Scott Jarvie379,708POST YOUR GOOGLE+ ALBUM OF PICTURESIt's been very very popular event in the past and I'm finally doing it again tonight. This time it will be more organized, more heads up than usual and even a live event.SHARE AN ALBUM/GALLERY LINKIt's simple and easy but a lot of work and very fun for all.You simply share an album here and I'll be going through every single one of the albums. Then I will +1 the pictures in the album that I'm really drawn to.BENEFITWell it's simply if you'd love to know which pictures I like most. I always loved knowing which pictures people really love of mine because it helps me have an eye for which pictures are best received. It's a huge part of becoming a better photographer in my opinion. To be able to put out great art is first to know what great art looks likeON AIRThis will be something new... I'm going to go through all the albums Live, Online as an On-Air hangout.I'll talk a little bit about what I'm doing. If the show goes well I'll keep it for later viewing on YouTube... if the recording isn't great I won't.SPECIAL GUESTBecause I want to have an outloud conversation about what and why I'm doing things I will have my good friend and great photographer +Susan Marinello on the show to facilitate the discussion. She will also visit a lot of these albums and +1 pictures as well.We ask that everyone add her to a circle ... not just because she's awesome (though that's reason enough) but so that if any of these albums are by mistake limited access she will have access.DIRECTIONS1. Paste a link of a Google+ image gallery2. Put a title or description of what we'll see in the album3.  IMPORTANT If you post a link you hereby give us permission to use a screenshare view of all those pictures and perhaps your profile in a recorded Youtube video.4. Make sure the album is Public access5. Add +Scott Jarvie  +Susan Marinello to your circles6. Return the favor. Take some of the other people's albums and +1 some of your favorites.IMPORTANTIt bears repeating:If you post a link you hereby give us permission to use a screenshare view of all those pictures and your profile (maybe) in a recorded Youtube video.DShare your Album- A Jarvie PlusOne Critique Experience2012-09-12 05:30:00148G+
Kelli Seeger Kim1,308,723It's +Karen Hutton 's birthday!  (okay, well - technically, it's September 7.  But +Kerry Murphy and I couldn't wait any longer!)Anyone familiar with Karen will attest to the fact that she is all about peoples' passions.  What drives them.  What's in their hearts.  What better gift to give to her, than to share with her images that we feel represent our passion/soul/heart!.  Images that truly represent who we feel we are now - or the journey we are on (or traveled), in search of personal growth.  Maybe you have an image of yours that represents a style of photography that you feel a deep connection with. Maybe you have an image that marked a moment in your life that was particularly incredible for you - that touched you in a way that is significant.  We can have a lot of fun with this theme - the most important thing is that it comes from our heart.  :-)So feel free to upload images to this event, and tag them:   #SharingOurLightWithKarenHutton  Sharing Our Light With Karen Hutton (Happy Birthday, Karen!)2012-09-07 13:00:0058G+

