Scott Jarvie444,022*POST YOUR GOOGLE+ ALBUM OF PICTURES* It's been very very popular event in the past and I'm finally doing it again tonight. _This time it will be more organized, more heads up than usual and even a live event._ *SHARE AN ALBUM/GALLERY LINK* It's simple and easy but a lot of work and very fun for all. You simply share an album here and I'll be going through every single one of the albums. Then I will +1 the pictures in the album that I'm really drawn to. *BENEFIT* Well it's simply if you'd love to know which pictures I like most.  I always loved knowing which pictures people really love of mine because it helps me have an eye for which pictures are best received. It's a huge part of becoming a better photographer in my opinion. _*To be able to put out great art is first to know what great art looks like*_ *ON AIR* This will be something new... I'm going to go through all the albums Live, Online as an On-Air hangout. I'll talk a little bit about what I'm doing. If the show goes well I'll keep it for later viewing on YouTube... if the recording isn't great I won't. *SPECIAL GUEST* Because I want to have an outloud conversation about what and why I'm doing things  I will have my good friend and great photographer @109486822103622036238 on the show to facilitate the discussion. She will also visit a lot of these albums and +1 pictures as well. We ask that everyone add her to a circle ... not just because she's awesome (though that's reason enough) but so that if any of these albums are by mistake limited access she will have access. *DIRECTIONS* 1. Paste a link of a Google+ image gallery 2. Put a title or description of what we'll see in the album 3.  *IMPORTANT* If you post a link you hereby give us permission to use a screenshare view of all those pictures and perhaps your profile in a recorded Youtube video. 4. Make sure the album is Public access 5. Add @100962871525684315897  @109486822103622036238 to your circles 6. Return the favor. Take some of the other people's albums and +1 some of your favorites. *IMPORTANT* It bears repeating: _If you post a link you hereby give us permission to use a screenshare view of all those pictures and your profile (maybe) in a recorded Youtube video._ Do not post a link if you are not ok with lots of people visiting that link in addition to us and are not ok with it being on video as well.Share your Album- A Jarvie PlusOne Critique Experience2012-09-12 05:30:00141

Ok, 28ºC/83ºF is definitively too hot for this area at this time of the year.
How hot is the summer going to be if it's that hot in the middle of April??

On the menu for today: Oral cancer.
I watch the news, thinking of nothing in particular, when they run an article on how they are now doing oral cancer screening in the pharmacies, since oral cancer is the 6th most common cancer in North America. Oh, swell, I think, yet another cancer to worry about. Like I didn't already have enough to worry about breast cancer, and cervical cancer, and ovarian cancer, and all the other fine specimens who are out to get me. I can stop watching the news, like I stopped going to Facebook. I can put my head in the sand. Or I can try to deal with my fears.
One says, Karin, concentrate on the good things in life. Everything is going well for you. You are strong and healthy. You have a beautiful son, a wonderful husband, a home and a job, two elderly parents who love you and are healthy, lots to live for and lots to enjoy. Yes. I have a lot to lose. And I'ma... more »

And I'm aware of it every day of my life. But what is the sense of fearing to lose what you have, if that fear destroys your life already?___

Where do I start?

Me. It hasn't been easy being me. And it's not easy to describe what it's like being me. I'm 48, annoying mother of a non-annoying 13-year-old, wife of a equally non-annoying 52-year-old, graphic designer during the day, and internet addict the rest of the time.

I've always been described as a worry wart by everyone who knows me. In recent years, my worrying about everything channeled into worrying about health. Having a child obviously didn't help matters. If you have children, you know what I mean. If you don't, then let me explain you that if you are even only a little bit normal, you will worry about the health of your child at some point of your child's life. The first fever. The first childhood illness. The first time your child asks you about this lump they found somewhere on their body.

Every time you turn on the TV, some child somewhere is dying from some sort of cancer, some sort of ailment - you can't escape it. Yes. It's some super rare form of an uncommon thingie - but it could happen to your child too. Right?

The Internet doesn't help things, either. If you ever googled "strange mole on arm", or "lump on abdomen", the first words the search results will throw at you are "cancer", "tumor" and "dying". There will be lots and lots of hits on forums where distraught people recount their frustrating experiences with doctors who wrongly diagnosed their ailments, condemning them to certain death. People who implore you to get another opinion before it's too late. People who know exactly what is wrong with everything, and how to treat it. When you research the Internet for health reasons, and you are only a little bit susceptible to anxiety, you will fall into a bottomless pit of despair, a personal hell of worry and suffering.

