Does anybody have an example of an online forum/community where anybody who posts gains the ability to delete/moderate comments posted to his own posts? Like, if I post something, then I gain the ability to delete any comment followups to my post.

Seems to be an interesting-if-dangerous idea but I'm drawing a blank on anybody (besides Facebook) who does this.

Weird user interface-ish question...

Say you have an interface of blocks, where only one block can be selected at a time and you move the selection with the up/down/left/right arrow keys. See my image below. In it, box #5 is currently selected. If you hit left, you're in box 4; if you hit up from 5, you're in 2; if you hit right from 5, you're in 6; if you hit down from 5, you're in 8.

The question is, what happens when the lines are ambiguous? For example:

* If I'm in box 10 and I go down, where should I end up? The middle ("favor the center," 13)? The left ("favor the left," 11)? Something else?

* If the rule is "favor the left" and I'm in 18 and I go up, should I end up in 13 even though the width of 13 isn't wholly encapsulated in 18?

* If I'm in 18 and I go down, should it favor 19... more »

Things you could do to improve diversity in the Python community. (Quoting without permission from a thoughtful post on the Python diversity list; s/Python/Your project/ to suit your taste.)


- At the next Python event you are at, make a point to talk to someone diverse or new.
- Before going to your next Python event, email/call/contact someone diverse from the community and encourage them to meet you there.
- Encourage diverse non-programmers you know to come to Python for beginners events.
- Sit down with a diverse non-programmer and teach them the basics of Python.
- Recommend a diverse Python programmer for a job (even if they already have one).

So far, Google Plus hasn't solved the biggest frustration I've had with Twitter/Facebook.

Sometimes I post music stuff, sometimes I post Python/Django stuff, sometimes I post journalism stuff, sometimes I post random fun links. The problem is that the Venn diagram of people who care about my take on all those things is probably very limited. Some people just want music, some people just want journalism stuff, some people just want programming stuff. It leads to a lot of anxiety on my part when I'm deciding to post something -- "Do I really want to spam the people who know me through Python/Django whenever I post a new YouTube guitar video?"

It works the other way, too. There are a ton of people whom I'd love to subscribe to for technology insights but not their posts about politics, vacation photos, etc.