Charles Lupica83,296═════════════════════════════════     Top Photographers you should follow                 An Art of Photography Circle  Photographers whose art we think will amaze you ═════════════════════════════════#ArtOfPhotographyCircle tag to allow people to easily mute this post. It's been a while since I shared a circle here on G+ so I thought I would team up with +Scott Thomas and +Brian Dukes to share with you the first new circle I've created in more than a year.  We think you'll find that the photographers in this circle are some of the very best that G+ has to offer.  Of course you're probably already following people like Jeff Sullivan , Lori Hibbett, Jay Patel and  Vivienne Gucwa but we think that all of the people in this circle will add high quality content to your stream.  All share their amazing work and many of them share tutorials and resources to help you perfect your art. When deciding who would be in this circle, we used these guidelines• Sharing mostly their own work• When sharing the work of others, the work is clearly identified• Little to no, promotional material. • Some people are included that share a lot about technique but may not share a lot of their photography.• If they have gifs in their stream, they're almost always educational. • The images shared by these people frequently fall into the category of, "I wish I'd taken it" • They post to G+ on a regular basis,  For some this may be a little as once a month.  For others, this may be one or more a day.  People who post less than once a month are not included.  We prefer to circle people that are active here on G+. No one has asked to be in this circle, however, we intend to share a version of this each month.  *If you know of a talented photographer you'd like us to add*, please leave a comment and share the circle.  Doing so will get us to look at their profile. However, there is no guarantee that we'll include them in a future circle.   We want to maintain the quality of this circle.  Therefore, we will only add photographers that we would want to see in our own personal stream. Many of the photographers in this circle are well known so we are particularly interested in hearing your choice of photographers with fewer than 15'000 followers.  We would like to give them the opportunity to gain more views for their work. Please plus, comment and share.  This circle has no requirements for future participation but your support and encouragement is appreciated.I have chosen the name of the circle carefully to try to accurately represent the quality of the work by the photographers in it.  ValidationThis circle was very heavily vetted.  We have looked at each photographer's stream and decide that we would like to include them in this circle. +Charles Lupica (me), +Scott Thomas and +2014-06-27 17:39:05116935056CC G+

Mark Goodman8,406Introducing the Photographer Inspiration and Engagement circle. This is a collection of photographers I personally find inspiring as well as active and engaging on Google+. My hope is that if you like my work you'll also thoroughly enjoy the posts of those included in this circle.  Who's in the PIE? You knew there'd be a hook right ;)- Mostly Landscape, Cityscape and Architectural photographers.- Share mostly original content.- Photogs that I relate to they way they take a photo, process a photo or that I want to dabble in a similar look to what they achieve.- A few people that have shared me in previous circles with an appreciation for their support.Who's not in the PIE?- A lot of outstanding photographers that may just have a different style or shoot a different genre from my own. You can consider them the ice cream on the side :)- People I haven't discovered even if they might be in my circles and people I may have overlooked. It's a big Google+ ocean but I hope to continue adding people that fit this particular circle in the future. - No spammers or non-photography related streams. If you find that's not the case please send me a message. Please add and reshare the circle so others may enjoy what I think is an extremely high quality circle.Have a great day and enjoy your enhanced content stream!2014-04-06 16:56:5721024720CC G+

The sun will shine no matter where your heart chooses to grow.

I shot this photo with my +Sony  #A7R  and processed it on my iPhone. Yup, on my iPhone. Having a camera with a Wi-Fi feature has been a lot of fun. I don't do it often enough, but it's convenient to be able to transfer a photo to my phone or tablet without having to use cables or adapters, and just process some photos on the go. Or if I'm too lazy to turn on the computer. He he. I shot RAW+JPEG in order to get a full resolution JPEG over to my phone, then I did basic color corrections with the +Snapseed app and finished it off with some processing in the +VSCO cam app. Apparently though, the iOS version of VSCOcam needs to resize the image to a smaller size due to certain restrictions with iOS (thanks for the info +Brian Matiash) so this image is only about half of what the original size was, but nevertheless, it'son... more »

While time slows down for no one, my memories of her remain still in my mind.

Whenever I’m in Japan, I always seem to never have enough time. Not enough time to shoot all that I wanted to shoot. Not enough time to see other parts of the country that I haven’t seen in a while, or at all. And certainly not enough time to meet with all of the people that I know there. Tokyo moves at such a fast pace, and the same can also be said about my visits to my home away from home. That being said, as fast a pace as my vacation goes, I try to squeeze in as much as I can. At least when it comes to hanging out with my closest friends. So during my last night in town, my good friend +Takahiro Yamamoto was able to find some time for one last shoot before I headed back home the following day. When I arrived back to the city I made my way to Shinjuku Station where Takahiro was waiting. When we met up, he had agrea... more »

Though the road was long, I kept moving knowing that something special would be waiting for me.