It took me a long time to understand how Google search works. The results of a search are based on the popularity of the results - not necessarily on their accuracy. Now reflect on the anxious, human mind: an anxious mind will be alarmed by bad news. Bad news sell. We are experience it over and over: if you are a in the news business, and you are funding your operations with the sale of ads, you have to post the bad news. The bad, horrible news generate views, and clicks, and traffic. Lots of traffic. More traffic equals more views, more views equal more ad revenues. That's just how humans are. We are drawn to bad news.  So a "bone cancer" result in a search about a sudden pain in a joint will draw your attention, you click it, and next time it will be higher up in the search results, hence more people will click it, until soon and it will pop up first in your search - and before you know it, you have fallen in the pit of despair.

My doctor tells me over and over that certain horrible illnesses, the ones I'm so afraid of, are actually quite rare. There are more healthy people than sick ones. A lot more. Statistics are you friend. But when you are in the bottomless pit of despair, you have no friends. Only fears.

So here I am, two and a half years since my first panic attack, and I'm still working on climbing out of that pit.  Health anxiety is real. It's a real issue, and I know that thanks to the Internet, there are other people out there like me. For their sake, I hope there aren't. For my sake, I hope there are. It's pretty lonely down here in the pit of despair.___

So my therapist says I’m supposed to write about my worries and fears. Instead of talking about them to my husband, my friends, my coworkers, strangers on the street… I’m supposed to write them down and deal with them myself. In some sort of a diary. Whenever I worry about something, or I’m afraid of anything, I’m supposed to shut up and write.

For years I’ve been talking about my worries and fears with everyone. The checkout lady. My neighbours. Some random dude that stops on the street to tie his shoes. "Oh hi! Shoe untied? Yeah, that's a bummer. Like that stomach pain I'm having from time to time. Such a nuisance, I tell ya. Do you think it's something worrisome...?" And then from one day to the next, I’m supposed to NOT talk about what bothers me anymore, but rather write it all down? I’m supposed to write down my worries, so that the next time I push my cart up to the checkout lady, I won’t tell her that I’m worried about my son and the headache he has been having, but I smile at her and nod, say nothing, and carry on bagging my stuff. And the smiles back, and nods too - possibly - and then is quietly thankful that I don’t chat her ears off with my petty worries and fears. Because normal people don’t talk about their troubles. Normal people talk about the weather, and about the football scores, and about their plans for the weekend. Normal people don’t open up about these intimate things to everyone and their grandma. They deal with them alone. By themselves. Normal people don’t do what I do.

But then, I’ve never been one of the normal types.___

So, it seems that Unotelly has officially caved and can no longer be used to view American Netflix content in Canada, or anywhere else in the world. Today I found out about a new service called Streamjack TV. They promise to do what Unotelly hasn't been able to do for the past few month: access to international content independent from your country of residence. Did anyone hear about this service? Did anyone try it yet? I would love to hear from someone who tried it...

Have your pizza and eat your veggies, too.
Instead of tomato sauce, this Thai Chicken Pizza has a layer of peanut satay sauce, a sprinkling of mozzarella, grilled chopped chicken meat (which you can omit without issue if you're vegetarian), julienned carrot (I use a carrot peeler to peel and peel and peel my carrot into thin strips), some chopped green onions, lots and lots of bean sprouts and more mozzarella on top. It's a family favourite, and always amazing.

Flammkuchen or Tarte Flambée is an Alsatian specialty, from a region which is close to my home town in Germany. I had to recreate it here in Canada, without the use of Crème Frâiche or the proper type of bacon. Plus I didn't have anything but red onions in the house. I mixed sour cream with cream cheese, and fried the bacon and onion pieces a bit before putting it on the dough.
But in the end, it was all pretty good. Bacon, sour cream and onion on a pizza? What's not to love! Pretty genius, these French people. :)

Tonight's Dinner: Arroz con pollo
It's a slow cooker recipe I like doing when I know we'll be out all day, because it's always nice to come home to finished meal.
I use boneless, skinless chicken thighs (about 8), and place them in the crockpot. Sprinkle them with 1/2 tsp salt, 1 pinch of freshly ground pepper, 1/2 tsp granulated garlic, 1 tsp dried oregano, 2 tsp chili powder, then add 1/2 of a crumbled chicken bouillon cube and 2 tbsp red wine. Mix well. Set on slow to cook for at least 6 hours.
One hour before ready, add 1 cup of frozen green peas. Just before serving, add two cups of cooked rice. Make sure it's all warmed through before serving.
Very yummy and very easy to make.

Blotchy blush?
I bought a new powder blush recently, a high-end kind of product with a beautiful colour that suits me really well, but try as I might, it applied blotchy on me, constantly. I tried all the different brushes I have, but somehow, it never looked right. I was this close to giving up, when it occurred to me that I could possibly use my Beautyblender. We bought some organic apples last week for Thomas's lunches, but he didn't seem to like them very much, so I make a cake this afternoon to use them up - 'cause everyone loves cake. This one is with cinnamon and vanilla, that's why the batter seems so dark. Normally there should be a cream cheese frosting on it, but I didn't have any cream cheese... plus it probably has less calories without the frosting. :)
