JAMC cowboy hat era will always have a special place in my heart. Right next to all the other JAMC.
P.S. How weird that the still for this isn't actually a still in the video and ISN'T THE JESUS AND MARY CHAIN.

This is old, but...I really need to give credit to Fox for bringing contemporary dance to the masses. If Dancing With the Stars is the People Magazine of reality TV, then So You Think You Can Dance is sometimes the MOMA. (start at 00:23)

Saw Onegin tonight at San Francisco Ballet. Amazing, beautiful, dramatic. Highly recommend! The pas de deux from a dream was especially gorgeous. I got goosebumps!

Right on the heels of the awfulness that is the Steubenville rape and subsequent trial and subsequent victim blaming on social media along with rapist sympathizing in mainstream media like CNN (http://www.newyorker.com/online/blogs/closeread/2013/03/steubenville-rape-malik-richmond-trent-mays.html), comes more victim blaming, this time against a 13 year old girl who was sexually assaulted by two 18 year old men. I can't even...I have no words. FAITH IN HUMANITY OFFICIALLY DESTROYED. THANKS AMERICA

Here's where my nerd mixes with my, uh, indie cred? I was playing The Sims last night and turned on the "Indie" station on my Sim's new stereo, and heard...Lord Huron? Singing in Simlish, no less. Weird alternate version with no-lyrics lyrics.

I give you the daily magic of Hacker News. Today's episode of "I'm so privileged, I can't even see straight":
It would be silly to say we should make sure that people with green eyes are not under-represented in tech but why is it okay to say the same thing regarding skin color?

George Saunders is a genius! I loved CivilWarLand and just finished Tenth of December, and highly recommend both. I had the opportunity to see this amazing writer give a reading and Q&A session at Google just a couple weeks ago. I've never read anyone else as emotionally engaging and simultaneously...well, entertaining.
BTW, the titular (hee) story from his latest book, Tenth of December, is available for free: http://www.newyorker.com/fiction/features/2011/10/31/111031fi_fiction_saunders?currentPage=all

Shared in the College Radio community but deserves cross-posting. I know it's only February, buuuut I'm calling this as the best music video of 2013.
Perhaps NSFW, depending? (PG13: animated nudity)
(If you're going to watch this, you should know that ~3:20 is when it gets amazing. I say this with my own attention span in mind.)

Today the Senate voted to re-authorize the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) by a majority vote of 78-22. All the women in the Senate supported the bill (whew). Naturally, those dissenting 22 were all Republican men, including rising GOP star Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL), who apparently decided it would be more helpful to his career if he opposed a woman-friendly bill that was expected to pass.
Here's the full list of NAY votes, pulled from http://www.senate.gov/legislative/LIS/roll_call_lists/roll_call_vote_cfm.cfm?congress=113&session=1&vote=00019

+The Wall Street Journal, ARE YOU FOR REAL!?
The Onion couldn't top this. Whether it's the sad faces of all these put-upon dejected rich people, or the elderly minority couple who is depressed despite not paying extra taxes (or was that the point?), or the distressed single Asian lady making $230,000 who might not be able to buy that extra designer pantsuit this year, or the "single mother" making $260,000 whose kids presumably have a deadbeat, indigent dad just like any other poor family, or that struggling family of six making $650,000 including $180,000 of pure passive income and wondering how to make ends meet, mockery is almost superfluous.

Just discovered +Songza and I'm obsessed! Bookmarked playlists: Dream Pop Deep Sleep, Indie Make Out, Haunted House (electronica/synthpop e.g. Grimes and Zola Jesus). Plus playlists from blogs like Gorilla vs Bear and Pitchfork, and more that I'm sure I've yet to discover.
I must say though, the playlists for the "Coding" mood don't work for me at all... I'll stick with "Provocative & Evocative Instrumentals" for coding which has bands like Air and M83, and was suggested as work music. Not all software engineers like dubstep!

This type of shaming happened when I was in high school, but back then it was all gossip by word of mouth. Social networking just takes it to a whole new level. Is there anything that can be done about this?
I hope I never have a daughter...

So, I admit, I got a little caught up in internet drama today/yesterday. Sometimes certain comments about certain topics just MAKE ME SO MAD. That said, it's time to step away...and look at cute shit.
