Scotland Photowalk 2015230Here is the official Event for the 2013 UK Seaside Photowalk. The official kickoff will be Saturday morning, probably around 9am. Then again, there will be people out much earlier to catch the sunrise, that's for sure.  Please indicate whether you will be joining us, so we have a rough idea of how many people we can expect. Please note that this is not a confirmed booking or anything. Whoever shows up will be welcome.  If you can join us only for one day, Saturday or Sunday, that'll be fine, too, of course. We'll make sure to announce tour details and meeting points in a few weeks.  We hope to see you all there. And if someone has good connections to the weather gods, please let them know that we'd prefer the "no rain" option.  Cheers Athena & AndyUK Seaside Photowalk2013-10-05 09:00:0071

No snow this year at 350 meters, just light frost, so i have had to take a drive of around 45 minutes to get to the nearest mountains and snows, and in particular my usual hunting ground to find the elusive deep snows, and again it was at the Ballon D'Alsace i was able to go shooting recently with a couple of great photographers who stayed with me after a recent visit to France

We spent a great 3 days together and went up onto the Ballon to shoot some snowscapes, it was a little thin on the ground back then in December but has come back with a vengeance over the last fewweeks... more »

Another long moment since i last posted a new LE image, so here's something new.
I was in the UK a couple of weeks ago visiting family, and took the opportunity to head down to Fairfield Church which is a much photographed church on the Romney Marsh in Kent, not far from where my parents live.
The church stands alone surrounded by fields, grazing sheep and small ditches.
It was apparently built around 200 years ago and was renovated around 1913.
This was taken at the end of 36hrs of continuous heavy rain and the end of a passing storm.  This is the first of 3 images from the same shoot before it threw it down with rain.

+kozu books  have launched a new website today dedicated to inspiration, or what inspires you as a photographer to take the photographs that you do.
This is not exclusive to professional or experienced photographers but is OPEN TO EVERYONE, no matter what your experience or what type of kit you use to take a photograph, even photo's taken with your phone, but the most important part is that it must show what inspires you.
So read the link below carefully, and send an image into Kozu Essence and who knows you may even get featured in the magazine.

So today we are launching www.kozuessence.com

Kozu essence sets out to explore “inspiration” in Photography and to discover what inspires Photographers to go out there and make beautiful images.

kozu essence will be a multi platform project (online & a printed magazine), where photographers can share where they draw their inspiration.

Kozu essence will be open to anyone & everyone, you do not have to be a professional photographer and you do not have to be a journalist, as long as your image is of a reasonable standard & your words explain why your chosen image inspires you then it will be considered for publishing to www.kozuessence.com

If your image gets published to www.kozuessence.com then you also have a good chance of it being printed in the magazine
Now here is the twist!

The image does not have to be a fine art gallery style image, it could be a photo taken on your phone if you want! it could be of a person, a place, a coffee shop, a landmark, a country, a book, a tree, the ocean, a mountain a bridge, a bike! ANYTHING! anything that gives you the inspiration to go out there & create wonderful images.

I am looking for images that will surprise people, images that they would not expect to see.

If you want to submit one of your best images then that is no problem as long as it is a source of inspiration to you
The only criteria is the image must be taken by you, it must be supplied 1000px wide, it can be any height, it can be Portrait, landscape, square but must be 1000px wide. It can be a triptych, a diptych etc if you want.

To accompany the image I would like each submission to have a few paragraphs of words explaining why the image is a source of inspiration, this is KEY to this idea, the words are just as important as the image, its not about what inspired you take that particular image but what inspires you to create beautiful images in general.

If you are interested in taking part please submit your image & your words to kozuessence@gmail.com

Each image will be fully credited with a link to your website etc... obviously the copyright would remain with the photographer and I would only seek permission to publish it online at www.kozuessence.com & potentially in the magazine.
Please feel free to ask me any questions you may have about this project & if you are unsure about anything take a look at the website to see the format of the submissions.

I think it will be really interesting to visit a site & read about what inspires your fellow Photographers and also to see what type of image they choose to submit.

I hope you will find this idea of interest, your support and your participation would be greatly appreciated, I am really looking forward to seeing how this evolves in particular with regard to the printed magazine

Thank you,

Greg

Massive thanks to +Julia Anna Gospodarou +Michael Diblicek +Thibault Roland for getting kozu essence underway :-)

Hi Everyone.
Here is the my first foray into the world of music video's, film.
Please note that we had some difficulties time wise putting the 1920x1080 version up on Vimeo, but will endeavor to do this early next week as the singer Neil Habib Georges is having a long weekend at a local rock festival (As a spectator)

So after putting all this together with some friends and girlfriends, a classic car and a modern motorbike we got together one saturday and filmed all the scenes in one day.
I will let you read the description on the Vimeo page for the rest.
So here goes, i hope you like it. And of course all comments welcome
For info i was Co-Director on this project as well as co Editor.
The majority of this video was shot using a Canon 550D T/2i with the standard 18-55mm + 55-250mm + Tamron 10-22mm lenses
Lee Filters Neutral Density filters 1+2+3 stops
MANFROTTO 055CXPRO4 Tripod with a Manfrotto 701HDV fluid head.
Shot using available light.
All scenes were shot in a single day.
Some additional scenes on the motorbikes where shot by Caroline (Naas) and Xavier Porteu de la Morandière using - Smartphones : Samsung Galaxy Note 2/Samsung Galaxy S2.

