Pinterest has released a major update to their apps today, one that might easily be underestimated. It didn't even warrant a new version number, as it's just version 2.4 on iPhones, and the key new feature isn't even the first one listed on Pinterest's blog post:

When you're getting creative, you relax your inhibitions.

Stanford professor Tina Seelig discusses one study, jazz musicians were asked to improvise while having their brains monitored via fMRI.

Something harmonic happened: As the artists performed, the parts of the frontal lobe associated with judgment went quiet. This shows that while self-monitoring is often useful--you don't want to say everything that passes through your mind--it can get in the way of new ideas.

"Creative people have apparently mastered the art of turning off this part of their brains to let their ideas flow more smoothly, unleashing their imagination," she writes.

Poacher trampled to death by elephant he was trying to shoot.

"“In the savannas of Zimbabwe, home to some of Africa’s most iconic wildlife, poaching of elephants is at an all-time high. But as their numbers continue to slip lower despite efforts to curb illegal hunting, the elephants themselves may prove to be a poacher’s greatest deterrent.

According to Zimbabwe’s Sunday Mail, the trampled body of an illegal hunter was discovered in Charara National Park, following the arrest of his partner late last month. The report indicates that the deceased poacher, Solomon Manjoro, was attempting to gun down an elephant when it charged and killed him.

"Bees are back in the news this spring, if not back in fields pollinating this summer's crops. The European Union (EU) has announced that it will ban, for two years, the use of neonicotinoids, the much-maligned pesticide group often fingered in honeybee declines. The U.S. hasn't followed suit, though this year a group of beekeepers and environmental and consumer groups sued the EPA for not doing enough to protect bees from the pesticide onslaught.
