When craftsmanship turns to magic

Watch as William Gudenrath demonstrates the Reticello technique.
Reticello (Italian, "glass with a small network"), is a type of blown glass made with canes organized in a crisscross pattern to form a fine net, which may contain tiny air traps.

How to forge an axe: Step by step

This video shows how to make an axe by laminating tehnique. It is a short insight in forging methods used by bladesmith John Neeman.

"At spring 2012 I, bladesmith John Neeman, got in an accident. My face and hands were burned. At this tough moment some people from Forestry Forum were with me in their thoughts, supporting me both morally and financially. Thanks to them I was able to recover faster"

"The axe you can see in this video, along with two other axes, is made as thanks to the great people on Forestry Forum. We decided to pay it forward, sending these three tools to administration of the forum for an auction, which aim is to raise funds for maintaining the site."

Beyond the curiosity and fun is Science
Physics, first as low synchronised vibrations as well as low energies  are used with success while brutal force would require a very powerful device.
Then,  prospective archeology is there too as those people are probably using a very ancient technique wich could have been lost in time but might bring an enlighment on antique architectural know-how.

Oh, and yes, of course, the cultural part which relies on a performant art of music incuding rythm and melody... Necessity is the Mother of Invention
 (RIP Frank Zappa)!

Embalmed potato XIX th dynasty  (Séthi II)

As a very rare thing, the potato, which was associated to Tenenet - goddess of beer, was regarded as a powerful remedy against idleness. Only very high ranked people could access to its healing powers.
The potato would be placed on a "tüt" sort of couch, for the patient to keep eyes on it while drinking beer. This could last for days.
Then the potato holding the evil spirit that affected the patient, would be momified and buried.

Making it easier to link your website to your Google+ page

When you link your website to your Google+ page, your recent posts can appear in lots of relevant places across Google. For example: when users search for your brand, an excerpt from a recent Google+ post may appear to the right of search results.

Today we're rolling out an improvement that makes the linking process a lot easier for page owners. In fact: you can complete the process in just a few simple steps:

1) Visit your Google+ page, open its profile, and click 'Edit profile'
2) On the About tab, save your website URL, then click the new button, 'Link website'
3) Follow the instructions for adding a short line of code to your website's homepage, then click 'Test website'

If everything's set up correctly, you'll see a confirmation message. Within... more »

The Lost Little Ball

Susan, this is dedicated to you. Since you could not understand Edith piaf's lyrics, this time we are joining a translation fot Bourvil's song; then we added the translation of Piaf's too. Hope you enjoy!  +Susan Cox

It was just after the war,
In a ballroom that had suffered
On a floor in ruins,
There were these two, so exposed.
They danced among the rubble
In this little ball, what was its name…
What was its name…
What was its name…
What was its name…

(Refrain)
No, I don’t recall
The name of this lost ball
What I remember
Are these two lovers
With eyes for no one but each other.
There was such insouciance
In their moving gestures,
So what does it matter
The name of the lost ball?
No, I don’t recall
The name of this lostball.

Change the World; I Dare You

There's a Buckminster Fuller quote that says it all to me: "You never change things by fighting the existing reality. To change something, build a new model that makes the existing model obsolete."

Ever since I got on social media, since day one, my whole thrust/purpose/goal/intention ... whatever you want to call it ... has been to change the world. Yes, indeedy.

I know that I sound a bit like a self-deluding airhead when I say such things, but I bought completely an idea that was circulated––that to achieve anything, one has to shoot much farther than the target.

I decided to keep everything that I put out into the world as positive as I could muster for that day. That was to stand in the face of everything that was pulling this world down. Bad news; bad attitudes; badbehavior. I don't ... more »
