It is right Fred Goodwin has lost his knighthood but it is only the start of the change we need to see.

We need to change the bonus culture and we need to change the rules so we see real responsibility across the board.

As I said in my conference speech we should not have given Fred Goodwin a knighthood but this should not be about individuals, it is about taking the right steps now to create a more responsible capitalism.

Stephen Hester has done the right thing.

It is a shame that a feeble, out of touch David Cameron did not realise he should do the right thing and stand up for the interests of the British people.

Labour was right to seek a parliamentary vote on this so that the people's voice could be heard. But the debate about fair executive pay and responsible capitalism is only just beginning. We need a government that will tax bankers bonuses and bring responsibility to the boardroom.

Nick Clegg has finally woken up to the problems facing the squeezed middle, but who squeezed them? This Government.

They’ve put up VAT, they are cutting tax credits, letting energy firms rip people off on their bills and allowing train companies to rip people off on fares.

I don’t think people will trust Nick Clegg or this Government to help the squeezed middle.
