The letting go.

It's the hardest part... of anything. But sometimes completely necessary. When is letting go the best idea??? 

Letting go: 

1. of toxicity
2. of doing for others what they can do for themselves
3. of hatred
4. of pain
5. of people who are bad for you
(i could go on and on but you're all smart people... you get the idea)

As 38 Special taught me in the mid 80's... Hold on loosely. When you do clutch at things that matter to you, don't be like I'll hug him and squeeze him and pet him and hold him and love him and call him George. 

No one likes a leech. 

Holding on to "things" breeds discontent. Holding onto people too tightly equals squeezing your relationship with a vulcan grip. Holding on to the past keeps you from your "present".

One of the biggest mistakes I see in aspiring public speakers isn’t that they make mistakes, far from it. 

It’s actually that they internalize those mistakes negatively and insist on trying to be perfect at all times.

Never have I learned so much, so quickly from so many people in  my life. I have been moved by so many of your life experiences, spit coffee on my screens because of your humor, blown blue smoke from my ears from some of our debates, but I very much appreciate your interest and support, and I hope to do a better job of engaging with you all in the future. 

I am humbled that so many of you have become personal friends of mine, both online and off; just last night I attended an amazing and wonderful dinner party where 4 of the guests were people that I first met right here in this forum. 

I joined Google+ in July 2011, somewhat on a lark, not really a fan of the state of Social Media at that time. My first months here where a bit rough to say the least.

I used to love my Wonder Woman Underoos as a little girl. I even dressed up as Wonder Woman for Halloween several years in a row. I used to spin in circles until I'd get so dizzy I'd fall... all the while singing the Wonder Woman theme song. 

A badass Amazon Princess with a magic lasso, an invisible airplane, perky breasts, and kick ass wrist bands? 

Not a bad role model. Not bad at all.

As a recovering perfectionist myself, I see how the urge to be a ‘perfect’ speaker does more harm than good to our speaking prospects.

When's the last time you had a date night? 

Not enough alone time = not so much happy time. We all need time as a couple versus simply being maid, cook, bottle washer, moneybags (et cetera) for our munchkins. Setting a time for each other as a couple shows your partner that you still care about... being a couple.

The Vulcan's have a saying, "Only Nixon could go to China."

My understanding about how PRISM works by basic deduction and general concept understanding of the NSA, it's that it was largely a blanket system being used to identify cyber criminals, Chinese hackers and terrorists. The NSA has a long history of being president agnostic.

In response to the McCarthy era, that was congress and the FBI. The NSA was likely uninvolved or only inasmuch as needed. The CIA handles foreign, FBI is domestic and the NSA is... spooky.

Getting back to the point, the keywords here are: Chinese, Cybercriminals (Chinese hackers and Anonymous), National Security (Meaning, protecting you from military grade cyber attacks), and counterterrorism.

This means that by peeling back the name PRISM, you get a perspective that they really aren't spying on everyone.... more »

Sooooo... my wonderful mother-in-law will be flying in from Scotland in a few days. Super excited to see her... the preparation is intense. 

I never understood my mother's obsessive cleaning, when I was a child. Before the cable guy could come in the house, it had to pass the white glove test and be completely sanitized from top to bottom. Okay that's a teensy bit exaggerated... sort of.

She always used to say "We don't have much... but what we DO have we're going to keep nice. A clean home is a happy home." Growing up we started out pretty close to the bottom. It's a testament to my father's hard work that he's become very successful in his lifetime. Even with a rented house and second hand furniture in my early years, I always remembered things smelling good and taking pride in the things that we DID have. Since the beginning of our country... there has been a big brother watching. There are government agencies dedicated to spying ffs. Just like we freaked out as a nation over Monica Lewinsky... when we knew damn well that Kennedy was more of a whore than Clinton EVER was. 

I think people like scandals. Gives us something to collectively bitch about. 

If you think about it... spying on us has always happened. It's just NOW we live in another dimension. The Information age as propagated by the Interwebz. Before the internets, there were phone taps and whatnot. NOW we put all of our information in the cloud... mindlessly thinking that it'll be safe? Really?

Watching this always leaves me in absolute awe. And to think back in 1996 the NASA astronomers pointing the Hubble telescope to a blank spot in the sky by the Big Dipper almost... didn't.

They repeated this "pointing to darkness" in 2004, resulting in this 3D video. 

I mean who would look at the blank spots? NASA did. And I'm ever so glad.
