Dark Horse Brewing Co.

Louie's Stout.....not sure if that's the exact name., but it's penciled in on the beer menu as that...but it's made with Doughnuts.  

Heavy mouth, a bit boozie with lots of roasted malt.  Both of which are over shadowing any sweetness that was intended to be there.  It's a creamy stout for sure...just wish I could get a bit of those doughnuts to shine through.

Pineridge market in Highland/Milford is excellent. Canopy in Brighton is pretty good as well but pricey.

When we bought this bottle, I didn't know what it tasted like. I figured it would taste like most white beers, but didn't realize the history behind the recipe. This isn't my favorite style, and I didn't really care for this bottle. It was our last offering from Unibroue, and my least favorite from them. Terrible, their Belgian dark strong, is amazing. International callers claiming that your computer is sending error messages
and they want to talk you through the problem while your in front of the computer. What they are really trying to do is get access to your computer and take your card details for payment.
Suggestion: Blow a load whistle down the phone and see if they try it again,

Green Flash Brewing - Double Stout
Black Ale/Imperial Stout

ABV: 8.8% 
Bottle date seemed to say ?/08/13

Black as as night with 3 fingers moca foam that slowly melts away like chocolate ice cream on a temperate day leaving clumps of lacing all around the glass. Smells of roasted malt, dark chocolate, molasses and espresso with a very subtle fruitiness. Flavors that come through strongly are chocolate, coffee,  and molasses of which only the chocolate carries throughout till the end it's like drinking chocolate milk with a bitter cacao nib hit at the end. Other flavors that peek in and out are licorice, hop spice, some random fruit note like raisin maybe.  Kind of sticky on the palate, very creamy almost silky, medium body (kinda light for a double stout) light carbonation and all around very rich.

As a craft beer drinker I know I'm not supposed to like what a macro brewery has produced.  But, to be honest, I kind of liked Alexander Keith's new Hop Series Ales and I like how their teaching their customer base about beer.

Slight update to the pricing in the #Ottawa   #Beer   #Growler  List.  Broadhead has decreased their bottle deposit to $4.00 and increased their fill price to $11.00.  The decrease in the bottle deposit is to coincide with a collaboration on bottle returns in the near future.

Bottle Date: None I could find :(

Pours a beautiful bright slightly hazy liquid sunshine with about 1 1/2 -2 fingers creamy foamy head. Lots of lacing and a huge citrus punch coming off it, grapefruit and lemons and a tinge of pine (some other aromas peak out at slightly warmer temps, catty and grassy) . The flavor is also a knockout punch, first taste I thought I was drinking grapefruit juice with a small hit of spice and some resin in the middle. Lingering grapefruit pith at the end. From the way this one looks and behaves in the glass I really expected a fuller body but it's actually just light of medium, not syrupy or sticky perfectly carbed. VERY refreshing and crisp, easily sessionable! Serious bright point to my day. The bottle art is another level of awesome as well. When Ithi... more »
