Fun London Fact!

After 100 years, the Royal Horticultural Society has lifted its ban on garden gnomes at the Chelsea Flower Show.

To celebrate the 100th birthday of the RHS, 100 gnomes painted by celebrities including Elton John (pictured in the middle, below) and Judi Dench will be auctioned off for charity.

The State Opening of Parliament is concluding as I write. Is this spectacular annual event essential to our country (including benefits to tourism) or is it an archaic tradition irrelevant to 2013 ? http://bbc.in/18toiGX

Coffee vs Tea — time to decide!

Last night, Google+ Local reviewers decided once and for all which hot drink  ruled them all. Taylor St. Baristas (http://goo.gl/u5h45) demonstrated the art of cupping and even converted a few of the group to decaff. While Postcard Teas (http://goo.gl/v4HGj) won the battle for tea with chai and a green tea matcha ice cream. Check out the rest of the pictures from last night's event: http://goo.gl/iIZJI

Did you know that we can also arrange suitable vehicles to bring you here from London's airports ?  It can be economic too - an Economy MPV (4-6 passengers) from London Heathrow to us is GBP 70.00.  4 Single Fares on the Heathrow Express to Paddington costs GBP 80.00 and you still have to get to South Kensington separately.  E-mail us on stay@harrington-court.com to arrange this.

The day thought to be William Shakespeare's birthday (he'll be 449) is 23rd April - also St. George's Day. His birth is not actually recorded but he was baptised on 26th April 1564. It's great time to visit Shakespeare's Globe Theatre - a faithful reconstruction of the original on London's Bankside. http://bit.ly/XSQSzh  What will you be doing to celebrate ?

If you can't get to see The Great Bed of Ware on it's current stay at Ware Museum, the good news is that it is normally on display at the Victoria & Albert Museum - 2-3 minutes from us. Built in 1580, the bed was originally in the White Horse Inn in Ware. "Great" is not an overstatement - it is big enough to sleep 15 people at a time. Would you share a bed with 14 other people ?
