Today the country of Malaysia announced that they are adopting Google Apps (our suite of cloud-based tools that includes Gmail, Docs and Calendar) for 10 million students, teachers and parents. They’ll also be deploying Chromebooks to primary and secondary schools nationwide. These efforts are part of Malaysia’s national education reform, which includes making the web central to its education system (you can read the full plan here: http://goo.gl/dMxdG).

Today I’m excited to welcome +Nik Software to the Google family! We want to help our users create photos they absolutely love, and in our experience Nik does this better than anyone. Check out the examples from some of the world’s greatest photographers, and you’ll see what I mean.

This week we also hit an important milestone--over 400,000,000 people have upgraded to Google+. It was only a year ago that we opened public sign-up, and we couldn’t have imagined that so many people would join in just 12 months. While Google+ is all about creating a better experience across Google, it’s also a destination. And here too, I’m happy to report that we have just crossed 100,000,000 monthly active users on Google+ (plus.google.com and mobile app).

It’s Business Time*

"Coworkers" is one of my most important circles: we create things together, succeed and fail together, and generally spend lots of time together.

Google+ is a key part of our daily routine (and not just 'cause we're busy building it). We hold meetings in hangouts, plan offsites with events, and share updates in the stream -- all of which helps us work better (and play harder).

We think every organization can benefit from these kinds of tools, so today we're previewing some features for Google Apps customers! These include:

- Restricting posts and hangouts to your domain
- Scheduling and joining video calls from Calendar
- Setting company-wide defaults from the Admin Console
- Starting multi-way video calls from Gmail
- Editing docs live inside a hangout

Getting back and digging out post day 2 Keynote yesterday.

Google I/O has been an amazing few days; lots of exciting updates from the Android, Google+, Glass, and Chrome & Apps teams. As I shared yesterday, we want to make it easy for people to live in the cloud seamlessly. The team has been working hard to make Chrome, Drive and our cloud apps available everywhere. 

It's awesome to see Chrome for iOS and Drive for iOS take off in the App Store since yesterday's launch and Chrome for Android move out of beta. I'm also excited that Chromebooks are now rolling out across 100 +Best Buy stores in the US and Dixon's in the UK. Lastly, 5M businesses have now gone Google and are working & living in the cloud. Exciting to see, but lots more work ahead.

Google just introduced brand-new Chromebooks and something we've never offered before - a Chromebox PC for attaching to an existing display. I've been using the new Chromebook for the last few days, wrote this post on it, and am very happy with its speed, weight, and utility. There's no longer a question of sacrificing quality in hardware to live life on the cloud. This new introduction is very cool and exciting.

Love, love, LOVE new Google+ integration into Gmail!

I'm finally getting the chance to use the new integration of Google+ into Gmail.

It seems like a relatively small improvement, but it feels so good to reply to comments from within e-mail.

I used to go back and forth between Gmail and Google+ constantly, but now I just burn through my "Google+ Notifications" folder in Gmail (which I set up with Gmail filters), and respond there.

I'm not sure this is a great reason for Gmail users to start using Google+, but it's definitely a great reason for Google+ users to start using Gmail.

Sharing Google Drive photos with your Google+ circles

Today, +Sundar Pichai introduced Google Drive (goo.gl/Ip7Ii) -- a place where you can create, share, collaborate and keep all of your stuff. In parallel, we’re also rolling out a way to share your Google Drive photos with your circles.

To give it a try, first activate your Google Drive (at drive.google.com) and add some photos. Next:

- Click in the Google+ sharebox to create a new post
- Click the camera icon, then select From Google Drive
- Choose photos from either My Drive or Shared with me (see screenshots)

Once you’ve selected your favorite shots, just pick the circles you want to share with, and you’re done! Enjoy, and please keep the feedback coming!

Google Drive is here, and since it's got paid tiers, you should expect Google to curry favor with you, not just with advertisers. Everybody likes free services, but when they're paid, it's in the company's interest to satisfy the party who's paying.

There’s been a lot of buzz...so I’m excited to officially introduce Google Drive. We have really focused here on letting users create & share with others and this is a natural evolution of Google Docs. It’s not just storage, it’s about helping you live and work in the cloud and making sure your data is seamlessly available everywhere. You can use it across platforms -- Mac, PC, Android, iOS (coming soon) -- and you can use it with many third party applications - we’re working with many developers to expand the Drive ecosystem.

So, between the Loch Ness Monster and Google Drive, looks like you’ll have to keep looking for Nessie.
