Went out for a nice sunset shoot in Seattle last night with my Buddy +Aman Anuraj. The sunset was decent but hopefully we got some good shots of the Aurora bridge, a place that I finally made it to after living in Seattle for the past 2 years. The West Fjords of Iceland are beautiful and there are more sheep than people in this part of the country. You can wander around for days and not see a soul, it's a great experience.

Wow what a weekend in the Pacific Northwest, the weather was absolutely perfectly, especially for star photography I made a trip down to Oregon & the Mount Hood Region to capture the Milky Way, along the way we were able to make the hikes to Dry Creek Falls and Tamanawas Falls, both well worth the 4-5 mile round trip hikes. Eta Aquarids Meteor Shower

This morning during my workshop we setup to capture the Eta Aquarids meteor shower, at 2:30am we saw this giant meteor streak across the sky over Devil's Tower, what a sight!

The weather if finally turning nice in Seattle, well at least for now. As Thursday rolls around it's time to make plans for the usual weekend photography trip & I need some ideas for places to shoot. The last 8 weekends have been spent on the roads of the Pacific Northwest capturing shots and camping, so maybe it's time for a break... Doubt it!

Not All That Wander Are Lost - Central Park, NYC

Just got back from a weekend on the Oregon Coast where the weather didn't play along quite as well as last weekend. We did catch a really awesome moon rise over the water and found an amazing camping spot on the ocean which made up for the lack of nice light.

The Matriarch

This beautiful cheetah (Acinonyx jubatus), a protective mother of five, watches cautiously from atop a termite mound as two lions slowly approach her family through African grasslands. She stands ready to protect her young cubs...at any cost.

With exceptional eyesight, this excellent mother can evaluate danger from great distances. In the wild, cheetah cubs have a high mortality rate due to predation by other carnivores. The cheetah is naturally adapted for its environment, and being the fastest land mammal on record, able to cover distances up to 500 meters in bursts of 70-75 mph, it has the ability to protect and provide food for its young. In this case, the lions were chased off and the cubs and mother were able to continue with their pursuit of living wild and free.

Jack's Friends - Desolation Peak, WA

Holding onto pictures a long time prior to processing is never a bad thing. This is one of the first shots I ever took with a DSLR way back from 2010ish up North in Desolation Peak Washington. One of my favorite authors Jack Kerouac spent a summer at the fire tower on top of the peak. Do you have a favorite Jack Kerouac Book? Mine is easily On the Road, I know it's now trendy, but damn what a good read.

The Shot
Mount Hozomeen can be seen in the far distance looming in the clouds and shaking up weather systems in all directions. Sometimes storms will roll in so fast that you barely have time to grab a camera or better yet shelter from the storm.

Filter: Heliopan Neutral Density 3.0 [10 stops] filter

Processing:
Lightroom 4 [temp, sharpness, etc]

Another long nearly sleepless weekend in the books that took us to Cannon Beach, Cape Kiwanda and some other random spots. The weather played along well and I have some amazing shots to throw in the folder with the 18,000 or so that are waiting to be processed! The Shot
When out shooting I always take a few "minimal" shots including just the clouds and sky. Sometimes these turn out really cool as this one from Vik Iceland did.

Crossing my fingers for no rain and heading off to Hug Point Oregon tomorrow to do some camping, exploring and of course photography. There are of course some other cool locations down that way like Cannon Beach, does anyone have any less known suggestions that are great for photos? I would love to shoot at some new spots...

Franklin Falls is just an awesome place for a Sunday afternoon hike and some beers, photos, or anything else that may strike your interest.
