have to do is upload some new pictures, and we'll do both automatically: 

- To review Google's automatic enhancements, just open a newly-uploaded photo in the desktop lightbox
- Click the new "Enhanced" button to toggle between your original, and Google's enhancements
- If you like the changes, keep them. Otherwise, just uncheck "Auto Enhance" from the More menu
- You can also turn off the feature completely in settings: google.com/settings/plus

It's the same story with Auto Awesome. Just upload some new pics, and we'll get to work:

New G+ Photos rolling out today!!!

Not too long ago, I met a woman through a user study who moved over from Taiwan with her 2 daughters. She’s been documenting their lives and sharing pictures out to friends and family. I asked her if she felt that her photos were safe. She responded, “Very much so! All 10,000+ of my photos are on this laptop!” - which she told me earlier was purchased 9 years ago when she first arrived in the States.

This of course alarmed me! While most consumers have their email, music library etc. stored in the cloud, what’s evergreen - your lifetime's worth of memories - are stranded on cameras, phones and computers.

We think that storing your photos safely in the cloud is a great starting point. But we also think that a photo service in the cloud can be much much more. Our goal is to help you make and share great photos in less time, allthe tim... more »

I love baby bok choy. I especially love it at Tai Pan restaurant in Palo Alto. The chef trims away the older leaves and makes each bok choy almost the same size. Yum.

I am really picky about Japanese restaurants. Normally, I would never go to a place that is not run by Japanese owners. But recently we tried a new place in Mountain View with Chinese owners. I must admit that I am loving the Chinese adaptation of katsu-don. It is loaded with Chinese cabbage and bean sprouts for a more balanced meal.

To The Heavens || Beijing

This serene and empty view of The Temple of Heaven in Beijing was one of the trickiest locations I’ve ever had to shoot. It took me 2 visits to capture it but thankfully my perseverance (and rigid stubbornness) paid off.

I’ve always had a secret weapon for minimizing crowds and capturing my scenes free and clear of people. It may seem simple but all it takes is getting up early. I know it sucks getting up before the sun rises but it assures that you arrive at the location way before the tour busses do. It’s worked in every country I’ve visited except for China. All I have to say is, HOLY SHIT can those people get up early.

At the Temple Of Heaven Park, the tour busses were rolling in at 6:30am. I’ve never seen anything quite like it. In Europe for example, the earliest I’ve seen a tour bus show up is 8:00am, which -- in mostcases -- is... more »

Downloading all photos from an event

One of my favorite parts about Google+ Events is how it puts everyone's event photos into a single, shared album. Many of you have asked for the option to download all of these photos, all at once, and today we're excited to launch precisely this feature!

Simply visit your event page on the desktop, click 'Actions,' then click 'Download event photos.' And voila. Let us know what you think in the comments.

In The Midst of Face Rock

I spent the better part of today unwinding from a whirlwind two-day shoot on the Oregon coast in the picturesque town of Bandon with my very good bud, +Matt Kloskowski. During the short trip, we also met up with the wonderful +Patricia Davidson and +Cameron Siguenza. After taking stock of the locations we shot at, the tally came in that we visited the Bandon Ocean Wayside four times, two sunrises and two sunsets. I'll save the story I took away from that fact for another post but in the meantime, I want to share what has to be my favorite image from the entire trip... and it also happens to be the very last shot I took before packing the camera up and leaving Bandon for Portland. Always go out on a high note, right?
