Rob Gordon38,275Entrepreneurs, Self-Employed & Small Business Owners.  SUPPLEMENTAL CIRCLE 3This is my third and final supplemental circle of the popular set of circles of the same name that I have published here since early in the history of Google+.  I have to retire this approach, because it has become circumvented by the new communities function which is a better tecnnology for this, but I promised a number of people I would include them in these circles, and I need to keep that promise.  This last supplemental circle is a grab bag of all different kinds of entrepreneurs - from influential industry leaders, to people running little struggling ventures, and everything in between.   If you want a little jolt of  of entrepreneurial energy then this circle would be a good place to start. There is no rhyme or reason to the selection - just people who caught my eye - there are some very smart birds in this one though so you may want to take a look.  If you really want to "entrepreneuralize" your stream go to our original set of shared circles and add those as you see fit. http://goo.gl/P0IrgUnfortunately, this method is simply no longer manageable or effective.  I am simply missing too many good people with this approach so with this last shared supplemental  this will no longer be maintained or updated, though I may continue to publish smaller, more specialized shared circles.   In a way, I am sad to see this go.  It is probably the most successful thing I have done on Google+ and I am rather proud of it.  I think it helped to make the entrepreneurs and small business owners on Google+ far more interconnected than they would have been otherwise, but all good things must come to an end. The good news is that these shared circles have been replaced with a community of the same name.  The "Entrepreneurs, Self-Employed & Small Business Community" has more than 8,000 members and is growing like mad.  More significantly, people are not just "posting stuff" - they are actively engaging in discussions, meeting each other personally. coming up with ideas and addressing any number of important small business issues.   In ny humble opinion, this is the best business community on Google+.  It is already being discussed on other social networks - Twitter, Linkedin, Facebook and blog posts - and we even got a mention in "Inc Magazine".  I believe that we in the small business community, even the most humble among us, could become far more powerful if we figure out ways to work together and use our massive brainpower to our mutual advantage.  We are going to continue to throw everything but the kitchen sink at this to make it happen.  If this is your thing, I hope you continue joining us.  This community can be found at this link: http://goo.gl/ejG9P  2013-02-11 22:57:081001616CC G+

LinkedIn hits 300 million, but I still wonder how many non-job seekers read their news feed on the site. Not to mention how annoying it is that you can't see someones post / stream like you can on Facebook or Twitter. Do you "believe in" LinkedIn like a marketer?

Google AdWords Tirade. So a client of ours - who shall remain nameless - gets a call from the "friendly" Google AdWords rep. They then "optimize" his account by adding many LOW QUALITY keywords. $415 dollars in 7 days later...  OOPS / no conversions - not one single conversion.  If Google AdWords calls to "optimize" your account, think about their conflict of interest: Google gets paid BY THE CLICK, and you get paid BY THE CONVERSION.  Those are NOT the same things.

I love Google+, really. But let's be honest, Google+, you're No. 2 waaaaay behind Facebook. I like you more than Twitter.  Definitely WAY more than Yelp. But you just emailed me this "Hot on Google+" list and some of it was, well, underwhelming and just plain weird.  So to my Google+ followers - check out "What's Hot on Google+" and ask yourself: does this make you more, or less likely, to consider Google+ your No. 1 social network.  What could Google+ do to give it that something SPECIAL that makes it compelling in a very crowded social media world?

Good news: ONLY 1/3 of online advertising clicks are fraud.  LOL. Wall Street Journal reports on the issue of bots and click fraud. In my humble experience, this is a problem not only on Google search and the (very messy) Display Network but elsewhere.  Do you think Google is doing enough on the click fraud probleml?

A Dislike Button on Facebook? There is the law of unintended consequences. Yelp comes along, and empowers the whiners and complainers of the world (along with many good things). Facebook redoes its interface. Read this comment string, and ponder the minds of the new consumer: empowered to HATE things on the Internet.  Is that good?  Bad? Yelp and SEO - always on my mind.  Makin' me feel old Yelp. Sounds like I'm a grandpappy looking to find a business.  These darn GPS's, Granny - help - ouch watch out for that pedrestrian! Yelp is updating its privacy settings to businesses can see user profiles. Here's a screenshot of the message I got.

Yelp + Yahoo? Yelp is apparently snuggling up to Yahoo, as it already snuggles up to Bing. If you notice, your Bing searches often pull Yelp results.  Plus Yelp shows up well on Google.  So if you are a local business, you need Yelp (whether you like Yelp or not).

What's good for the goose isn't necessarily good for the gander. Google and its shareholders are happy that the cost-per-click for product listing ads is up 80% from a year ago, and 11% for regular ads.  YIKES. Does anyone out there really like AdWords, or do we just use it because we have to? Foie gras anyone?

Shout out to +ManhattanBeachhomes (Greg Geilman / http://bit.ly/1fg7xk7), who taught me how to add annotations in Google Analytics. On any of your graphs, click on the 'add annotations' and you can add little notes-to-yourself that explain major events, such as changes to your Home Page, new content, etc. Neat way to keep track of changes.
