Everyone raise a glass in honor of +Laurence Hubbard (creator of +Tea for Ten and someone many of us called friend)

Hanging out and enjoying Laurence who truly appreciated good sense of humor and cheer. He loved +Google+ and hanging out, fascinated by it 
as he explored it... It is sad to have lost him so soon and my thoughts
are with his family, friends and everyone who was in his life. I hope he is in a beautiful place right now with no pain and able to still be all over our hangouts in spirit.

Life is still good
I got the bad news, in fact double the intensity. The cancer progress began on two different organs, pancreas and liver.
So It's palliative care now, and a pretty short timeline.
All the thoughts and good wishes have been overwhelming.
If there's anything after this life, I'll hopefully be surprised, like playing center field for the San Francisco Giants.

I'm in Limbo
My melanoma can be one of two types, one treatable with an experimental, non-chemo drug, that has a 90% chance of reducing or eliminating the cancer.
The other melanoma is incurable, with a similar dismal prognosis to pancreatic cancer.
I'll find out which one I have in the next week or two.

Last night, we had a blackout for a few hours because of hurricane Sandy, and I realized that I still really want one of these Solio chargers. Backup power to charge my phone, that can use the sun to load up its battery.
I heard that Obama has one.
Such great industrial design and utility!

+Jill Barber is a fabulous Canadian singer/songwriter who sings some Everly Brothers with her brother, recently in Toronto before her current Australia tour.
Her music is smokey, bluesy, Maritimish, soulful, and timeless. I sat next to her playing guitar at a campfire during the Shelter Valley Folk Festival a few years ago. What talent up close, and sweet as pie.

It's strange seeing people circle me now.
Some don't know I'm ill, some must find it interesting to follow, some want to support me as I go through this.
Google+ keeps my spirits high, I love this community ♥

I just got back from an aerobic level ride around town and feel nearly normal right now. Incredible meds.

The morphine makes me dozy too, and my sleep is all over the place now. Worked out well as I motored through months of office loose ends between 3-7am! Such a weight off.
It's unloading time.

Some news. The cancer on my liver turned out to be melanoma. The pancreas tumors are still unknown. This is generally good news because it's a bit more treatable.

What have been your favorite Hangout magic moments?
I posted about my personal fave a few months ago when an Egyptian activist grew to love his enemy in a Hangout, a US Marine friend of mine.

Recently my friend's 3 year old had her first Hangout, and you should have seen the utter joy on her little round face.
+M Monica in America +Mathew Hanley in the UK and +Robert Redl in Austria joined our cam in Canada. Robert is obviously great with kids. You wouldn't see that so easily in text social connecting, that's for sure!

I thought it was a stomach ache

After two weeks I figured I had a stomach flu. After four weeks I went to the hospital to check it out.
CT and MRI scans revealed an 8cm tumor on my pancreas and others on my liver. It was already inoperable cancer.
Chemo is all the hospitals have to offer, any other treatment I want to try is up to me. This is an aggressive cancer that usually kills within six months.

I'm an atheist who is comfortable thinking that this is all finite. I don't have fear, I'm too logical for that. There's no guilt because there's nothing I could have done.

I had a great, full life highlighted by two wonderful children.
Ironically, the only thing ever missing in my life was a good career, and I was on the verge of probably having one with the success of Tea for Ten. I'm proud of that accomplishment and I thank Google... more »

Medical Imaging 101 pt 1
My circled friends keep asking me to post a tutorial about what each modality can and can't do. So today for +ScienceSunday , here is part 1 of what I plan to be a series of medical imaging tutorials. I'll start out by listing the main players and then follow up each week with a detailed post about each modality. Some of them require a contrast agent or exogenous component. A contrast agent is a compound that is given either orally or intravenously to enhance the image.

Here's the list: x-ray CT, MRI, PET, SPECT, Ultrasound, and optical. I'll throw in EPRI as a bonus even though it is experimental (relatively speaking).

It's vacation time and I didn't even know it!

The Jewish holiday Sukkot started tonight. I only remembered that it was a harvest holiday and involves a hut.

So I Wiki'd it, and here's the deal.
It's a week long fest that is supposed to include a pilgrimage to Jerusalem. But if you can't go, it's time to host parties, go visiting, and eat!

The sukkah hut, usually in the back yard, symbolizes the temporary dwellings the Jews used in their exodus from slavery in Egypt. It's decorated with the seven species of food. This is a key group of native grains and fruits talked about much in the bible. Wheat, olives, grapes, figs, pomegranate, dates, and barley.

Jewish or not, this holiday makes total sense for this time of year. So get out the extra plates and chairs and get your harvest on!

I love having a computer in my pocket!

The smartphone changed my life. It made my new career path. I finally got organized after failing to keep up with paper agendas my whole life. With all its sensors, it does more than my desktop can. It answers most of my questions. It made me a fan of Google, which led me right here.
Without it, I feel like Batman without a utility belt.
