Quick share of this shot taken earlier in the year.
Way too much going on in my life atm to arrange more shoots but with luck and longer days coming...you never know.

Wow, what can I say, thanks to everyone who has wished me a happy birthday. I know it doesn't take long to write a quick message but you went to the trouble of doing so.
In return, have a sneak peek of a picture I took a few weeks ago....:)

Wow, just realised I haven't really been on Google for ages.
Well, for those that know me, a little of what I've been up to.
Got loads of images to post so I'll get them uploaded over the next few days.

playing with composites today.....as you do on a Sunday morning..!
Following the tutorials from +Calvin Hollywood on Kelby Training (Well worth subscribing btw...) and this was an image I took earlier in the year of Abi against a plain backdrop. The wall was one I took years ago and the graffiti is a stock image, not mine.
I found the hardest part is getting the lighting correct. As none of these images was taken with compositing in mind (working with what I have atm), I spent an age getting the background to look right.
So, it may not be a portfolio standard image, but I kind of like it.

Just wanted to share this before and after of Scarlett I took a few months ago.
Have been testing new PS techniques and found a few new ways to do things that I like. Any feedback would be appreciated...:)

Taken last night at Brodsworth Hall, near Doncaster UK. They light up the entire garden for just a couple of weeks a year and last night promised to be the only dry night before it ended. Oh how wrong could I be....it poured. So much so, my camera was drenched (not to mention the wife & daughter..!) Still, got some great shots, this being one of my fave's as it's just so 'different'. Looks odd, the doorway in the sky; however its a sunken garden and looked kinda cool...:)
Thanks for looking...

Just been trawling through the archives and playing with some new processing techniques, its another shot of Abi, a local model taken earlier this year.

Taken in Lincoln, Lincolnshire, UK I believe this chaps name is Phil Gray.
Did a bit of a search for Music Man and came up with this article:
Seems someone stole Mr. Gray's hat!.....well hopefully this one is the original and the guy who stole it did the "right thing".
Anyway, this guy rocks, best busker I have heard in a long long time...

Another day, another image. Taken from a recent visit to Cadwell Park, Lincolnshire, UK, these guys are pro racers on Triumph Daytona 675's from "http://www.smithsracing.co.uk". On a private trackday they provided us with some great entertainment opportunities for some great shots. Thanks Guys, wheelie pics coming soon...:)

OK, yesterday I posted the colour version of this image.
Now, I'm unsure as to which I like the most. I think both have their place but I still personally lean towards this one.

Hannah, my beautiful 14yr old daughter. We was out and about with the cameras when I took this. Also happened to have some lights with me to help fill in the shadows..!

Guess who's been to the races...:)
Track day at Cadwell Park, Lincolnshire, UK. Shame I wasn't riding (between bikes...) but still, was a great day out...best of all, entry is free....:)

A derelict fishing boat, left to rot on the banks of the Humber, North Lincolnshire, UK. Its been there several years already and is a sad ending to a vessel with such history.
The city in the background is Hull.

Scarlett von Rouge, is a Burlesque dancer and performer in the Lincolnshire area. We arranged a shoot last week and came away with some great shots for both our portfolio's. This however is one of my favorites.

OK, last share of this image...promise..!
Final post-processing done for a vintage feel B&W boudoir shot of Abi.
Just love that pose and her eyes.
Anyway, got a Burlesque & Vintage shoot planned for next week...really looking forward to that in the 40's & 50's style. Got real big hopes for that shoot and I'll post some shots as soon as some post processing is done.
Thanks for looking.

Still going through the images I took of Abi yesterday.
Another 'Boudoir' style shot of this stunning young lady.

Hired a studio last night for the first time and was as nervous as heck.
However a stunning local model called Abi was kind enough for volunteer to be shot.
Abi has only just started her modelling career but somehow I suspect she'll go a long long way..!
I wanted to share these shots as firstly I love 'em..! but secondly to give young Abi some exposure on the net. I think she certainly deserves it.

A shot of my amazing wife who kindly agreed to pose for my daughter and myself on a cold evening in the local woods. All post work done in Photoshop.
The main purpose of editing this image was to try out glossing the lips. Its one area I really struggle to get realistic with this seems to be OK. (Comments welcome...!!) Seems the trick is "Less is more".
(Tip: Is the Plastic filter on PS. Just select the mouth, copy, add to new layer then apply the filter. After that, blend it back and reduce the transparency....a lot..!
Thanks for looking.

It’s Hannah again…!
Same place as the last image, just playing with light for different results.
It always amazes me that just moving your light source can make such a big difference.
Of course, it’s been worked on in PS; that’s a given, but this would not have been possible without being more creative with the light source.

Hannah - Another of my now 14yr old daughter Hannah.
Taken this afternoon on a walk, its inside a bird watching hut on a nature reserve in Barrow-upon-Humber, Lincolnshire, UK.
Done some HDR on the background and a little work to bring the colours out a bit but that's about all. Darn, she's looking like her mother (good job she never got my looks really...!)

Taken towards the end of last summer, my wife Lisa.
Single speed light off camera and hand held to the left of the image. Darn, those camera's get heavy after a while holding in one hand..:) Obviously heavily Photoshop processing gone into this but great results from playing with masks and layers.

It's been a great sunny weekend in my corner of the planet and maybe spring is here to stay. Taken last summer, this view of the Humber in North Lincolnshire, UK reminds me that in a few weeks, those lovely warm evening walks will be enjoyable again. Have a great day...:)

Best job in the world...?
Without a doubt..!
This is the Royal Air Force fighter pilots at play in the skies above North Lincolnshire, UK, last Monday morning.
Can there really be a better way of shaking that Monday morning feeling than doing high speed circles.
Maybe in another life I can do that...or do I want to be a rock star...mmmm.

