The FB3X Drabble Cascade runs all week from Tues-Tues and the lists for previous cascades remain open, so you can add a story to those as well, if you like :).
So come along and be inspired in exactly 100 words (it's an interesting linguistic challenge to sculpt sentences to make exactly 100), or if you fancy a freer format, then write us a flash fiction (< 500 words) inspired by our word of the week.
This week's word is 'cold'

An interesting lesson in scheming villainy!
I've never written a villain as cunning as these, but I have one in an upcoming NA series, so I need to take notes. :)

I feel rather old - someone I work with got a joke through their email about the Sinclair c5 and they didn't know what one of those was.

This is my latest piece of fanart. It's for the Let's Draw Sherlock challenge over on Tumblr. The idea is to reinterpret a famous work and I chose Galatea of the Spheres by Dali. #Sherlock #Dali #Fanart

Having joined in a few blog hops now, I thought I'd share some initial conclusions I've come to in my short experience of them.

After the WTF? of turning on Google+ a couple of days ago, I have settled into the new layout - I've reduced my view to one column so I can scan the posts easily and I have discovered the joys of the L keyboard shortcut which means I don't have to keep clicking that little blue button to renew the stream, so with that and the J forward and K backward keys of old, my change-panic has subsided :D
The 2 column view was too much like those big non-fiction books that have fact boxes in them, but the paragraph in the main text runs over the page and I can never decide which one to read first, do I flip over the page and finish the paragraph, and then come back, or do I read the fact box before I turn and lose the flow of the main text - it can be very vexing! ;P

It's the last day of May Monster Madness, so today I decided to look at monsters from a writer's perspective and talk about what I think about when creating a monster.

FB3X's flash fiction entry for this week's Drabble Cascade, inspired by the word 'eyes', is called Only One Harry: not quite a puppy, but this werewolf's got the puppy dog eyes down!

When science fact and science fiction come close together, they can make even more frightening monsters - thus my subject today in May Monster Madness :)

Monsters don't have to be ugly, it can be actions that make someone demonic, so here's my take on monsters with beautiful faces for May Monster Madness.

Today on the May Monster Madness Blog Hop, I'm focusing on loveable monsters, the ugly, or scary ones you end up just wanting to give a hug :)

Elle Casey is doing a huge indie give away. There are over 190 titles on the list and 1500+ copies to be given away.
All the books are YA or NA books, in a whole range of genres.
Check out and maybe you'll find some cool new authors.

My sis +Natasha Duncan-Drake is also doing May Monster Madness this week and she picked a subject that gives me the shivers - not so much under the bed as the monster in the bed!

I couldn't do May Monster Madness and not talk about one of my favourite monsters, Jennette Humphrey, The Woman In Black. :)

I just joined The May Monster Madness Blog Hop, which is a great way to share thoughts about monsters and horror, but for those of us writing horror, it's also a good way to plug our books and our author blogs. It's a small hop at the moment, 49 members at the last count, so plenty of chances to check out lots of the blogs and for you to be visited, and it goes on for 7 days, with the sign up list remaining open until it ends, so come along and join in :)

I finally got to see Quartet, a movie I had been anticipating with a smile, because of the cast and the premise...however, here's what I thought about it after seeing it.

I'm currently on my semi-recumbent bike exercise bike and I'm late in my routine this morning I'm usually up at 6am for 45 mins on the bike, then shower, then out of the door, but yesterday was a very long day full of meetings, so I slept in today (okay, so for a little longer than I have planned, but hey, I must have been tired).
However, I have found the downside to not exercising earlier in the morning - it is much warmer now! My house doesn't come with air conditioning!
The weather forecaster said strong winds and buckets of rain (well buckets is my technical term, not hers) - I think we must be in the calm before the storm, because the sun is out and there's not a breath of wind.

FB3X's Drabble for the Drabble Cascade 9 - Friend's First - finding the right words to tell someone you love them.

2013-05-07 17:31:20 (0 comments, 0 reshares, 0 +1s)
Our word of the week is 'friend' in the Drabble Cascade and remember we accept drabbles of exactly 100 words or flash fiction up to 500 words for anyone who would like to take part. You can even write short meta if you like or a poem, as long as it is inspired by this week's word. Then just add your post to the list.
All details are in this post as well as the list of this week's entries so far.

This is a fabulous article, discussing materialism, as in the belief that everything has to have come out of matter according to fixed physical laws vs the idea that maybe it isn't, and maybe those rules aren't as fixed as modern thought thinks they are.
Whichever side of the debate you're on, if indeed there is even a side, the reason I liked it is that it talks about Walter de la Mare, one of my fav authors and his great technique of getting readers to wonder about the strange and unusual without offering an explanation. The guy could conjure up strangeness in just a handful of words. This isn't the example in the article (which is also excellent), but this is my fav WdlM piece, it was one of the first pieces of literature I was forced to read at school that said something to me and it does that from the very first line. Eerie and otherworldly and an atmosphere that I would ... more »

A to Z Blogging Challenge is over. I am happy I finished it, I'm a little sad (but maybe also relieved) it's done. These are my thoughts about the whole manic month. :)

FB3X Drabble Cascade 8 - word of the week is 'summer' - plus we have a new sandpit for you to play in.
Well, it's not quite Summer yet, but do you have any summery thoughts for us?
I can't believe we've been doing this eight weeks already :) but this week we're mixing it up a bit, we're adding to the writing categories: as well as being inspired in exactly 100 words, for those of you who prefer a longer format, we're opening the cascade up to flash fiction, which we're defining as anything under 500 words.
So, come on, be inspired :D

well, that #drwho was a hiding to nothing!
I will say no more since my reason for not liking it would give away too much 'plot' (well, if you can call it plot, it felt more like a premise to me, where somebody said, ah, bugger, we've got one more episode to fill this series, who's got an idea).

OMG - I just bit the bullet, finally, and joined Tumblr. I only meant to set up the account and maybe follow a few blogs that post pictures of stuff I like, but that was an hour ago! There's no depth, it's all about the pretty, but boy is there plenty of pretty! ;P

New Book Release: THE END OF THE JOURNEY (The Hidden War 1)
by Sophie Duncan, is now available on Amazon for just $1.50/£1.01/EUR1.18.
The Hidden War has been raging unseen my normal eyes for generations and Zac Kithrall, demon-seer, and Damon Wulfres, demon-raiser, have grown up on opposite sides of it.
Zac knows these truths, but when he finds himself mostly helpless and under Damon's control, he can't remember why he trusts his enemy, or why they are running from both sides in the war. Weak, and fighting a raging power that is threatening to tear him apart from the inside, Zac is forced to rely on Damon, friend or foe, and, together, they face a race against time to prevent Armageddon.
The End Of The Journey is the first story in The Hidden War Series.
The Hidden War is a YA Contemporary Fantasy containing a male/male romance.
