I'm all for state/national sovereignty but when you're using the same currency it's time like this that a Federal Government and a mix of monetary and fiscal policy comes in handy. If only we can figure out a way around filibustering and gerrymandering we'll get our economy back to being the powerhouse it used to be.

High speed rail isn't just AN option. It's the ONLY option. But the congressional committee is right. Too long. Too expensive. Private investment will be mandatory. How do you price them in though? Easily.

1. Preferential, no bid, low cost, front loaded, long term land leases in stations and surrounding areas; parking structures and lots, inside stations and on platforms, for starters.

2. Station naming rights like stadiums. Grand Central Station? Penn Station? How about Xfinity Central Station? Or Starbuck's Station?

3. Also, by adding commercial cars for physical stores (think Brookstone, Barnes & Noble, chain restaurants and anything else you typically see in airports) and inventory, passengers can virtually shop from seatback terminals (and personnel can deliver merchandise seat side) or physically in the high speed storefronts if they like as well.... more »

Did you know that you can be super, SUPER rich and still be considered a small business? The reason super, SUPER rich "small business owners" report their corporate income on their personal returns is because corporate tax rates are higher than the personal ones. Please note that both presidential candidates want to lower corporate tax rates. Now these "small businesses" owned by the super, SUPER rich are considered "flow-through enterprises". Flow-through businesses also include large law partnerships and hedge funds. In fact, before it went public in 1999, Goldman Sachs was a flow-through business. Now research has show that 17% of workers in flow-through enterprises work at companies with more than 500 workers, according to Ernst & Young. That's hardly considered a small business in my opinion.

I'm sorry if you only "like" me for relationship and dating advice but considering this election is so near and so dear to my heart I don't mind risking professional gain for something I'm so passionate about. I also voted for McCain but I am voting for Obama this election for many reasons. 

First, for such a tremendous business man, Romney sure doesn't know how to add. It is mathematically impossible for Romney to cut tax rates across the board for businesses, capital gains and all Americans, increase military spending and lower the deficit. This is impossible in every way shape or form based on every single analysis. Romney finally says how he'll offset tax cuts ... but his math still doesn't add up ACCORDING TO INDEPENDENT, NON-PARTISAN ECONOMIC IMPACT ANALYSIS.

Please read this assessment in the article I link to below, Republicans. Yes, I realize I am pointing the discussion to a very liberal site, but the passages they are referring to, and the tax policy projections are non-partisan.

I've said this a thousand times. This election isn't about the men. It's about their platforms. Statistics now show that 7.9 million older women now live alone and almost half of all these women are over 65. The share of men 65 and over who live alone is smaller (3.3 million) but this number has grown faster than women since 2005.

I believe this phenomenon is due to lifestyle choices not lifestyle of consequence. More and more people are choosing to be single.

So please keep in mind that marriage and co-habitation is not the be all end all. Personal happiness is.

Can someone please correct me if I'm wrong? Romney is running on Conservatism. I thought Conservatism was a platform about reducing the cost of government and reducing the cost of being an American. He said, and I quote, "In my opinion the government is not effective in bringing down (loud distracting boom, probably the sound of his campaign going off the track) bringing down the cost of almost anything."

Men won't freeze their sperm when they are perfectly virile. Most people can't afford to anyway. If you think a guy will freeze his sperm so he can use his younger sperm to impregnate his future mate so that his offspring doesn't grow up to develop Altzheimers you're nuts. The scenario itself would take over 60 years to play out from now and I am supremely sure we will be genetically engineering children by then, so the 2012 frozen sperm will be completely unnecessary.

Ann Romney gave a great speech last night but I think asking his wife to be a reference for how Romney views women is juuuuust a little biased. I'd love to get personal references from women he's not in bed with. Literally. He met Ann in grade school, they started dating in high school, and got married immediately out college. They share a faith so strong that with the exception of a sip of alcohol as a teenager he is supposedly not only abstinent from alcohol but even soda, coffee and tea. Not that this makes a shred of difference or would be considered a pro or con but I doubt he ever slept with or even dated anyone other than his wife. They've been together for 50 years. Read this article below because I debate it tomorrow on Good Afternoon America. I am eager to discuss this topic, because it has been the crux to almost every mediocre marriage or sub par commitment I've seen. It is a schism that indirectly or directly causes nearly every infidelity, funk, or other failure in a domestic relationship between any two people here in the US whether it's man and woman or even man and man. My argument will be that no matter how irrelevant or unnecessary a man may be to a woman (or a man) making him feel not only wanted, but needed, is absolutely necessary to keeping him around. This is a fact of life no matter how obvious it may be that women can have it all without needing a man around - and certainly for much more than a few cells and a good time.
