Yesterday marked my 60th week in a row (foursquare told me!) of going to the gym (usually more than once, these days I'm going 5 times a week). It feels awesome :-) About to head there now, today is my back session.

Each and every month, we look back and ask ourselves "how did we do with our user support efforts, did we make people happy?" and then we try and measure our progress and think about what to change for the month ahead.

In that spirit, here is the Happiness Report for December 2012, written by awesome Happiness Hero +Alyssa Aldersley.

Let us know if you have any questions about how we do support, or anything else :-)

I did a talk recently in London and some asked me "what is the lowest point you've had in the Buffer journey so far?". I thought that was a fantastic question.

Here's a blog post about one day in the Buffer journey which is perhaps the day with both the lowest point and also the highest point. It was a truly crazy day, and it taught me a lot. It's really just a story I wanted to share, and I hope you enjoy it.

Hi everyone! I hope you're having a great weekend and winding down nicely for Christmas :)

Here's a weekend article for you to check out which I hope might be useful for you in the New Year. It's all about one key thing I learned with writing emails: the power of being specific.

It has real email snippets from when we were doing our fundraising for Buffer. I hope it's useful, let me know your thoughts or questions!

One of the hardest things I've found as a startup founder so far is to move from being a "maker" to a "manager". The transition kicked in at around 5 people, and now that we're 7 I'm much more a "manager" than a "maker".

In the early days of Buffer, the primary task for me was to code. These days, that's something I do quite rarely. It wasn't a clear switch to drop the coding though, and that's what I'm discussing in my latest article: "The maker/manager transition phase".

I'd love your thoughts on this :)

Here's a new article from me, maybe something you could try this week: "The Anti-Todo List".

The Anti-Todo List is a really interesting concept, and one that's helped increase my feeling of productivity and fulfilment a lot. The idea is to keep two separate lists - one normal todo list, and another anti-todo list, where you list down everything you do during the day which is still useful work, but wasn't on your todo list. It's my lifeline when a lot of unexpected but useful and important tasks come up and I previously felt "what happened to my day?" and felt like I'd got nothing done. Now? I look at my Anti-Todo List.

I'd love your thoughts :)

New post: "What are your top 3 challenges?"

Everyone wants to help you, but I realised over time that to really take advantage of that, you need to take time to reflect on what your current key challenges are. That way, whenever you meet someone who can help, you can have them at the tip of your tongue to ask them. I've found that to be very powerful. Check out some more of my thoughts on this:

So +Leo Widrich and I decided to try something new. We're going to do a regular youtube channel where we discuss a single short topic each time related to startups, life, learning & happiness.

This is the first episode: What are the 3 things you focus on in life? All about the idea that you should only have 3 things you try to work on. We share how we came across the concept and we share what our own 3 things are. What are yours?

My latest article "Want to be successful? Be inconsistent" all about the myth that you need to be consistent and true to your word. I think you actually need to be very open, and change your mind a lot, in order to succeed.

When you begin a startup, nothing is validated. Your job is to go out there and test all the assumptions. Therefore, the choice is yours for what your startup will do. What I'd recommend, is to choose first to try and build something that would make you excited to jump out of bed each morning. Something that once you validate, if it works, would be really damn cool.

Here's a new article from me, hopefully it's some good weekend reading :-)

"The man who reads nothing at all is better educated than the man who reads nothing but newspapers." - Thomas Jefferson

Around 2 years ago I stopped reading and watching mainstream news. I don’t read a single newspaper, offline or online, and I don’t watch any TV at all. I've never felt better or been more productive. I wanted to expand and explain why I think it's so powerful to ignore mainstream news. Would love your thoughts! :-)

Hi everyone! Here's a new article from me for weekend reading: "Why context is so important".

I’ve had a few different experiences in the last couple of weeks which made me reach a big realisation. What I’ve discovered is that the context of any situation is very important.

In the article I share a key experience where I made a mistake by not knowing context for someone else's best next move, and I gave the wrong advice.

I think this is a really fascinating topic, and something we can perhaps all improve on. I'd love your thoughts! :)

I absolutely love this new article from +Leo Widrich. I've fallen into this trap too:

"[there is a] myth of being able to do one thing, that one thing, that will put you, your career or your startup to the next level. That one magic action or event, that will all of a sudden flick a switch and change things forever."

Do you ever have that thought, that a single thing can turn everything around? It's so tempting, it's so easy to think it, I did too.

Take a read at Leo's take, it is spot on and has great personal insights from times he believed the myth too.

Here's a new article from me: "6 things I do to be consistently happy"

One of the most important things I’ve learned during my startup journey so far is that I perform the best when I’m happy. It really does change everything. If I’m happy then I’m more productive when hacking code, I’m better at answering support, and I find it easier to stay focused.

I’ve found that there are a few key habits which, for me, act as great rituals for enabling me to be consistently happy. They also act as anchor activities to bring my happiness level back up quickly whenever I have a period where I’m not feeling 100%. So here are 6 of the things I do:

This new post by +Leo Widrich is, I think, one of the most powerful he's written.

The impact you can have if instead of having one person or just a department focused on "marketing", the whole team takes a new mindset and serendipitously does marketing continually through Twitter, blogging, and other means is quite astounding.

Be sure to check it out, he has shared some amazing insights and great examples:

One of the biggest things for me to overcome in order to start to have more success as a startup founder was a feeling that making money with a product was a myth.

"your taste is good enough that you can tell that what you're making is kind of a disappointment to you. A lot of people never get past that phase and a lot of people at that point, they quit. The thing I would like to say to you with all my heart is that most everybody I know who does interesting creative work, they went through a phase of years of this. The most important possible thing that you can do, is do a lot of work. Do a huge volume of work. It takes a while, it's going to take you a while, it's normal to take a while, and you just have to fight your way through that" - Ira Glass