Shot with the +Sony  #A7R  paired with a Rokinon 14mm f/2.8 wide angle lens.

I've often said that one of the best things about the United States are the long and scenic highways that cut throughout the country. They provide access to some of the most beautiful and interesting landscapes I've had the pleasure to see. And on the day I shot this, my opinion was validated with one incredible scene.

My goddaughter is once again the focus of my camera. But with an innocent smile like this, I really can't resist taking a photo of her.

I also think she smiles like this to set me up for Christmas and her Birthday. Yes, I believe she's that slick already. He he.

When I'm itching to go for a shoot but too lazy to leave the comforts of home, I end up playing in the world of figure photography. It's fun to play with some small lighting setups since it's not something I normally do. And since the idea of driving through LA traffic has made me lazier by the minute, I'll probably end up with a ton of figure photos by the end of the year. He he.

Then again, I could just spend my time playing Angry Birds or something.

Without saying a word she blew me a kiss goodbye.

Today I thought I'd share another photo that was shot with my +Sony  #A7R  and processed on my trusty iPhone. The wifi feature on the camera has made transferring images to mobile devices incredibly easy so while waiting for scenes like this to unfold I've been able to take a few minutes and process some A7R images while on the go. Or if I'm too lazy to turn on the computer at home. He he.

Images processed on my phone, regardless of what I shot it with, have been making their way to Instagram first since it's an easy interface to use and it hits several other social sites at once. So feel free to hop on over to my stream and check it out. http://instagram.com/themarke

A lot of times when I visit a foreign country, especially if it's a country I'm visiting for the first time or not that often, I like just walking and traveling in a random direction. No plans, no maps, just jump on a train going one way or better yet, just walk in the direction of the wind. And when I find something interesting during my exploration, like this junction in Singapore, it adds a nice bonus to my trip.

Sun, trees, and a silhouette. Not a bad combination for an interesting landscape shot.

A while back I had lost contact with my protocol and astromech droids so I set off in search for them at their last known location. I thought I was on the right path but didn't find them anywhere. Later I found out that they had been picked up and sold as "used" to a guy named Owen and Luke. When I tracked them down they were kind enough to return them but it seemed like they needed them more than me, so I let them keep the droids in exchange for a hot meal and a lift to the nearest spaceport town.

If there's one thing I really enjoy about piers, it's exploring the world underneath them. There always seems to be something interesting to see and shoot whenever I'm underneath a pier. And the San Clemente Pier is certainly no exception to that.

I may have found where heaven meets Earth.

As some of you may know, I've been playing around with the Wi-Fi feature on the +Sony  #A7R . It's made my mobile workflow a bit easier, not having to deal with SD card adapters for my tablet or phone. Lately, I've been shooting at RAW+JPEG in order to transfer the full res JPEGs over to my mobile device. And while some processing apps automatically resize the image to a smaller size, I still end up with a decent sized photo. And as a landscape photographer, waiting for sunset at a scene, processing on location is a fun way to kill a little bit of time before the sun goes down. Like this moment at Angeles National Forest. There was quite some time before the sunset so I decided to take a few minutes to process this image on my trusty iPhone during my cloud watching.

G+ tends to grab the top half of a portrait oriented photograph for the link thumbnail. So unless you're satisfied with just these clouds, I guess you'll have to click through. He he he. ;-P

So this past weekend I went out to shoot the super moon. I can tell you now that any shot I took of that moon didn't turn out so well. So for today's blog post I decided to post an image from the previous super moon. I didn't have a lens that got me anywhere near it. It wasn't during a moonrise or moonset so I don't have any foreground action in the image. It's just a plain ol' image of the moon. But I like the moon so I posted it. He he.

