You can now start to have a conversation with search on all your devices—including your desktop or laptop. We’re rolling out the new conversational search functionality over the next few days in +Google Chrome, so you can ask Google about “Italian restaurants in San Francisco” and continue the conversation with “how about Chinese." Or find out “who is the prime minister of Australia” then ask “how old is she”—and Google will give you a spoken answer. Just click the mic in the Google search bar and speak up.  Also, be sure to have the volume up on your computer to hear your answer loud and clear.

Who’s the most searched basketball team on Google? What pop star is topping the charts in searches? Starting today, we’ve introduced Top Charts (http://g.co/gb46) in Google Trends to help you discover the most popular people, places and things in more than 40 categories, from movies to sports teams to tourist attractions. These lists are ranked by search interest and will be updated monthly. For example, the charts below showcase the 10 most-searched cities, movies and scientists in April. To see others, go to Google Trends and click "Top Charts" on the left-hand side.

Today we've also added a new and vibrant way to see top trending searches as they happen. You'll see a new link on the Trends homepage where you can see the latest trending topics on Google appear in colorful visual display (http://g.co/h5pz).

Night Light... Donner Lake, 1am, Truckee, California

A good night light makes you feel safer. Lets you see in the dark. Is discreet and doesn't sear your eyeballs out of their sockets if you have to get up in the middle of the night and don't want to run into the door frame.

A good night light kisses you on the forehead and says quite tenderly; "It's time to sleep, sweet thing. Good night." And you always reply "'Night, light. Sweet dreams."

A good night light is timeless.

"In 1967, Kathrine Switzer was the first woman to run the Boston marathon. After realizing that a woman was running, race organizer Jock Semple went after Switzer shouting, ‘Get the hell out of my race and give me those numbers.’ However, Switzer’s boyfriend and other male runners provided a protective shield during the entire marathon. The photographs taken of the incident made world headlines, and Kathrine later won the NYC marathon with a time of 3:07:29."

[For those who serve.]

About two minutes in I realized my mouth was full of half-eaten food. I'd stop chewing. I'd stopped breathing.  "There's gotta be people hurt out there," the cop had screamed as he ran into the smoking rubble. I burst into tears.

But what kept striking me more than the horror of it all was my deep and sincere appreciation seeing those men and women in uniform fearlessly running into the carnage, ripping apart the barricades to storm through to the people who needed them right then, not giving care to the fact that another explosion could be on the way any minute, fighting the natural instinct we all have to run in the opposite direction to protect ourselves. Noble and brave don't begin to do it justice.

So I'm posting this as my thanks to all of you who serve. I know many have mixed feelings about our military and... more »

Prime (alpha)

I’ve been working on a little side project whenever I have some time in the evenings, and recently I’ve made a few pretty sweet breakthroughs.

What started as a fun little tool that was developed through the brainstorming sessions with +Thomas Hawk, has turned into a tool that a handful of photographers have been using regularly months later.

With the advice and feedback from Thomas Hawk, +Lotus Carroll, +Jon Bauer, +Andrew Ng, +Tony Cross and more amazing photographers, I’ve been able to build a very strong platform that’s ready for rapid development to the next level.

Above is a sneak peak of the layout of an example of my own “prime” photos, ranked by all sorts of social signals, visual cues, and other fun magic.

Celebrated fashion designer Diane von Furstenberg tried on Glass for the first time a few months ago at a conference that she attended with Sergey Brin. She immediately loved it and they agreed to bring Glass to New York Fashion Week. Diane is a champion for innovation and effortless design, so it’s unsurprising that Glass fit seamlessly into her production. In the week leading up to her Spring 2013 show in New York, and during the show itself, everyone from stylists and models to Diane herself used Glass to capture never-before-seen footage of the creative process. This is the first time any video has been shot entirely through Glass and we’re so excited to be able to share it with you. #DVFthroughGlass
