Das neue Google Maps
Sieht klasse aus und die Neuerungen, die mir auf den ersten Blick auffallen:
- Restaurants, die ich in einer Review verewigt habe, sind markiert (nahe Markierung A)
- Öffentliche Verkehrsmittel sind integriert (auch wenn diese Route dann doch sehr abenteuerlich ist)
- Fahrtzeiten unter Berücksichtigung der aktuellen Verkehrslage
(gab es vorher auch schon, oder? Springt hier aber wesentlich mehr ins Auge)
- sehr schneller Aufbau

How to get a single column view in Communities
Go to google.com/settings/plus and activate Accessibility.
Voila - your community looks like it used to do.
Warning there is a known bug where you can't comment or +1 20 posts deep within the community, but that's being worked on.

3x 15 Minutes of Google Hate: Hating the onHover, killing the Multicolumn Layout through Circles and the missing Reader interface.
Google plus is now looking like Pinterest by default. There is no point of progress any more when reading the stream, so you are losing the last bit of navigation that was available. The river of news becomes a sea of news with zero guidance lights. Also, the layout is structure- and restless.
Worse: There is no safe mouse pointer position or path any more that is sure to trigger no popups. If you are moving the mouse pointer over the screen too slowly or have to reposition the hand, popups can open any time anywhere, obscuring the article you are probably reading right now.
The same happens when you two finger scroll down with the mouse pad and accidentally stop over a persons icon or name.

rage free impression of the recent changes
- The Auto-Follow for Google Pages was checked in my settings - that was unchecked before, so you might want to have a look at your's and see if it is (re)set for you, too.
- I find the multi column layout to be an improvement, although it seems that it gets harder to identify new posts in it. This is a problem in combination with the removal of the auto-updates. By the time I realize that there are new posts, it is so many that I have a hard time keeping up.
- Auto-Enhance of photos: tried it on a couple of my photos, did what I expected, turned it off for all my photos. It might be a help for the casual photographer though, but I'm not a fan of the results.
- The Highlights in my albums - not a big fan of it, but then I only saw it once and haven't found it since ;)

99% of all times someone calls something "amazing" I fail to be amazed.
Maybe that's because I live in a city of millions of people and work mostly on the interwebs. Or maybe because I am a zynic and a douche. I dunno.
Also, a second ago I wanted to swipe a peck of dust from my Macbook's screen and did it very carefully, so I don't gesture the screen away...

The Road to Reine
I really don't know much about shooting video. But since I took four cameras to the Lofoten, some of those came handy to shoot video or timelapse series. Back home, I took some of the footage, plus a small selection of photographs and turned it into this 8:23 minute "road movie", adequately named "The Road to Reine", as that was my destination towards the Southern tip of the archipelago. The music is composed by Chicane, one of my favorite trance/chillout producers, and I actually listened to those tracks from the video while driving in Norway. I hope you like it.

Well here’s the story. I imagined Bert as a Marine who left his little brother behind for the Vietnam war. Over the years, Ernie started to turn into a junkie without his brother’s guidance, falling into the wrong crowd and dealing/using with the wrong people–thus making some very bad mistakes.
Until Bert returned, leaving one war, only to fight another for his brother.
