Project 52 B&W
Week 14: Transportation
#P52BW13 | +Project 52 B&W
Curated by +Tisha Craw , +David Bowden , & +Susan Porter
This week I decided to pan a moving object. It's something I've always wanted to do but, never really got round to it. It's harder than I thought, I must admit.
I hiked a bit, panning horses and trains - then ended up taking pictures of automobiles travelling over River Aire (Apperley Bridge). The success rate was pathetic - I found it really hard to figure out if I was going too fast or too slow - and in some shots I accidentally moved the camera up and/or down as well.
I'm going to force myself on a hike tomorrow. It did feel quite good to venture out with the camera again.
Hope you are all well guys; I hope to be back before too long :-)))

Project 52 B&W
Week 13: Look Up
#P52BW13 | +Project 52 B&W
Curated by +Tisha Craw , +David Bowden , & +Susan Porter
When everything else fails, there's always the attic window :-) I thought this would be a 10 - 15 minute job, but I had to wait almost two hours before a few birds came along. I got 3-4 images that came out OK, this is the one I liked best.
Let it be known that the window has now been cleaned, and the frame will be painted after the weekend. The rich (disgusting) textures in this shot were a bit of a wake up call :-)
Anyway - the mojo is still missing and I'm staying away from Google Plus until it returns, only taking shots for this particular project. Rude, I know, but something I feel I need to do.

Project 52 B&W
Week 12: Uneven
#P52BW13 | +Project 52 B&W
Curated by +Tisha Craw , +David Bowden , & +Susan Porter
I'm a day late.... but since I've posted all other shots on time, I guess this would be "uneven" behaviour and, therefore, allowed under this specific theme?
My excuse is a fractured rib - breathing is painful enough, let alone lifting a camera up the the face! Not that I'm complaining - Castro was neutered yesterday, so he's the one really suffering at the moment.
The shot was taken and processed yesterday... I was hoping I'd feel good enough to create something better today, but no such luck. The image shows a few of the "so-called" 90 degree corners in my house. They may look even - but they are all very uneven (you'll just have to take my word for that!!).
Off to bed now.... more »

Week 11: Old
#P52BW13 | +Project 52 B&W
Curated by +Tisha Craw , +David Bowden , & +Susan Porter
I've spent the day in the Lake District, trying to rekindle my interest in photography. I've been on a bit of a downward spiral for the past few weeks - not really felt any enjoyment in taking, processing or looking at pictures.
Sacrilegious, isn't it?
Luckily I found this gorgeous (in my view) tree on my travels, as I was all prepared to write a letter to the curators asking to be let off this week :-)
Hope you are all well and have a wonderful weekend!

Week 10: Reflecting
#P52BW13 | +Project 52 B&W
Curated by +Tisha Craw , +David Bowden , & +Susan Porter
I've spent more time shooting for this theme than all the other ones combined. I've moved furniture around in most of the rooms in the house, I went for a walk with a huge mirror and I've curled up in the sofa a few times in complete despair :-)
In the end, I went for simplicity. Kitchen table, a black sheet, a bit of Plexiglas, a work-light, a teacup and a brilliant actor (even if I say so myself).

Castro Klein
I've created a new album, just for the "model" shots featuring Castro :-) I think the theme is pretty obvious.... get Castro to sit in various places and take a picture. I feel it might be quite interesting as the album grows.
The ultimate goal is - obviously - to teach Castro how to pose properly in genuine Calvin Klein underwear :-)))

Buster
Buster and his owner, near Forster Square Railway Station. His owner (we never really got round to exchanging names) is a lovely young man, who wrote down some instructions for me to get to a certain derelict area in Bradford. I've not been yet (waiting to have the car MOT'd), but judging from his description it's probably quite good.
If I get some decent shots, I just might bring Buster a big bone, next time I pass :-)

Bewildered
I went to Bradford today and took a few street shots, using the K-1000. Apart from the time it took to focus manually, I really liked using a film camera. Perhaps because I knew I'd not be able to show any pictures on request :-)
One other downside..... when you take your film to Bradford Camera Exchange to be developed (as I had to do, due to not having C-41 liquids at home), you have to walk past their gorgeous display of vintage cameras and lenses - craving for every single item :-)

Also - a very Happy Birthday to +John G Moore - not sure he'd appreciate me calling him a wonderful flower, so I won't (but he is :-)))
One question for UK users of Google Plus. Do you see birthday announcements on google.co.uk? I don't - and the only way to see them, is to do a "search with image" on Google - which brings me to the .com site. There, I can see the announcements. Anyone (in the UK) having that problem?

