Ben Shields5,704Circle Share: Black and White PhotographersThis evening, I thought I'd try my clicking finger at sharing my first "circle"... so why not present you with a number of active black and white photographers that I've drawn lots of inspiration from over the past year? The folks in this circle have been sharing black and white landscapes, street scenes, flowers, and many other subjects (some that aren't always B&W)  that I hope you will enjoy as much as I do! Check 'em out!2014-02-04 02:50:4581904CC G+

Stephan Spelde8,664My Inspirational CircleEver since I joined Google plus in the end of the year 2011 I have been looking for those special ones. Those people that inspired me...touched my soul with their work or made me laugh my pants off.It took me over 2 years to fill this circle up to 500 inspirators, but today... I finally added my last person. :)I will seek more of these in the future, don't worry, and this means I will have to share multiple circles from now on, but for now...these are the 500 most inspirational people on Google Plus for me.A great big Thank You to everybody in this circle for enriching my Google Plus experience and inspire and motivate me in becoming a better photographer.artist. #circleshare   #circlesharing   #circles  2014-01-09 22:05:0550031930CC G+
Georges Pauly14,521Thomas HawkShared publicly  -  30 Aug 2013 2500 Kick Ass Google+ Photographers (part 2 of 5)This is the fifth time I've shared my photographer's circle on Google+.  I'm going to share it in 5 posts.  Yesterday I shared last name A-Da.  This one , part 2 of 5, today, represents Da-Ho.  I'll share the remaining three next week.  I originally shared my photographers circle at 500, 1,000, 1,500 and 2,000 photographers.  I'll probably share it again eventually when it gets to 3,000.A few notes about this circle. The criteria that I look for (and don't always get right) in this circle is that the photographer produce interesting and engaging photography.  I also look for people who are active in the community, post mostly their own work, and post regularly.  I'm looking more for people who post their own work and less of the noise stuff (gifs, links, non-photography, promotions, etc.).  I also like people who are positive, friendly, nice, helpful, etc. and dislike people who are mean, snarky, jerks, disrespectful, etc.I have a pretty well known bias against signatures and watermarks.  You will see very few photographers in my circles who use them.  I really hate the watermark debate and would rather not have it with folks.  I just don't like them -- it's my circle that I have to look at.  There are likely a few folks in here who use them who are friends of mine, but for the most part, this is a pretty watermark free circle.  It's totally cool if you love your watermark, it's just not something I really want to look at.  Please don't hate me for my aesthetic preference.  Finally, the photography community on Google+ is probably the best one on the internet today.  There is no way that I can possibly include all of the fine photographers worth following on G+.  There are wayyyyy too many.  These are just 2,500 that I personally have noticed.  I'm sure I left out some really amazing ones -- like you if you are not in this circle :)  I'll probably also totally kick myself when I realize that I accidentally left out a really obvious good one who may even be a friend of mine -- again, maybe even like you.  :)Stay tuned for parts 3, 4 and 5 and thanks again to all of the great photographers on G+ who make this place such a delight to hang out.Part 1-5:  http://goo.gl/17ujpn*Note, Google Circles are terribly wonky.  It wouldn't let me add some photographers in my circle into these circles because of domain errors.  If this affected you, sorry about that.2013-09-01 19:56:06482204CC G+
Promote Photography8,407THE FIRST 401 PROMOTED!!!!You have been chosen by +Promote Photography  because your work is very good and have to be promoted / shared. If you do not share this circle you will still be in it! But if you do share we will be thankful to you!Next share at 500If you like to be in it you can tag us #promotephotography there is no guaranty but it will help us found your work!Share if you like!  READ THIS NOTE BY +Rodney Campbell (well seen, thank you!)Note that I got an error when trying to add the Circle +Promote Photography  - not the usual domain restriction error where it still creates the circle but the one where it says it can't add one or more people and/or pages.Unfortunately it's +Alycia Miller  entry which is causing the error for me (and also for at least one other circle I'm aware of) - when I remove her from the circle before adding it adds fine. +Alycia Miller  is already in multiple of my circles so not a problem for me but others may not be able to add this circle. I can also see her account looks to have been Fubar'd by G+ at the moment (it's empty of posts)2013-09-01 10:58:4040113462113CC G+

