Photowalks London39,259Join us on our November Photowalk, the 1st Anniversary Edition! It all started October last year when Helena Martins decided to organised a Photowalk for work colleagues  with the intent of raising money for Action on Hearing Loss. At the same time, there were a few people on G+ wishing to meet up for a Photowalk, so it was only natural for Helena to take the plunge and organise one on G+ The first Photowalks London was a duo effort between Helena Martins and Gerard Charnley, the stage? The very picturesque area of Canary Wharf.  After such success and demand for more, Helena decided to start organise one Photowalk in London, at least, once a month. East London; Bank; Wimbledon, Portobello and Battersea are a few of the areas visited by the group. This anniversary edition will be visiting Camden Town, not only part of the market, but also a few interesting areas less known in this London pocket where the Punk movement started. We would love to see many, many, many people on this edition: the ones that we see almost every month; those who come only once or twice, those you recently joined us for the first time and those who have never come to a Photowalk and always wanted to come along! Let's break our record of 87 Photowalkers and make this edition the biggest G+ Photowalk in London!!!   We'll end up, as usual, in the Pub and this time will be in The Worlds End for a Happy Birthday toast to Photowalks London.Photowalk 1st Anniversary Edition2012-11-24 14:00:0041
Photowalks London39,259*Monopoly Photowalks Part 6 :- The Red Run* Fancy playing our monopoly photowalk game? Over the coming weeks we will be arranging some short evening mini-photowalks around areas of the London Monopoly board. These walks will start at a tube or train station, and end up in a pub or bar, and will be roughly an hour long each. They will be occuring every Thursday evening at starting at 7pm. You will be able to join any of the walks you like, so feel free to pop along to your local one or all if you like. Our sixth Monopoly themed photowalk Is on 13/9/2012 at 7pm starting from ‘The Albion’ pub on New Bridge Street, turning on to Fleet Street, Heading down to The Strand and finally to Trafalgar Square. You can find a map here :- http://goo.gl/j6WjG The aim is to have a bit of fun, and photowalk around some of the areas of London that the main photowalks don’t reach. The monopoly board seemed like the best vehicle for such exploring as it encompasses a variety of interesting locations. A few of the squares are outside central London, but many that near the centre are bunched together. Each event will be announced here on google+,  along a google+ event and a page on photowalkslondon.co.uk with a description of the particular walks including start times and maps. But it is not enough to just walk and take photos right? I mean… we need to play the board game too, so here it is. You will be keeping your own scores, because it is just for fun but here are the values you should be awarding yourself when you put your photos up on G+ :- On each monopoly square :- £100 – For each photo of a street signs or anything with the street name from the square on the monopoly board. £100 – For each photo that match the colour of the square on the monopoly board (i.e. If you photograph Oranges on Vine St, you get the money) £50 - Houses £200 – Hotels On any photowalk through out the game :- £200 – Something related to either Income Tax or Super Tax (this is probably the toughest challenge on the list) £50 - Water Works (maybe a fountain or a lawn sprinkler, use your imagination) £50 – Electricity Works (maybe a junction box or a pylon or a street light maybe) £50 - Free Parking (does this actually exist ANYWHERE in London now?) £50 – Get out of Jail Free card (for any photo of a policeman or car, or a security guard) Player Pieces £50 each for the following iconic pieces (they have changed over the years, but we accept all) :- Wheelbarrow Battleship Sack of money Man on horseback Racecar Locomotive Thimble Howitzer Boot Scottie dog Iron Top hat Chimping bonus points :- £500 Chance - There will be a chimping competition for the monopoly related shots at the end of each walk. The winning shot will be awarded these extra points) £500 Community Chest – A second chimping competition for the best photo of another photowalker will take this money. * prizes are not real money, silly... just for fun!Monopoly Photowalks Part 6 :- The Red Run2012-09-13 19:00:007

The Beluga whale does not seem to be in the best of moods. I don't think I would be either if I was caged up. They call it teasing the kids, does that look like teasing to you? I guess the whales name is Juno according to the description on Youtube.

Need your help!!

I'm helping a friend with a website to bring disabled people to partner with swimming angels, allowing them to participate more on open water swimming events.

The site, very simple, is being done in Wordpress and we just need to find a plugin to allow users to create a profile, search a profile and contact the relevant Angel.

preference to all communications to happen by email - aka off the site

Any ideas? Specially for a free plugin!!

