The thing about software patents is that users need to be familiar with the programs they are working with. Just like in the real world... the play button, the power button, the telephone symbol.... these are things which represent tasks.

Green means go. Red means stop. The big button is important. A device which maximizes viewing space and has a rectangular screen will be a rectangle. When you hit the edge of something, it stops or bounces off it. To make something bigger, you stretch it out.

Things like the above should never be patentable. Now, if a company wants to patent a system like Siri, that's dooable. However, Siri is a ripoff of the voice recognition system on the Motorola RAZR from 10 years ago.

We need patent reform. Icons and shapes should not be patentable.

Samsung Pays Apple $1 Billion Sending 30 Trucks Full of 5 Cents Coins

This morning more than 30 trucks filled with 5-cent coins arrived at Apple’s headquarters in California. Initially,  the security company that protects the facility said the trucks were in the wrong place, but minutes later, Tim Cook (Apple CEO) received a call from Samsung CEO explaining that  they will pay $1 billion dollars for the fine recently ruled against the South Korean company in this way.

the funny part is that the signed document does not specify a single payment method, so Samsung is entitled to send the creators of the iPhone their billion dollars in the way they deem best. 

This dirty but genius geek troll play is a new headache to Apple executives as they will need to put in long hours counting all that money, to check if it is all there and to try to deposit it crossing fingers tohope... more »

Sunken camera owner has been found!! (Thanks to Google+!)

A Google+ user named +Markus Thompson found a camera underwater while scuba diving near Vancouver. He discovered that pictures on the SD card were recoverable, even though the camera had been underwater for a year. So he used Google+ to track down the owner of the camera to return his photos.

After my post went viral on the What's Hot list, Markus discovered that the owner had not been found. I posted an update on the post, and said "So.... Let's FIND THE OWNER!"

Well, I'm happy to report that he has now been found, thanks to the Google+ Hive Mind!

Lytrokamera vaikuttaa jo melkein liian hyvältä ollakseen totta. Hetken jo pohdin, että pitäisikö tuota jo yrittää jollain konstilla tilata, mutta kun ohjelmistoja ei taida olla vielä tällä hetkellä olla kuin Maceille, lienee parempi odotella...

Mitenkähän hyvin tuo toimisi mikroskooppiin yhdistettynä, vai toimisiko ollenkaan?

Guide of how to use different kind of color profiles in Canon DSLR cameras. The difference is quite big when use is doing most of the adjustments in the post-processing since there is more material available for adjusting.

Example of how Cinestyle helps even with 550D http://vimeo.com/28428366 when user knows how to do color grading on the computer (yes, that's "extra step" for some but quite normal when doing video).

Probably same thing could be helpful for photographers also since there's more visual range to make adjustments to compared to normal color profiles available in the cameras.