From here on, I am going to have to become rather more strict about the "spam rules." Essentially if I have to go back more than a screen on your profile before I hit original material, there is a good chance that I may drop you from the circles. Of course there will be mitigating factors...Because of the way that Google no longer presents every person who adds me to their circles to me it is quite possible that I have missed some pretty good photographers.  If I am following you, chances are that you are already in one of these circles or in my "check later" circle.  If you think you have been missed, tag a comment on one of these posts and I will check your profile out for inclusion.  Guidelines for inclusion can be found at:https://plus.google.com/u/0/103752943025677384806/about#circleshare #circlesharing #circleoftheday #handpickedcircles   #sharedcircles  #sharedcircle #sharedpubliccircles   #fullcircleshare #addmetoyourcircles #pixelworld   #pixelworldcircle #circleoftheday #bestsharedcircle  #thebestcirclesongoogle #thebestcircle  Note: the hash tag #handpickedcircles  should only be used to refer to these circles and other circles created by 2013-07-16 11:05:57162606CC G+

Scott Jarvie76,297236 Ambassadors for PhotographyAt the beginning of the month +Photography Decathlon asked for suggestions for who should represent each of the 10 styles of photography that will be represented at this years competition in October. (Teach and judge.)The post was well received getting 400+ shares and many hundred comments on several different shares. There were 536 suggestions (thankfully many repeated) and in the end these 236 photographers.I should shareIt dawned on me that people out there really believe in these photographers and therefore a shared list/circle of these people would truly be of a great benefit to all.Add Shared CirclePerhaps you're already following most of them, perhaps only a few... I suggest you, create a little circle and try them all out, I'll bet you'll find some hidden gems like I have.Stay tuned for newsAnd of course our committee is going through the suggestions to find a photographer for each of these fields. Thomas Hawk2,461,0112,000 Kick Ass Photographers on Google+Part 1 of 4 (A-Ev)This is the fourth time since joining G+ almost a year ago that I'm sharing my photographers circle.  I shared it with 500 photographers, 1,000 photographers, 1,500 photographers and now 2,000 photographers.  I have to break my circle up into four 500 photographer circles as that is the G+ limit.  Each day this week (Mon.- Thurs.) I'll share a different circle.  Today is the first circle and includes photographers with the last name's A-Ev (although +Marc Evans you are in tomorrow's circle).  A few notes about these circles.  I always get hated on when I share them by people.  Inevitably if I include 2,000 people, I will leave 50,000 people out.  This is not intentional or personal.  This circle is not "the best" photographers on G+ or in the world.  It doesn't mean if you are not in my circle that you are not a "quality" photographer.  This list is simply photographers that I've stumbled across for whatever reason over the past year and have chosen to follow their work.  In some cases I've gotten to know the photographers in this circle personally -- through photowalks and trips, hangouts, in real life, etc.  Many of these people are or have become my friends.  Most of the photographers in my circle though I don't even know.  They are just people whose work I admire and want to consume -- I hope many are future friends.  :)I use some objective criteria with this circle but I use a lot of subjective criteria too.  This is, afterall, my own personal circle that I look at and +1 from every single day.  My aesthetic taste and personal preferences may be very, very different than yours.  This is ok.  Art is subjective.  That said, here a breakdown of my own preferences and biases that influence who I add into my circle.1.  I like people who are active on G+.  If you haven't posted one of your photos in the last month you probably are not in this circle.  I use a script to uncircle inactive people regularly.2.  I like photographers who mostly post their own photographs.  I dislike clutter and "dumb stuff" in my photographers circle.  Excessive reshares, circle shares, memes, gifs, youtube videos, posts not about photography, web links, etc. make me uncircle or move people to a different circle.  I also like photographers who regulate how much of their photography they post to their stream.  I don't want to see 50 shots in a row of someone's vacation.  I think about 5 photos max a day feels about right to me.3.  *Controversial* I dislike signatures and watermarks.  You will find photographers in my circle that use them.  It's just a bias, not a hard and fast rule.  I mostly want this stream to be as watermark/signature free as possible.  I totally understand and respect your reasons and decision for using watermarks/signatures.  I hope you equally respect my decision to not want to consume photos mared up with them.  Please don't turn this into a discussion about watermarks/sigs, I've spent the last 10 years thinking heavily about this issue.  It's just a personal preference and bias.4.  I like people who are active, positive, helpful, enthusiastic G+ community members.  I dislike people who are rude, mean, complainers, trolls, harrasers, etc.  If you say mean things to people, about people, about their art or their work I don't want to follow you.  I'm fine with debate and disagreement.  It should just be done respectfully -- there's a huge difference between respectful disagreement and rude behavior.  Not only will you not be in this circle if you are rude, I'll probably 2012-06-04 16:53:26500235147424CC G+

Another fine installment from +Olivier Du Tré in posting the work of his latest students work from a recent Minimalist snowscape workshop featuring Leigh Trusler.

Well Leigh as with Glenn's work yesterday, absolutely awesome. I love all three of these images, and as Olivier says too the soft feel in how you processed the images works really well. Great work.

