Incredible talk on the state of cinema by Steven Soderbergh. Hits many of the reasons Hollywood is stuck in a perpetual remake/sequel loop and why independent films are suffering for it. Also a great lesson on the economics of the film industry.

Last night I saw Kishi Bashi peform at The Great American Music Hall in San Francisco. To say he is talented is a huge understatement ... He's a beat-boxing, violin-plucking, loop-making savant . Though it's hard to capture the bliss of being enveloped by the tranquilizing melodies at Great American, I recorded a few videos that you may want to check out :)

It's cool to finally see the revised Dolores Park Rehabilitation Plan this week. The city was supposed to show it last August but delayed for an 11-month environmental review.

Downloading all photos from an event

One of my favorite parts about Google+ Events is how it puts everyone's event photos into a single, shared album. Many of you have asked for the option to download all of these photos, all at once, and today we're excited to launch precisely this feature!

Simply visit your event page on the desktop, click 'Actions,' then click 'Download event photos.' And voila. Let us know what you think in the comments.

A few months ago, my friend +Aaron Perry-Zucker and I spent a few days working on an entry for the Health Design Challenge. The goal of the challenge was to re-imagine patient health records based on the existing Blue Button records used today. 

We are honored to be chosen as one of the 21 entrants (out of the 230+ who responded) for "inspiring the judges and challenging the status quo." Our work will be showcased in a gallery in DC later this year.

Been anticipating Guillermo del Toro's latest, Pacific Rim:

Some pretty great documentaries didn't make the shortlist for the Oscars this year including one of my favorites, Jiro Dreams of Sushi.

Meanwhile, the field for Best Picture nominees has opened up to ~10 in the interest of gaining more viewership on awards night. Though I'm a longtime viewer of the Academy Awards, I've become more and more disillusioned by their policies. Instead, I'm investing more time in lesser known but more thoughtful award ceremonies like IFP's Gotham Awards and The Spirit Awards

+Nate Silver's incredible election model wasn't the only big winner for data this week. Apparently, +Barack Obama's camp took huge strides in collecting, analyzing, and using data during their campaign. 

• The campaign created a single massive system that could merge the information collected from pollsters, fundraisers, field workers and consumer databases as well as social-media and mobile contacts with the main Democratic voter files in the swing states.

•The database allowed them to run tests predicting which types of people would be persuaded by certain kinds of appeals. Call lists in field offices, for instance, didn't just list names and numbers; they also ranked names in order of their persuadability, with the campaign's most important priorities first
