Mono-Krone Monday
I found out last week that the old analogue phone system at work will be getting replaced next year .. so I couldn't resist a trip in with the camera to get a few shots.

I have 11
So as the good ship +Chrysta Rae's Photography Scavenger Hunt sails off into the sunset once more, we stand and salute her, and recall the fun she has brought us once again. We think of the 10 words, which made us go places and do things that we shan't forget, and indeed, shan't discuss in public.
Here be the nuggets I coughed up - some serious, a couple silly, some fun, some wild. Some better than I thought, some not so good as I hoped. And one I made with them all in.
Cheers to you all - lets not be strangers, OK?

'Monday, Monday
Can't trust that day'
So did sing the Mamas & The Papas back since oh, before I was born.
But how correct they were. Prophetic, even.

Star Trek then ... better than I thought, but shouldn't reboots like this leave the previous versions alone after the first movie? Way to many in-jokes, and more than just jokes...

Utter chaos.
Life has been utterly chaotic since Thursday for some reason - and that reason is one I don't know - its just everything is fast, changing, crazy, twisting, involving others, needed immediately and time consuming at the same time.
And that doesn't include G+. I haven't had time to dig into the new, chaotic, timeline I'm hearing horror stories about photo uploading, only brief looks at the scavenger winning entries.
This update has taken me 3 attempts over 30 minutes to get done.
Weekends, eh, parents?

They really ought to check with +Chrysta Rae before they do major UI changes like this, don't you think? I mean, there are scavenger hunt reveals underway, we don't need OTHER things to have to think about!

Glancing back, pretended to be being pursued, like a road movie on ice
Since I usually sit in the passenger seat on our commute into work, I get to take shots like this in between playing with the kids. This was a possible entry for the 'Frozen Motion' category in +Chrysta Rae's Photography Scavenger Hunt, the results of which are coming out, one fabulous album per day, at the moment.
Have a tune, a road tune, to sing along while we barrel along...

#AlanShapiroBirthdayStyle
We found this growing in the back garden a couple of weeks back, as we scavenged amongst the new spring growth. I took a snap, did some research, and found out it isn't dangerous (don't want nasty toxic things around with kids!).
Turns out its a black morel. Quite rare, an excellent example of mushroom kind, and apparently, quite delicious :)
These qualities remind you of anyone?
Happy Birthday +Alan Shapiro, thanks for all you do for all of us scavengers!

The sun shine, even into Altens wood
Another happy result of my 10-15 minutes of experimentation that I get, after I get dropped off, and walk through Altens woods to get to work.

A rose, de-rosed
A friend of a friend, who happens to be a pretty good photog (especially of snowboarders), just gave me a ten-ton ego boost, by spending an hour going through my photos on Facebook (a copy of some of what I share here), and 'liked' them all, and commented on many.
He commented 'what would this look like in B&W?' - how could I resist?

Bicycle, bicycle, I want to ride my bicycle, I want to ride my bike...
Weekend! Nice weather! Even got my bike out, and Logan had his best attempt yet on his own bike (which is far, far too small for him now ... but its his birthday soon ...), and Dylan got his first 'backie'. Scary to think we didn't get the bikes out last year at all, due to broken ankles, young Dylan, and crappy summer weather ...

Harmonium
I think +Jason Kowing asked one of his questions, some time ago, about what instrument you would like to play, and why.

Looks like a job for Leucadia Cyclery...
Or
I've got a bike, you can ride it if you like...
A #lyricallyinspired #monochromemonday shot. I've been practicing - every morning, after I get dropped off for work, I get about 15 or 20 minutes to wander around a small wooded area trapped between the industrial area of town I work in, and the main road that brings traffic into it. The place is a mess, littered, uncared for, lots of broken trees, old ropes, and ... a bike. Its a great place to wander around snapping, trying out new things, and I've not yet been disturbed by anyone.

LIstening to Saturday Sun, and hanging with my son on a sunny Satuday
Still got one under the weather wee boy, who I'm trying to persuade to come outside to get some rays ... he's not having it so far!
Its May the 4th, supposedly Star Wars day, but I've pretty much had it with that way, way oversold franchise.
More importantly, is GREEN day in the #roygbiv challenge - I've got one I like from last weekend, but hopefully I'll get a chance to have another go :)
Hope you all have a nice one, and hope your head isn't too sore after those V&T's +Jules Falk Hunter :)

roYELLOWgbiv
If its Friday, it must be time for yellow on +Susan Porter's #roygbiv
And if its yellow flowers, it must be time for +Tamara Pruessner's #floralfriday.
Here's hope you all have a great weekend - our's is off to a dodgy start, with a trip to A&E for a bag head bang for one child (he is OK), and then another call from nursery saying second child has been sick - a homely weekend I think!

His Not-so-Worried Shoes
And I welcome the week with a #lyricallyinspired shot for #shoesmonday .
This is the first pair of special shoes Logan got, super-stiff to help him with his balance and walking/running. They made a really big difference to him, he loved them, and he got so confident in them. So now these ones are worn out, we've got him three new pairs to replace them. We'll keep these ones until the Drs. get a look at how they've worn, which will help them decide if he'll continue to be OK with the shoes, or need leg braces. But, despite the lovely but sad song, these shoes really have made us a little bit less worried.
The shot was staged, at the weekend, the song is a cover version, original by Daniel Johnston, cover by Karen O & The Kids, from the soundtrack to the movie 'Where The WIld Things Are'.

