Ron Paul said that "our problem isn't with people who are trying to tell us the truth about what's happening"..."I'm worried about somebody in our government might kill him with a Cruise missile or a drone missile," Paul said. "I mean we live in a bad time where American citizens don't even have rights and that they can be killed, but the gentleman is trying to tell the truth about what's going on."
"What kind of penalty for those individuals who just take the Fourth Amendment and destroy it? What do we think about people who assassinate American citizens without trials and assume that that's the law of the land? That's where our problem is."

Just weeks after receiving their diplomas, college graduates are struggling to find jobs to help repay student loans. In Vermont, a typical student has racked up $28,000 in debts after four years in college. Compounding the problem, federal student loan rates are set to double on July 1.
Sen. Bernie Sanders is drafting legislation that would reform how students pay for higher education. He also is working with Sen. Elizabeth Warren, who introduced legislation that would ensure students are offered the same loan rates the Fed gives big banks on Wall Street: 0.75 percent.
Watch Sen. Sanders discuss student debt here: http://youtu.be/sJbOXfuuJCA

"We are over 40 Princeton University students participating in a public expression of solidarity with Palestine.
For more, visit www.icomeoutforpalestine.tumblr.com
In order to ensure peace and justice in the Middle East, it is necessary that Palestinians be afforded their universal human rights. The phrase "coming out" which originated in the LGBT community has been used in a variety of contexts to describe the self-disclosure of a person's potentially shameful identity or beliefs. In the political climate of the United States, expressing sympathy with Palestinians can be the cause of this kind of stigma. We hope to change that on Princeton's campus.
We are "coming out" for Palestine in a public affirmation of solidarity, expressing our commitment to the implementation of the following three actions:

Wilmar International is developing palm oil plantations in biodiverse islands in Lake Victoria, Uganda. The first phase of the project finished in 2011. The second phase is currently going ahead, expanding palm oil plantations to several other islands. The project is being promoted as a poverty-reducing endeavour, yet it is causing displacement, food insecurity and deforestation. Read more at http://bit.ly/118uVa3

“If you wanted to live, you left”
Today is Nakba Day, the day on which Palestinians mourn the loss of their homeland in 1948. 65 years ago, in May of 1948, Ghatheyya Mifleh al-Khawalda was a carefree 15-year-old girl who lived with her mother and sister in the village of al-Qastina in Mandatory Palestine, when they were forced, along with the rest of their village, to flee in the face of imminent threat from Jewish militias. For some time, the people of al-Qastina had received word of terrible attacks against other villages nearby, in which many had died. Fearing a similar fate, they left their home, and would never return to live there again. They became victims of what is referred to as the Nakba, meaning ‘catastrophe’, the mass forced displacement of Palestinians from their homes in order to make way for citizens of the Jewish State of Israel which would be established soon afterwa... more »

I guess the embarrassment of having your nuclear plant's security breached is not enough; now you have to hand down the most outrageous of sentences to prove your insecurity to all the world. An embarrassment to all of us now in the U.S.

This story will warm you better than a coffee in a cold winter day:
"We enter a little coffeehouse with a friend of mine and give our order. While we're approaching our table two people come in and they go to the counter -
'Five coffees, please. Two of them for us and three suspended'
They pay for their order, take the two and leave. I ask my friend:
'What are those 'suspended' coffees ?'
'Wait for it and you will see'
Some more people enter. Two girls ask for one coffee each, pay and go. The next order was for seven coffees and it was made by three lawyers - three for them and four 'suspended'. While I still wonder what's the deal with those 'suspended' coffees I enjoy the sunny weather and the beautiful view towards the square in front of the café. Suddenly a man dressed in shabby clothes who looks like a beggar ... more »

A post-vote analysis by Oil Change International, in fact, revealed that supporters of the amendment "received 3.5 times more in campaign contributions from fossil fuel interests" than those who voted against it. In total, the researchers found that supporters took an average of $499,648 from the industry before voting for the pipeline, for a total of $30,978,153.

It's a sad case for those folks who think this about other human beings.
Its entirely different that we ALLOW our government to send more then 8 BILLION dollars, and a slew of artillery to support the Israel military yearly. If only that money would be used to feed and educate our civilians and thiers, we could get our bloody hands out of this horrible pot, and we would all be better off.

It began in January. At first, there were only a few. But as the weeks went on, more sea lion pups washed ashore. The dehydrated, emaciated pups showed up on Southern California’s beaches, tucked under trucks and lifeguard towers. One was found huddled in a flower pot.
In late January, scientists surveying Channel Island sea lion rookeries reported something worrying: Pups out there were in bad shape. By early February, regional marine mammal rescue centers were concerned.
The strandings hadn’t stopped. Instead, the pace was picking up.
Now, hundreds of these little animals have been admitted to rescue centers between Santa Barbara and San Diego. For a non-El Niño year, the numbers are much too high, too early. Something is going badly wrong offshore, and no one knows what it is yet.

"The researchers compared the chemical exposures of 10 families, half of whom were given written instructions on how to reduce phthalate and BPA exposures.... The other families received a five-day catered diet of local, fresh, organic food that was not prepared, cooked or stored in plastic containers.
When the researchers tested the participants' urinary concentrations of metabolites for phthalates and BPA, they got surprising results. The researchers expected the levels of the metabolities to decrease in those adults and children eating the catered diet.
Instead, the opposite happened. The urinary concentration for phthalates were 100-fold higher than the those levels found in the majority of the general population. "

According to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, it would cost us $20 billion to end homelessness in America (see bottom left vertical bar). Granted, we can all agree that $20 billion is a lot of scratch. But, if Americans are going to spend the same amount on holiday decorations, and THREE TIMES that amount on tax write-offs for corporate meals and entertainment, well, maybe the issue isn’t the money it’ll take to solve homelessness, but our collective will to tackle it.

Front page of Maariv newspaper, picture of a Palestinian woman assaulted by Israelis in a bus station as the security officer looks on and smiles. This is what occupation and discrimination do... See it, study it, understand that this is not an exception but a loud, shameful example of the indignity that is daily life of a Palestinian under Israel's occupation. Following is Google's translation of the Hebrew caption, as it appeared in the webiste:
"The woman stood at the station in Kiryat Moshe capital, suddenly several young women passing by began beat her and remove her head covering. Eyewitness told the nrg: "Young people were drunk and light rail security officer watched the incident with a smile and did not intervene" (Yossi me)" nrg.co.il