When me and my dear friend +Yumi Shoji and her baby daughter were walking around the beautiful area of Nakameguro in Tokyo, Japan, we decided to take a break and have a seat on one of the public seating areas along the river. While we missed full bloom of the Sakura we were still able to catch some great bloom and more than that, the Sakura Fubuki (cherry blossom blizzard). The wind had been blowing nicely all day so there would be times when we would get many of the Sakura petals floating around in the air like snowflakes. When we stood up again I thought I’d get this angled view of the river. It was a section that didn’t have much cherry blossom bloom, but the river was completely saturated by the pink petals. If there are a couple of things that landscape photography has helped me improve about myself, it's patience and discipline. The patience to wait for sunset. The discipline to get up during ungodly hours for sunrise. Etc. and so forth.

And who would've thought that that patience and discipline would come in handy while I waited for my cousin and her family to come zooming by on the Jurassic Park Ride at Universal Studios Hollywood. It was hot with no shade and I waited for damn near an hour, but I got what I wanted.

Too bad their heads were down though. ;-P

It may not be the trail you intended to find, but it could be the trail that you were meant to follow.

When I found myself at Kennedy Meadows near the Mojave desert here in California, I really had no intentions of shooting the stars. It was a clear enough sky, but a 3/4 moon was set to rise that night so I had no real desire to shoot deep into the night. As a matter of fact, I had left my D3S at home and had only taken 2 lenses with me to use with the +Sony  #A7R .  A Rokinon 14mm f/2.8 UWA for Nikon (attached by way of Metabones adapter), and a Sony FE 24-70mm f/4. I can tell you now, that I never once switched lenses during this shoot. I wanted to put the Rokinon lens through its paces, but I was also a bit lazy in that regard. Not that it’s a hard thing to do, but yeah, lazy. I can also tell you that the Rokinon, though intended for Nikon mount, performed quite well throughout the day. As sunset approaced, me and my pal +Scott Sugawara found this small creek passing underneath a small bridge so we decided to setup at this location and just spend the rest of the day there. And after sunset, the star shooting bug bit. After all, we had driven for hours just to get there, so we might as well take advantage of the view, right? This was also a good chance to not only test the Rokinon lens with star shooting which it supposedly excels at, but it was also a chance to put the A7R through some more star shooting tests. And if this shot is any indication, I was quite pleased with my results.

All year long most of us spend our days indoors at an office cubicle slaving away in front of a computer screen and under artificial light. So when there's a chance to grab some beautifully natural light, it makes the body and soul feel a whole lot better.

Well, at least I think so. But I know a few nerds that would say otherwise.

And yes, it's another thumbnail fail, but at least you get a preview of the nice clear sky. ;-P

I originally shared this photo to Instagram. I normally only share iPhone photos to Instagram, but I have put up an A7R photo or two because, heck, why not? With the Wi-Fi making it easy to transfer photos, I might start sharing more A7R photos there. Maybe not ones that I've rated to be processed on my computer, but definitely some fun ones that I decide to run through my phone. And though I'm still trying to plan another trip back there, I can at least go back into my archives and enjoy the memories I made during my last visit.

Gotta love digital photography for being able to go back into these RAW archives.

For anyone familiar with a previous post titled Sun down the middle, then this location might look familiar to you. I had taken the previous photo earlier in the day before the sun reached the horizon. I was also further back on an elevated pathway. For this shot, I had ventured down right next to the water for the blue hour. From right at the Kasai JCT, the proper way to get down there was quite a distance and I probably wouldn’t have made it back for blue hour, so I took a shortcut. Nothing illegal, but not exactly the safest way to go because there were some stone slabs that were incredibly slippery. Not because of water, but because of years and years of soot, dust, dirt, you name it. Plus, I had to pull off some Jean Claude Van Damme like splits to get from one slab to the next. But I made it safely and I vowedt... more »

