It's somewhat telling that one of the biggest announcements from BlackBerry Live is that the BlackBerry Messenger (BBM) app will soon be available for iOS and Android. It's telling because it's too little, too late, and nobody really cares. If that was the highlight of what BlackBerry has to offer, there isn't much hope for the mobile platform.

I guess my kids are just lazy slackers. While this girl is revolutionizing rechargeable battery tech, and another 17 year old girl won a hackathon with a Chrome extension that automatically strips out TV and movie spoilers from Twitter, and another teen developed Summly and sold it to Yahoo for $35 million, and Zach Kopplin is waging a war on behalf of logic and common sense to abolish creationism from science classes...my kids think waking up at 10am is "early", and spend the vast majority of their day gaming or watching really stupid things on the Internet.

Marissa Mayer--CEO of Yahoo--has a Tumblr page. She just used it to announce that she now owns all the Tumblr pages thanks to a $1.1 billion deal.

BlackBerry announced that it's BlackBerry Messenger (BBM) messaging service will soon be available for iOS and Android (smartphones only--not tablets).
It seems like a desperate gamble. It could strengthen the BlackBerry brand and win customers, or it could just give existing ones a smoother way to transition to a rival platform.
What do you think?

What is a Google+ post?
It's very simple for me: A G+ post is either a conversation or show and tell.
I use G+ heavily for private conversations with family and friends. And those are something else.
But when I post publicly, I'm starting a conversation or showing people something or both. But mostly it's about the conversation.
I use Friends+Me to automatically link to my Google+ posts from Twitter, Facebook and Linkedin. The link takes them back to the G+ post.
One prominent tech writer complained on Twitter that I referred to a story, but that instead of linking to the story from my Twitter post, I linked to the G+ post, which he considered an intermediate step requiring another click to see the story I mentioned in my tweet.
But I don't post in order to find stories for people to read. I'm not a news servic... more »

Sometimes I think people don't fully understand the concept of Liking or Following. I seem to get many more people who "Like" or +1 a post, or share a tweet than I get actual Likes or Followers. It's like people see the message from me, and say "Yeah--people should do that!" and share it with their extended social networks, but fail to actually follow through and Like or Follow me themselves.

Blackjack? Poker? Or, would you rather gamble with Google Docs?

Man, those Moors knew how to live.
I absolutely love Moorish architecture; the Moorer, the better.
We spent yesterday at Alhambra, which is the Spanish pronunciation for الحمراء. ; )
Originating as a crude fortress in 889, it was transformed into the spectacular fortress/palace/town that it is today starting in about 1333, first by Yusef I, the Sultan of Granada, then by subsequent Muslim rulers over the next century and a half (although the labor was done by Christian slaves).
The same year King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella's investment in Christopher Columbus paid off with the discovery of America (1492), they also conquered the rest of Spain from the Moorish rulers. When they got the chance to check out Alhambra, they were so blown away they moved in.
I was ready to do the same myself.