A friend lent me a studio light and my wife kindly agreed to pose for me for an evening. So, armed with lots +Frank Doorhof inspiration but only a little of his skill, I turned my kitchen into a make shift studio and here is the result, the first of many photo's I'll be posting throughout the week as time permits.
It was my first real attempt with lighting and although I certainly have a long way to go, I'm more than happy with the result.
My wife, +Lisa Armstrong even agreed to let me buy some lighting, she just never committed to a time scale..! Ah well....

Taken last summer, this is my Daughter Hannah.
She is only 13 and this shot was totally un-posed. It was a simple snapshot of her walking towards me.
Its quite low resolution (my old camera..!) and cropped, edited and 'magik-a-fied' in Photoshop but Hannah loves the result and I suspect will be her new facebook profile picture, for the next few days anyway.

I'm reposting this because where I live it's been cloudy, rainy, windy and cold.
This reminds me of those warm evenings only a few weeks ago.

First attempt at a location shoot.
I persuaded my beautiful wife Lisa to pose and had a blast.
My daughter +Hannah Armstrong managed to totally "out do" me by taking some amazing shots but still, I'm happy with what I got.
Taken on a Nikon D7000 with a single strobe hand held to the side.

Brigg - North Lincolnshire, UK.
Taken last night around 21:00, there was quite a few people around, hopping from bar to bar. Luckily, x3 long exposures 'eliminated' them...:)
This is the Market Square in Brigg, the centre so to speak.!
x3 Shot HDR, merged in Photomatix and quite a bit of post work done in CS5 to bring out the blacks.

Thought I'd share a couple of shots taken last weekend on Bonfire Night. It's an English thing where once a year we congregate in a muddy field on a cold night and light great big bonfires and set off lots of fireworks.
These were taken in the small village of Winterton, Lincolnshire, UK.
They also has a small fair with some rides and you could buy burgers and candy floss.
For those of us lucky enough to shoot with a Nikon D7000, all I can say is I was totally blown away with the quality of the shots in such poor light (read none..!) This is a fantastic camera and I've had it nearly a month now and totally fallen in love with it.
No HDR's here today, sorry but none of these have had any photshop with the exception of tweaking the vibrance on the firework shots and a little cropping.
Oh finally, if teh last shot gives you a headache or makes your eyes cross, not my... more »

Hull from the Humber - I've taken quite a few shots of the Humber Bridge in the last few months but never any from the bridge.
Taken whilst Hull Fair was in town, its an early evening shot with a very low full moon.
Taking shots from a busy bridge was a lot harder than I first anticipated. It moves...a lot..!
This is a 20 second exposure and I found I had to time the shots when there was no traffic coming across, quite hard on a busy evening. Moving to the centre helped a bit.
I've cropped this to 3200x1800, ideal for a desktop background. Feel free to use if you like.

Last one of the day from my day out to Lincoln Cathedral, UK. promise..!
What do people think..? Personally, I think its a bit 'busy' but friends and family who have seen it like it that way. Not sure myself and really can't decide. I took this a week ago and was about to assign it to the folder I only use on a rainy day..!
Anyway, here it is in all its wonderful colour.

Another image of Lincoln Cathedral, UK.
This was taken around lunchtime on the 'last day of our summer' before the sky turned white with heavy cloud. Comments and critique welcomed. Thanks.

Taken less than an hour ago, my first attempt at moon photography.
Its a bit cloudy here at, but really wanted to do this.
Took about 35 shots and this is the best so far.
Nikon D7000, 70-300mm Sigma lens at 300mm, F5.6, ISO 1600, 1/25th sec.
I under exposed by almost 3 stops but had to enhance it by about 2/3rds in CS5.
I'll have another go on a clearer night but any tips, feedback or critism is welcome and appreciated.

Well, Saturday's Photo Walk in Lincoln UK was such a blast, I went back again today.!
I know I can't enter today's shot in the competition, that's not the point. Point is, its such a magnificent place and tripod friendly to boot..!!
I spent nearly three hours wandering around holding a 5ft tripod with camera hanging off the end and was chatting to the staff who were ever so friendly. Indeed when I asked they replied that as long as I'm not a professional (ie making money), it wasn't a problem. Nice to see common sense can be applied. (not quite sure how you'd shoot a 30 sec exposure without one...!)
I did ask if they ever turned the lights up full and they replied "only for the BBC sir". I replied "so if I was to say I'm from the BBC...?" to which they responded "in that case sir, you're a professional and can't use a tripod in... more »

From our PhotoWalk in Lincoln, UK.
Many thanks to +Richard Broom for organising a great day. Location was amazing and the weather was great (last day of summer...? Probably..!)
Anyway, here is my best shot of the day, Lincoln Cathedral, a most beautiful place to photograph (OK, not too sure about the plastic chairs and the off centre light..!).
x3 shot HDR without a cable release as I somehow managed to break it (Just don't ask..!)
Thanks again to Richard and everyone else who attended the Lincoln UK Photowalk.

Latest HDR of the Mausoleum in Great Limber, North Lincolnshire, UK.
Unfortunately, there is no way inside the fence but I suppose it is a somewhat private place for some family.
I stopped off here on the way home from work last week, not long before sunset.
I'd spotted this on Google Maps and its only about 15 miles from my house..! (Only lived here 5 years lol..!)
Moral of the story, check what's around you, you just never know....!

Taken from this afternoons family photo walk in the fair town of Brigg, North Lincolnshire, UK.
First attempt in Photoshop and it crashed (more steam needed in the computer..!) however second time lucky.
Seconds after this the rain started and hasn't really stopped since.:)

Taken a couple of nights ago, The Humber Bridge, in North Lincolnshire, UK.
As you can see, the reflections are amazing if you get the timing right.