Not because of water, but because of years and years of soot, dust, dirt, you name it. Plus, I had to pull off some Jean Claude Van Damme like splits to get from one slab to the next. But I made it safely and I vowed to take the long way around next time. He he. But anyways, now that I was down by the water where the fisherman, well, fish, I began walking across and underneath this epic junction looking for a good spot to shoot it for when the blues of the evening colored the scene. I finally settled on this spot thinking it would be neat to have a different perspective of my previous shot, as well as a single frame, non-HDR. Anyways, it’s not like I needed to bracket with the sun well below the horizon and to the right of this scene. I composed my image, centering myself between the bridges as best I could, and started taking some shots. I wanted to get the water as smooth as possible for that particular time, so I increased my aperture to what should have been f/22 (Metabones adapter with a Tokina wide angle), lowered my ISO to 50 on the +Sony  #A7R , and managed to get a nice, 25 second exposure. I had thought about waiting a bit longer to get a proper 30 seconds, or perhaps even using bulb to get an exposure of a couple of minutes, but looking at this on my LCD screen, I really liked how I still had some texture in the water. It was smooth, but not completely and had that hint of texture. So I decided to call it and made my way back up to where my good friend +Takahiro Yamamoto had been shooting.

And with that, welcome to another #ThirstyThursdayPics . If you'd like to contribute then get your photos posted and don't forget to use the hashtag and to tag the one and only +Giuseppe Basile!

I've said before that I try a lot of pano shots. Or to be more accurate, I shoot enough frames for a pano. But I don't necessarily get to process it because I end up working on single frames. Easier to deal with for a lazy guy like me. But once in a while I'm not so lazy and I do manage to process a pano.

This pano is of the Universal Backlot at Universal Studios Hollywood. Turned out ok if I do say so myself, but you can be the judge. Thumbnail is crappy this time, probably due to the length of the image.

It's not secret at this point that I visit Japan quite frequently. Several times a year in fact. And of all the times I've visited there, renting a car has never been a thought in my mind because the public transportation is by far the best that I've been able to use. Efficient, convenient and almost always on time.

Today's blog post feature a shot of one of the train lines that I've used over the past several years. Not as often as other lines, but one that I've used many times.

Yesterday's sunset was... well, you get the idea.

Yesterday I finally made it back up to the peak of my beloved Verdugo Mountains in Glendale, CA. It's by far one of my favorite places in all of L.A., but to be honest I hadn't been up there in quite a long time. I'm sure there have been several reasons as to why I haven't hiked back up there for a long time, but since none of them come to mind right now, let's just chalk it up to laziness. But as you can see, the sky was just too inviting to not try and get up to an elevated view above the city. This was shot with my trusty iPhone and processed with Snapseed and VSCOcam.

I actually haven't shared a mobile photo here for quite some time as well. Also for several reasons I'm too lazy to talk about right now. In fact, I have this backed up to Google Drive, so I'm sharing it directly to my album ofch... more »

In fact, I have this backed up to Google Drive, so I'm sharing it directly to my album of choice with my computer, so I guess this is half mobile at this point. Anyways, with that being said, I do post mobile photos to Instagram. Which of course automatically posts to FB and Twitter. So if you'd like to see more of my mobile photos here's a link to my Instagram account: http://instagram.com/themarke

And if you're not down with Instagram, like I said, there's still Twitter and FB. He he.

The phrase "that's what she said" might come to mind when you read the title to today's blog post. And if that's the case, cool. But what I really intended was to show off one of the drainage tunnels along the L.A. River. Graffiti, empty alcohol bottles and several cans of abandoned spray paint is what line the tunnel walls.

On a side note: I've just come to the realization that I forget to post links to my daily blog posts here, but that doesn't mean that I don't have a new post up. So to all 5 of you out there that visit my blog, I can assure you that I haven't missed a day and don't plan to miss a day for quite some time. So if I'm quiet here then you can bet that a post will still be up on my blog each and every day.

Before leaving she left me with a warm smile that left me wanting more.