Continuing my series of images on the frozen summit of the Ballon D'Alsace situated in Eastern France.
This series called "Vlads Tree" which was discovered by +Vladislav Surguchëv  during his recent visit along +Dimitri Bogachuk  to photograph on the mountain top.
I took 7 images of this tree from different angles and over a period of 3 weeks, each time discovering a new state in it's form.

It has in fact been online for several months hence the few comments on the news page for those who managed to find it beforehand.

The site is from squarespace for those interested and they offer a superb service.

I will soon be putting a new FB page up shortly and transferring all my images and photographic news over there.

We'll winter has come and is also on the way out too and it's been a mild one this year in Eastern France where i live. No snow this year at 350 meters, just light frost, so i have had to take a drive of around 45 minutes to get to the nearest mountains and snows, and in particular my usual hunting ground to find the elusive deep snows, and again it was at the Ballon D'Alsace i was able to go shooting recently with a couple of great photographers who stayed with me after a recent visit to France
+Vladislav Surguchëv
http://vladislavsurguchev.eu/
and +Dimitri Bogachuk
http://dimitribogachuk.com/
who were over to visit Michael Kenna and his exhibition in Nancy.
We spent a great 3 days together and went up onto the Ballon to shoot some snowscapes, it was a little thin on the ground back then in December but has come back with a vengeance over the last fewweeks... more »

Well here is my last image of 2013.
Taken in the town of Vesoul in Eastern France at the "Lac de Vesoul-Vaivre on a chilly frosty morning a couple of weeks ago.
The title of this image "La Motte" refers to the small chapel on top of the hill in the distance.
This is also for this weeks Minimal Monday with +Olivier Du Tré

Have a great Christmas and new year everyone, see you in 2014. :)

For some reason this is showing some banding in the sky which is not on the original file, so you'll just have to ignore this.

Well here's a new Snowscape which i shot earlier in the year.
This image is of some fishing cages on a frozen, snow-covered lake in Eastern France.
This is also my contribution to +Olivier Du Tré 100th edition of Minimal Monday with special guest judge +Joel Tjintjelaar
The theme being - Human interaction and the landscape.
Many of the 900 - 1000 lakes in this area of Eastern France, also known as "les mille etangs" or 1000 Lakes/Ponds, such as in this shot are privately  owned, and many of the owners stock the lakes with Carp amongst others. The lakes are usually emptied every few years and the fish are sold.

MinimalMonday #100 ASSIGNMENT

As you might have heard, #minimalmonday is going to turn 100 next week. I'm very excited about this milestone. 100 weeks of curating such a wonderful theme has been very fulfilling.

You guys also know that international award winning photographer (and B&W gur +Joel Tjintjelaar aar is going to guest curate this special edition of MM. Super proud Joel is willing to help me out with the festivities. :)

For this special edition Joel and I thought of the following short term assignment (we had to make it a bit challenging right?). So not only do we want to see your best minimal landscape photograph but there's a catch. Why have a theme for you to work with.

The theme is going to be: 'Human interaction and the landscape'.

Interpret it as free as you like but there has to be a human vs. nature... more »

I have just had a look at all the new images on his site, and they are amazing.
The very muted and almost pastel colours in his new work have a certain monochromatic feel, so a gentle progression into color.

New: Chicago two-day modules

We are very happy to announce that, by popular demand, we are opening the registration to the Chicago Photowalk for two-day modules at half price! We don’t want to let anybody out of this incredible opportunity to meet and shoot in one of the most iconic American cities with Joel, Sharon, Armand, and Julia. We understand that some people don’t have that many days off work, or that people’s pockets are not all equally deep. So we decided to offer two modules: Thursday and Friday, or Saturday and Sunday. Moreover, the modules are 50% off at $825.

What are you waiting for? Act now, there are only a handful of places left! We are positive that these places will go very fast, don’t miss out!

From Stills to Motion - Online time lapse workshop

Want to set your images in motion? I'm excited to announce a new online workshop where I will be explaining time lapse techniques in an easy to understand and fun way. When I was learning how to create time lapse shots myself, I found that a lot of resources lean very heavily on the technical aspects, meanwhile loosing track of the creative side. With this online course I want to show you how easy and fun it is to capture the element of time and create (literally) moving images. Even if you already have some experience with time lapse, I'll show you how to take your shots to a whole new level.

I curated VERY tightly this week. So don't feel bad for not making the wrap up.

Thanks goes out to everyone who contributed this week again (and making the theme trend judging from the total randomness of some entries). It's thanks to you we are still doing this!

Cheers
