I'm looking for good places to give my money away.

Specifically in Chicago, searching for nonprofits that can make an impact to reduce gang deaths among teens and young adults or to aide victims, break the cycle, etc.  I've checked CharityNavigator.org and Google searches but am not coming up with much.

Well maybe I found one:  http://www.breakthroughministries.com/  What do you guys think?  Any others?

So I've been gradually catching up on Doctor Who seasons.  I'm in season 4  season 3 now and finally watched Blink last night!

Thinking about this today.

* Only 18% of respondents who had symptoms characteristic of major depression or generalized anxiety disorder had received a diagnosis from a doctor.
* Less than one-tenth of the undiagnosed group believed that their symptoms meant that they had a mental disorder, and more than half of those with a doctor's diagnosis also did not agree.
* Undiagnosed respondents who reported that they would not seek a doctor's assistance for symptoms such as those covered by the survey were asked to respond to various possible reasons.
* 44% responded "not serious, I can handle it."
* 28% reported having limited or no insurance
* 18% reported being "too busy to see a mental health professional."
* 10% of respondents reported fear of having to take medications or not knowing of a doctor to go to.

This photo of a stack of books yesterday is my favorite still photo for 2013 so far.  The books at my parents house are weathered and well used.  As the youngest daughter has married and moved out this year, these books are beginning to gather dust.  I attempted to do some subtle 'aging' to the photo to complement this.

My son packed his own backpack for the weekend trip: one lego toy and about a dozen small chapter books (Magic School Bus and Magic Tree House).  He did take a look at Where the Sidewalk Ends and was enjoying some fun poems.

Inspired by +Maki Silberberg, I let my girl be creative with my camera and take pictures around the house this weekend. She totally got into it and I'll share the pics sometime.  She did a great job, it was fun to see what she would do.  When she saw the photos appear on the display, she moved her thumb across the photo. Confused she asked me, "Does it swipe?"

My girly girl who loves pink and dresses and baby dolls learned how to play Mastermind last week and loves it.  Well, it's an adaptation for 3-year-olds.  She tells me which are the right colors or in the right spot.  And she always chooses to hide pink and purple.

Yesterday my computer and camera both decided my camera's SD card was corrupt and unreadable.  After trying again and again, using another computer, trying built-in and external card readers, I was about ready to reformat the card.

Before reformatting, I looked around online and found ZAR - Zero Assumption Recovery recommended on a photography website for this purpose.  I gave it a shot and it was able to recover everything on the card perfectly.  Yay!

Well Christmas is long gone, but I hope you enjoy some of these ridiculous pics.  Sometimes I take 100 photos and get a couple keepers.  All in all, these are silly enough to share as a batch.

Early reports also indicated that sitting on the floor while holding your knees to your chest and slowly rocking back and forth is not only acceptable, but, sources said, absolutely understandable. Chop, chop, chop! I am very excited about this!  I've been waiting for my hair to be long enough to do this and now is the time.  Just in time for the season of giving, these locks are now in an envelope and ready to go to Locks of Love.

If you didn't know, Locks of Love creates hair pieces for disadvantaged children under 21 that suffer from long-term hair loss from a variety of causes.  You can also donate money.  This is just a fun and unique way to help someone out!

I just got #communities .  Initial thoughts:

Today's G+ has been blah all day for me because of this trending new feature, and I've mostly avoided G+ for it.  So now I see the Communities button.

There are like, 14 communities.  Total.  Moderated by hand-picked people by Google.  And there's a button Create a community but it's grayed out: Community creation coming soon!

So I sort of understand maybe they want to start small, but on one hand, this funnels all the plussers in the communiverse to join the existing ones, reminiscent of how Google seeded the G+ world with their picks, which ended up gaining an enormous following just because they were there.   #SUL take 2.