Every once in a while I have thoughts of moving out to some countryside in the Eastern Sierra Nevada. It’s just so incredibly beautiful up there that I would dare anyone not to have such thoughts. Especially when they’re treated to an incredible sunset like this one by Mono Lake. I would gladly trade in smog and traffic to be able to see this everyday. During this particular shoot, I had gone there hoping to catch a great sunset (which I obviously did) as well as some Milky Way action above the water. But then these rain clouds came drifting in. My first thought was that I probably wouldn’t see the Milky Way, at least not there on that night. But at the same time, if the clouds didn’t block the distant mountain horizon line, it could create some interesting colors in the sky. And lucky for me, the latter happened. Itook se... more »

I took several shots of this scene as the sun slowly descended down and behind the mountains. It seemed that no matter where the sun was, the scene was nothing short of spectacular. I can honestly say that even without this and other photos I came away with, this is a sunset that I’ll never forget. And it’s also a memory that will keep me coming back time and time again.

Whenever I get the itch to shoot a long exposure with some streaking car lights I have one spot that I consider my go-to. And no, it's not Downtown Los Angeles. It's actually away from the heart of the city so there aren't many buildings in the scene. But I do get a nice long road for some long streaks. Some mountains on either end and in the distance. And sometimes an interesting sky.

And though it's my go-to spot, I'm taking a break from shooting it. I've simply just shot it too often I think. Check out today's blog post to read a little bit more.

This shot may look familiar to some of you and that's because I actually posted here to G+  month or so ago when I initially processed it. But it's just today that it's been published to my blog. Usually I try to get images to the blog first, but this is just the order that things go for me sometimes. He he.

And yes, this is a portrait orientation image, so the thumbnail that G+ is pulling is just the upper half. Twitter and FB don't seem to have that kind of issue, but in any case, if you want to see the full image, click through or browse through my Japan album here on G+.

I'm always more than happy to talk about the adventures I've had throughout Japan with my dearest friend +Yumi Shoji! Seeing the Fall colors of the North to enjoying a Winter breeze in the South, we've had great times on several adventures throughout Japan. But, once upon a time, we also had ourselves a fun adventure here on my side of the ocean in Southern California. So today's blog post features a photo I took of my dear friend during her California adventure.

And the next time I take her photo here, I'm sure it'll include her beautiful baby girl.

So during my last night in town, my good friend +Takahiro Yamamoto was able to find some time for one last shoot before I headed back home the following day. When I arrived back to the city I made my way to Shinjuku Station where Takahiro was waiting. When we met up, he had a great idea by suggesting we go shoot the junction that he took me to a few years ago during our first Google+ photowalk together. That photowalk was around the same time of year (Sakura season) and it became blistering cold, so he remembered that I didn’t get many shots of this junction in because I was absolutely freezing at that point. And with a warmer night than previous days during my stay, it was the perfect time to get back and get some proper shots in. After shooting this junctions from several angles, a few of which included the moon, we both settled on this point of view. Not only did it provide a great composition of the junction, but it also gave us a clear view of the passing car lights. I took a few shots trying to get some descent light trails in there and I finally settled on this. Just enough light to streak by, but not so much that it drowns out the junction.

It was a fun night and a great way to end the trip. Perhaps next time I’ll have scheduled things out better so that I can have more time with these junctions and my friends.

I shot this photo of a light at night. My brain is fried today so that's about as creative as I'm going to get as far as typing words is concerned.

I'm not much of a mall person, especially when I'm on vacation. But when the interior architecture is as attractive as this, it's hard to resist walking in and taking some shots.

Even with a giant boy band banner staring down the entire area.

A long road leading to some mountains and the sky is something I simply can't resist. And when I find an area like this, is there any surprise that I'd feel totally at peace in such a place?

With a starry sky like this, can anyone not see why I love to get away from the city? Death Valley has been one of my go to places to visit when it comes to beautifully natural scenes like this. Even the light pollution of Las Vegas can't penetrate this amazing sky.