My Name is Mud
Here's one of many selfies I took on Friday - whilst shooting for the "hands" theme (Project 52 B&W). I stocked up on facial mud recently, but sadly I'm not perfectly happy with the product. In previous "mud sessions" I've used mud which turns grey when it dries - and breaks into wrinkles beautifully. It adds years to the skin, in a realistic way.
The mud I used on Friday is for women (not sure if that matters). It turns light blue and has a softer texture, which I don't like as much.
The computers?
Done. Dusted. All working as supposed to and the Kindle Fire HD has been rooted..... and now works beautifully with Google Plus installed! Now to wait for a good ROM to change it completely into a proper Android device.

Again I apologize for my lack of interaction lately. I've sorted out the computers, but I got completely stuck whilst trying to root a Kindle Fire HD (a tablet I do not recommend to anyone who uses Google Plus).
This shot is from a short walk we took yesterday - the sun has started shining, flowers have started to emerge from the ground and new life is appearing on branches. Good times.
It looks like I'm stuck in the 16:9 crop, but that is not on purpose :-)
Finally - a huge thumbs up for +G+ Photo Pages Directory for the changes made on their page ( http://www.gplusphotopages.com/theme_pages.php ). Being able to copy paste the code of pages and curators, makes things quite a lot easier :-)

Project 52 B&W
Week 9: Hands
#P52BW13 | +Project 52 B&W
Curated by +Tisha Craw , +Gene Bowker , +David Bowden
An unusually hard subject this week, which left me desperately running round in circles, looking for a way to shoot hands in a brilliant, fresh and innovative way.
In the end I gave up and shot them from an angle which has been used 1.374.382 times before.
However, I did apply some facial mud to my hands, to draw out the lines and create new ones (I promise)..... which takes the total "done before shots" down to 126.335, I believe.
:-)

...end of the road...
Yesterday I took my dads Zeiss Ikon Colora out for a spin - just curious to see if it still works. The camera (picture in the link below) is quite old and battered - and worked about as good as it looks. The film advanced very sluggishly, resulting in quite a few way-too-bright double exposures. The focus also seems way off the mark, but that may well be down to my limited abilities.
I liked one shot (after a bit of processing), so I'm posting that. It´s the last one from that camera - it will stay on the shelf from now on ;-)
Now... I really need to get some ideas for the B&W 52 project - as shots are due in today!!!

Act As If You Belong / It feels like a long time since I took my DSLR outside - the film camera has had all the attention. The results have not done much for my confidence, but I will persist until I succeed (or "accidentally" drop the K-1000 down the cellar stairs).
I took this shot earlier today - but I did not venture far. In fact, I had my feet in the living room whilst shooting. It's SOOC, apart from minor sharpening and the 16:9 crop.
In other news..... I've formatted and set up the computers in the house (2 x dual boot with Win7 and Linux Mint - and one regular Windows 7 setup for the missus). Hence the lack of interaction - and to be honest, that's how it will be this evening. I'm fed up with computers for now.

Metamorphosis?
ORIGINAL SHOT BY +Csaba Mocsonoky
Whilst looking at a gorgeous bumble-bee shot by +Csaba Mocsonoky (see link to original image below), I noticed that one of the flowers looked quite like a bird, getting ready to spread it's wings.
So - naturally I wrote to Csaba and asked if he would be OK with me processing the image in a way that would put the focus on the bird. Csaba, a perfectly wonderful dude, allowed this and sent me the original RAW file.
Now.... I know Csaba (being quite the Photoshop Expert) would have done a much better job himself - but I've done my best and here's what I came up with.
Isn't nature amazing!? ;-)

A little scene from the Pennines - the quality may be questionable, but I rather like the mood ;-)
I'm still suffering a bit from not having a scanner - but thanks to +Wilhelm Person's tip, I've got rid of the "Newton's Rings" by skipping the glass which flattened the film whilst I took a picture of the negative. I now use cello-tape to stretch it out and keep it in place ;-)))

I've finally "invested" in a new (to me) phone. I went for the Nokia N8, solely due to the Carl Zeiss optics and 12mp sensor.
Considering that it was getting a bit dark, I'm quite impressed with the first test shots. It obviously isn't close to the quality of my DSLR, but good enough to take shots when I've not got the big one with me.
And it's got a SAT-NAV thing, so I can continue my "get lost" missions without fear of ending up in another country ;-))

After frantically shooting various weirdness for the last couple of hours, I've come back to the image I had decided on earlier this week. Irritating.... but a very good learning process.
This is a dead tree, shot on a 35mm film camera (Pentax K-1000), and some clothing pegs, shot on a digital camera (Pentax K-5). Old and new.
The title has no connection - whatsoever - with Valentine's Day.

One of the first "scans" from my home made light-box. Taking shots of the shots.... and inverting them, is certainly very time consuming - and the lighting tends to be quite uneven. I'm also getting "tree-rings" such as can be seen in the corner of the window.
I guess I'll have to bite the bullet and buy a scanner, sooner or later! Has anyone used a Canon LiDE 700F or a Epson Perfection V370? I can't justify going over £100 - not yet, at least :-)
