So +HIRL Edinburgh was a complete blast and I wanted to share a few more of the photos we took....

This is a picture of the Gemini space capsule built in the 1960s and now lives at the National Museum of Scotland.

Burns Monument, Edinburgh, Scotland

The Burns Monument, built in 1830 by architect Thomas Emilton, is located in Reagent Road, close to the emblematic Calton Hill in Edinburgh.

A quiet start to Edinburgh HIRL today, only to be expected on a Thursday start, but we get trainloads of people tomorrow!

+Fergus Martin, +Grant Martin, +Steven Mcvicar and +Dolidh Young chilled out in Milnes Bar, hungout and had a trip over to the National Gallery of Scotland.

We're looking forward to meeting more of you tomorrow!! With photos!!

OK, only hours away from Edinburgh HIRL kicking off!

I (Dolidh) will be at Milnes Bar on Rose Street at 10:20am (made slightly later because of the train) We'll be on the ground floor! Our little jaunt around Greyfriars/National Gallery will start from 12pm from Milnes Bar.

I'm working on getting a temporary contact number for you guys :D

*The Itinerary So Far...

We want to make it as easy as possible that if people want to go off and do their own thing, that's cool too...

Milnes Bar on Rose Street is going to be our base... +Dolidh Young will be there from just after 10am to meet people through there - there's wifi access from the pub and plenty places to eat around there. The bar actually opens at 10am.

Thurs 12pm: Walk to Greyfriars Kirkyard via Edinburgh Castle (we'll be leading people up to the castle so they can go visit, whilst we head up to Greyfriars... On the way back down from there, stopping at the National Gallery of Scotland (free entry), then back to the pub for more HIRLing action.

I'm absolutely nackered today....

+Steven Mcvicar and I had a mega-successful run-through of where we wanted the Edinburgh photowalk to go for #edinburghhirl  (July 12th-15th 2012) finalised the locations and checked the signals.

It looks like Edinburgh has incredible 3G everywhere we want to photowalk from... so my bandwidth is likely to take a bit of a bashing.

One of the things that's there that won't be there on the HIRL will be the Olympic rings on the Mound... As the Olympic flame is due to pass through soon... So I thought I'd +1 them up and show you guys!

It was really terrific weather today - I hope we get the same kind of weather when we get there in July!

So special thanks goes out to +Moritz Tolxdorff and +Antony Spiteri for their help for making sure the 3G signals were strong by hanging out with me ^_^

*Calling all Scottish folk, people who're visiting Scotland in July and people who want an excuse to visit Scotland!*

In case you didn't hear, #edinburghhirl or Edinburgh HIRL - (a Google+ meetup) will be happening between the 12th and the 15th of July in the capital city of Scotland, Edinburgh.

We'll be having whisky nosing, photo walks, music and wonderfully witty banter and shenanigans with some of G+'s cream of the crop.

So, if you fancy dropping by on any of the days... let me know in the comments and keep your eyes peeled on the +HIRL Edinburgh page!

I'll be there on all the days and conducting the photowalks... I'm thinking two photowalks... one of which could be sunset at Arthur's Seat if I manage to time it right... but that'll require torches and warm clothing for our descent!

In the summer, I'm going to be HIRLing with some folks in Edinburgh 12-15th July! I thought I'd put together a wee FAQ (frequently asked questions) for those questions about HIRLs you might not have asked anyone yet.

So, what exactly is a HIRL?

A HIRL in an acronym (a word formed from the initial letters of other words) for Hangout In Real Life.
I've explained in previous posts that Hangouts on Google+ let you video chat with up to 9 other people, well a HIRL is a meetup in a real place with the real people. If you're a fan of twitter, you might have heard of the twitter version, also known as a tweetup. Some people still call HIRLs HIPs (which stands for Hangout in Person)

We really need to give the hostel heads up (to try to give them the best chance to keep us rooms that we need) and give us the best chance of getting you guys some discounts. I've made this fun little form through Google Docs to gather a couple of details from you that we need. ^_^

So, if you want to pop by, let us know when you expect to be up and if you need help finding accommodation and we can organise activities and find as many offers and vouchers that you guys can use while you're in Edinburgh.

We are trying to secure our accommodation early because accommodation can be very difficult to come by in Edinburgh in the summer and even harder for a large group of people.