A former religious community, out in the country
A #lyricallyinspired #coloursonfriday from me today.
Taken at the Tomnaverie Stone Circle, in North East Scotland. Possibly my favourite place. Used in ancient times as a religious place, where agricultural deities were worshipped at significant times of the year.
The song is a year 2000 release from probably my favourite electronic music artists Boards Of Canada (who are actually two brothers from Edinburgh). The song, 'In A Beautiful Place Out In The Country', refers to something a lot more recent, but even as a non-religious person, this is a very special place. If you like this track, Google for the BoC 'Record Store Day Incident', and see just how obsessive BoC fans can be, trying to figure out cryptic clues the band are putting around just now - making us all think they may be about to relea... more »

Lunar Eclipses
Image Credit & Copyright: Igor Vin'yaminov
http://apod.nasa.gov/apod/ap130425.html
The dark, inner shadow of planet Earth is called the umbra. Shaped like a cone extending into space, it has a circular cross section and is most easily seen during a lunar eclipse. But the complete cross section is larger than the Moon's angular size in the stages of an eclipse. Still, this thoughtful composite illustrates the full extent of the circular shadow by utilizing images from both partial and total eclipses passing through different parts of the umbra. The images span the years 1997 to 2011, diligently captured with the same optics, from Voronezh, Russia. Along the bottom and top are stages of the partial lunar eclipses from September 2006 and August 2008 respectively. In the rightside bottom image, the Moon is entering the umbra for the total eclipse of... more »

One Very Important Thought
"Now that the show is over, and we have jointly exercised our constitutional rights, we would like to leave you with one very important thought: Some time in the future, you may have the opportunity to serve as a juror in a censorship case or a so-called obscenity case. It would be wise to remember that the same people who would stop you from listening to Boards of Canada may be back next year to complain about a book, or even a TV program. If you can be told what you can see or read, then it follows that you can be told what to say or think. Defend your constitutionally protected rights - no one else will do it for you. thank you."

BoC ... serious?
Well, lets hope ... probably my favourite electronic music group, Board Of Canada, may be dropping typically cryptic hints that their first album since 2005 may be appearing this year.
Worth a read to see what you make of it ... a single 12inch single sold in New York, with 40 seconds of music on it, and a 6 number 'clue'? Another six number 'clue' displayed for all of two frames in a Youtube video? More clues in edits of video descriptions? Its pretty wild stuff.
Half of me loves this kind of puzzle, its a great (and, for this shy band) very apt way of getting a bit of hype. The other half of me, though JUST. WANTS. THE. NEW. ALBUM.
If there is one, and this isn't another hoax (there have been loads of hoxes about a new BoC album in the last few years).

Well, that was not the long weekend I had in mind.
I didn't have any sort of long weekend in mind.
The bugs that have given both kids crazy fever (up to and over 40 degrees at times), the most blocked up noses they have ever had, the nastiest cough they have ever had, sickness, and the inability to sleep for more than 45 minutes, have sorted out an unplanned, unwanted, and unpleasant day off today.
Antibiotics on the go now, so we'll see...
Oh yeah, and I've still not been visited (#nothuntsmack)
Here's hoping!

Oh-oh.
Pride cometh before a fall, yeah?
Bad luck comes in threes, yeah?
I was proud when I saw that photo in that paper, which was published yesterday. Since then, Logan has gotten a really nasty cold (1), my wife's ankle, which she broke badly 13 months ago, has swollen up a lot tonight (2), and I think the washing machine is broken (3).
Oh heck ... I'm on standby as well (when am I NOT on standby, though, eh readers?).
Onwards!

You've probably seen this pheasant before...
I've shared this 'scene' a few times now, and I thought I was done with it, until this week it was picked up as a featured photo in our local paper 'The Deeside Piper'. I admit I did send it to them, when they made a picture plee, but didn't hear back until I saw in the paper today.
Happy Friday, indeed, although that pheasant looks more shocked every time I see him :)

Springtime on 'The Technical Section'
So called, because the road I was on the edge of when I took the 8 shots that make this up, is cycled on by a colleague of mine, and he refers to this several mile stretch as the 'technical section', due to the twisty, turny, hilly nature of it.
This area is south of my home town of Banchory, and its very undeveloped (which is just fine!). This panorama takes in hills near and far, many of the better known Deeside hills included (Kerloch, Clachnaben, Morven, and Scolty to name a few).
Its not a great photo technically - it was handheld and on a very short timescale (I had the kids with me!). But by looking, I know exactly how I'll aim to improve it next time :)
Click and zoom in ... see how many merge lines you can spot :)

Hi everybody!
And welcome to that time of the night!
The time when I know I've had a good idea about doing something, or have to something, or wanted to do something, but can't remember what that something was!
Tune in later, when, on the way to bed, I remember what that thing was, and decide it can wait until tomorrow!
Bye-bye for now!