+Julian Davies they're my first attempt at making cufflinks out of Lego mini figures. Sorry if the figures are not as cool as you... But I lack of mini figures.
The process involves more than sticking the cufflinks end, otherwise they would come out at the first "knock"

Now.... You wouldn't look silly with these would you ;)

Done. Here's the photos of the shaving experience. I explained the hairdresser what I was doing and she asked me: Are you sure about this?
No. I said.
But what the heck, it'll grow again.

As you know I'm celebrating my mum's 10th year fight against cancer and one of the things I remember... Is indeed the beautiful long brown hair with locks that my mum had.

Before starting chemo, she was terrified, angry and sad about the sure thing of losing her hair.
Instead of "waiting" for her hair to fall, she headed to the hairdressers and had her hair cut short. Her words to me were... If I'm going to lose my hair, I'm doing on my own terms.

She still suffers. Everyday because of cancer. Sometimes, many times for the last year... I confess... I ask her God "please, take her. Please end her suffering. Enough, yes?" ... more »

But everyday she puts up a fight.

My mum is the most amazing woman I've ever meet. The best mum... The strongest person... The fiercest of Amazons... Today, shaving my hair was something that I needed to do. Because it hurts me to see her pain and it's somehow cathartic.

I'm fundraising for Macmillam Cancer Support... To all mums out there, if you do donate, please leave a message for my mum. I'm visiting her soon in Portugal and will be printing all messages.

Did I go all the way????

Please, do donate! And when you do, could you leave a message for my mum? I'll be showing her all the beautiful messages!

Different days, different times and a new audience!!

o rest for the wicked.
My next challenge is on the 4th of October, when I'll attempting to swim 2k in 30 minutes to celebrate my mum's 10 year fight against cancer. The swim cap is ready!

I'm trying to reach my modest fundraising target next Sunday and if that happens, I'll be shaving my head!!

Only £100 to go!! So please, if you haven't donated before - to one of my many fundraising efforts - please do consider to do it now!!

My mum has never benefited from the splendid work carried out from Macmillam Cancer Support, but there are out there many mums who do... And sadly... Many others who will.

To all our mums!! As a dearest friend said.

Nailed it!!
English Channel Relay done with a panache!

It took our team 18 hrs and 32 minutes, but we did it!! At times it was fun, others quite difficult, but we stick together and conquered the crossing together.

I'm totally hooked! I want more and I'm even more determined to do my Solo in July 2016.

Meanwhile, I'm already the first Portuguese woman to swim the English Channel!!

If the weather holds, we will start swimming Monday at 7am

I'm surprisingly serene.

Facebook Search threat to Google Search? Pleaseeeeee!!!

This is going to work as well as the Facebook hashtag.

The ability to search a group and or page is indeed useful. And it’s there, after all there were others who have quite possibly made the same questions or presented good information worth searching for, but to search a “friends” timeline for something? When most of our status’ updates are as ephemeral as last Sunday’s roast!?

Yeah right!!

This just cracked me up!!!
If only those kids knew the real reason for the Beluga's behaviour.

Beluga Whale Punking Kids at an Aquarium.

The Beluga whale does not seem to be in the best of moods. I don't think I would be either if I was caged up. They call it teasing the kids, does that look like teasing to you? I guess the whales name is Juno according to the description on Youtube.

Re sharing this post... After all.. Different times, different audience!!
Please consider to donate towards a swim for my mum and all mums who died from cancer or who are still fighting hard!
When donating, please leave a message for my mum as I'll be printing the page, translating and sending it to her!!

On the 4th of October I'll be swimming 2k in skins (means no wetsuit) in water likely to be around 10c
I'm doing this challenge in the name of my mum, which celebrates 75 years in 2 weeks time and also 10 years of fighting cancer!

I have a very modest target ... and I only have a bit to achieve it!
Ohhh and did I said that if I get my target by the 14th of September I'll be shaving my hair??!! ___Re sharing this post... After all.. Different times, different audience!!

It feels terrific!!

Today swam 14k having previously swam only 4k in one go.
To say that I'm hugely proud, in absolute awe of what my body achieved today... Is indeed an understatement.

If you're looking for outstanding and inspirational swims, deliver to swimmers with amazing safety and dedication, look no further than any of the Henley Swims!!