A BIG THANKS to +Armand Dijcks for teaching how to get the best out of a DSLR for film work, which i learnt of one of his Film Workshops

Another fine installment from +Olivier Du Tré in posting the work of his latest students work from a recent Minimalist snowscape workshop featuring Leigh Trusler.

Well Leigh as with Glenn's work yesterday, absolutely awesome. I love all three of these images, and as Olivier says too the soft feel in how you processed the images works really well. Great work.

It has in fact been online for several months hence the few comments on the news page for those who managed to find it beforehand.

The site is from squarespace for those interested and they offer a superb service.

I will soon be putting a new FB page up shortly and transferring all my images and photographic news over there.

You will also see a page dedicated to Black and White Long Exposure workshops that i will be conducting throughout the year, both Architectural and Seascapes, so if you are interested in attending one you can sign up on the dedicated webpage or by contacting me through my contact page.
I will also be available for private workshops for those interested, again just use the contact page.

We'll winter has come and is also on the way out too and it's been a mild one this year in Eastern France where i live.

This is a long exposure snowscape of 3 minutes 18 seconds i shot recently entitled Vlads Tree 1, and is part of a small series of this tree from different angles, and as a tribute to Vladislav who found this wonderful tree on the slopes of the Ballon. I thought i had found all the great places to shoot in this area, but no, Vlad found this great looking tree although during the time we spent on the mountain their wasn't the amount of snow we have now, and with the weight of the ice and snow on the branches it has taken on a wonderful arched form.

For some reason this is showing some banding in the sky which is not on the original file, so you'll just have to ignore this.

Well here's a new Snowscape which i shot earlier in the year.
This image is of some fishing cages on a frozen, snow-covered lake in Eastern France.
This is also my contribution to +Olivier Du Tré 100th edition of Minimal Monday with special guest judge +Joel Tjintjelaar
The theme being - Human interaction and the landscape.
Many of the 900 - 1000 lakes in this area of Eastern France, also known as "les mille etangs" or 1000 Lakes/Ponds, such as in this shot are privately  owned, and many of the owners stock the lakes with Carp amongst others. The lakes are usually emptied every few years and the fish are sold.

Hi everyone,

If don't already know +Olivier Du Tré will be doing his 100th minimalmonday competition next week, with a special guest judge +Joel Tjintjelaar
And this time it's going to be a Themed minimal monday.
Check out all the details below.
Come on and participate and share this like crazy. The more the merrier.

MinimalMonday #100 ASSIGNMENT

As you might have heard, #minimalmonday is going to turn 100 next week. I'm very excited about this milestone. 100 weeks of curating such a wonderful theme has been very fulfilling.

You guys also know that international award winning photographer (and B&W gur +Joel Tjintjelaar aar is going to guest curate this special edition of MM. Super proud Joel is willing to help me out with the festivities. :)

For this special edition Joel and I thought of the following short term assignment (we had to make it a bit challenging right?). So not only do we want to see your best minimal landscape photograph but there's a catch. Why have a theme for you to work with.

The theme is going to be: 'Human interaction and the landscape'.

Interpret it as free as you like but there has to be a human vs. nature juxtaposition in the composition. Again. Free interpretation of the theme is key. I know it may sound challenging. And I know it's short term. But I know you guys can do it. Let's see who comes up with the most original photograph.

IMPORTANT
When you post on Monday. Please use the hashtag #minimalmonday an +Joel Tjintjelaar and I in your post.

Also please help me by sharing this post as much as possible so we have as many participants as possible.

Have fun with this assignment!

Ps I will do the wrap up for this week's #minimalmonday tomorrow. ___Hi everyone,

Excellent Ian, well done and thanks for putting this up. Couldn't get there, so it's great to see the presentation and questions.
I'll be off to Nancy in Eastern France for a book signing (for the second time in 6 months) :)

This is part of a small series from here.

Well here it is folks Michael Levins new COLOUR work
I have just had a look at all the new images on his site, and they are amazing.
The very muted and almost pastel colours in his new work have a certain monochromatic feel, so a gentle progression into color.

New: Chicago two-day modules

We are very happy to announce that, by popular demand, we are opening the registration to the Chicago Photowalk for two-day modules at half price! We don’t want to let anybody out of this incredible opportunity to meet and shoot in one of the most iconic American cities with Joel, Sharon, Armand, and Julia. We understand that some people don’t have that many days off work, or that people’s pockets are not all equally deep. So we decided to offer two modules: Thursday and Friday, or Saturday and Sunday. Moreover, the modules are 50% off at $825.

What are you waiting for? Act now, there are only a handful of places left! We are positive that these places will go very fast, don’t miss out!
