Dr. John Cassone12,100Dr. John's Selectgood content and engagementThese are people I follow, engage with, and suggest for my new followers who want quality people in their stream. This circle changes each time I share it based on how people are engaging and sharing content. This is not a megacircle.People are only added based on good content or my experience engaging with them.Best way to sort and manage your stream:1. add new circle2. follow it in your stream separately 3. engage with those that interest you (good content/interaction)4. cherry pick those you like and make your own circles5. let go of the rest (or put them in a circle that's dialed down on your stream)If you add too many people too often then you will not build meaningful connections which is the point here.Circle Management Basics:1. Circles control who you follow:►   I might feel like reading the news so I have a news channel circle. I don't build relationships with these pages but follow them and share content when interesting. This way I can completely control my stream based on my mood.2. Circles control who your share to: ►   Share to your interests: I like martial arts but most of my followers do not. By collecting a circle of others that like martial arts I can share specifically to those interested in this topic and not bore anyone.►  I have also collected an "inner circle" of g-peeps that I have gotten to know and share more person pics and info with.3. Control your stream flow:►   When you click on a specific circle in your stream you can adjust how much the posts from that circle appear in your "everything" stream. ►   Organize people based on flow: I have three main circles called 1, 2, and 3. I have the amount of flow dialed in priority (circle 1 is high, 2 is medium, and 3 is low). I move people between circles based on the progression of our relationship. ►   Notify circle: I have another circle with people that I don't want to miss a single post from. This circle is set to notify me whenever someone from it posts. This is a great way to focus on building a relationship with specific people.Happy Plussing :)2014-09-07 19:22:331921015

Daniel Mihai Popescu52,356They are the Survivors, a circle I'm going to share more often, because it has its own dynamic :)I hope you receive the notification this time, and if you receive it, it means you are in the circle, so you are not required to do anything. Just a "+1" from your part will be greatly appreciated, there's no need to spend your precious time with sharing or commenting. For non-members, I think you have to figure out on your own what to do, because usually I don't promise anything, I'm don't barter my circles membership. If you add the circle, it's definitively your gain, so I strongly suggest you to do so. The circle's title is not in vain, it really suggests the circle's dynamic. #danielmihaipopescusharedcircle   #maximumperformance  This, like all of my other circles, is an homage to you.Thank you very much for being my friends!2014-06-26 14:46:19412442853

We're moving through harvest. Seeds, thoughts, ideas - what will be their yield? What provisions have you made for your future?

In a network, there's an abundance of people - and in a network, the best place to store knowledge, is in other people. There's a challenge though - how do we harvest other people?

Do we squeeze out all the gooey goodness inside, leaving them as empty husks? Do we reduce them to data, and aggregate them to the tune of millions of vibrant, alive human beings, suddenly turned lifeless one's and zero's?

Eleventy-first

#onthisday  since 1978, Bilbo Baggin’s eleventy-first birthday, the opening of J.R.R. Tolkien’s “Lord of the Rings“ is celebrated as “Hobbit Day“ all over the world.

“When Mr. Bilbo Baggins of Bag End announced that he would shortly be celebrating his eleventy-first birthday with a party of special magnificence, there was much talk and excitement in Hobbiton." (J.R.R. Tolkien)

Elves wielding magic swords, a race of supermen accomplishing superhuman feats and finally tripping over their own hubris like the fisherman’s wife from the fairy tale, embodied spirits and their world-shaking magics, demons, ghoulies and ghosties and whatnot, Tolkien’s first stories, written over a period of more than ten years and published 50 years later by his son as “Silmarillion” are caught up in the heroics of the old myths and legends of Northern Europe, authored in the shadow of the sorrow, the suffering, the glory and the pain of the Great War’s cataclysm and the following moral and social hangover of the interwar period. Whatever made Tolkien come up with a new kind of hero in the days when the next catastrophe was just around the corner, back then in 1937, he created something very different from the warlords of old, a being living a cosy life in a hole in the ground in a quasi-English countryside, a hobbit, his alter ego Bilbo Baggins.

Goaded by the archaic spiritual leader, the Odin-esque Gandalf, Gandr-alfr, the elf with the magic wand, the smug and rather impossible hero outgrows himself and plays a pivotal role in a heroic quest, even though he is not the one who slays the dragon, leads his men into battle or gets crowned as “King under the Mountain”. But he returns home a wiser, more open-minded Hobbit who had traded respectability for becoming and oddball among his stuffy neighbours. Owning his share of a dragon’s hoard, of course, helped with being a bit on the eccentric side, but Bilbo Baggins and his charming role in a variation of the hero quest had become one of the most loveable characters in recent literature anyway. Reason enough to celebrate his fictional birthday, honouring J.R.R. Tolkien, the creator of myths and his Hobbit heroes who are far more than they seem at first glance. Accordingly, the American Tolkien Society initiated a feast day that is well worth to be observed by all who love Tolkien’s works, those who should and all of us who have not yet lost our sense of wonder.

Depicted below is the approach of the Chinese artist Jian Guo on Bilbo’s eleventy-first in stained-glass style (2004).

21C Platforms: Generosity Catalyzing Network Effects

+Mark Traphagen :
Why Giving Away Your Expertise Is a Winning Strategy

For the last several years I've built my career in digital marketing on one simple idea: the best thing I can do is consistently, relentlessly, doggedly give away as much of my knowledge and experience as I can.

Sounds crazy, right? Below is a link to a slide deck where I explain the Circle of Giving Philosophy.

Why Giving Away What You Do Is the Smartest Thing You'll Ever Do

Drawing from a South Seas island tradition of the Circle of Giving, Mark Traphagen explains why if you're trying to build a brand, the smartest thing you can do is start giving away as much of your expertise as you can.

Do we squeeze out all the gooey goodness inside, leaving them as empty husks? Do we reduce them to data, and aggregate them to the tune of millions of vibrant, alive human beings, suddenly turned lifeless one's and zero's?

What story is ours to belong to? What story is made richer to everyone, for including our uniquely own? What happens if we share our unique voice? Will anyone listen? If someone listens, is there movement?

Turns out, we need doors. We need portals. Thankfully, there's an abundance of portals:

"Any sufficiently advanced blogpost, is indistinguishable from a portal, through which you can get to know another human being."
-- John Kellden

No Aragorning though - no dramatic entrance, no barging into the grand conversation hallway. Instead, find a place - better still, make space, sculpt time, where you and someone else can share a word or three. After which you can decide together:

- virtue is the key
- path is what moves us

Every portal, every beat of your journey, brings a gift - one additional part of your true name and your true voice. Once you know who you are, you will find in yourself a story that will help bring others closer to their portals. Share. Trust. Movement. Flow...

Conversation Community

add considered, considerate comments on other people's posts...

is the only rule in the community.

Conversation: as a skill, literacy, flow and art
Conversation as an art needs to be rediscovered, rekindled, revitalized. Everything from Pithy Quotes to Profound Pictures - towards shared understanding, visualizing the 21C Commonplace.
http://goo.gl/1lsVzz

comment, context, conversation, context, comment

Inbetween two comments, there's two different contexts. When there's sufficiently shared understanding and context:

conversation

These are the topics of the Conversation Community
Its five-year mission: to explore generative new words, to sentence ourselves with new life and new sensemaking, to boldly metalogue where no individual conversations have gone before.

Conversation
Anything that will help spark a conversation, enabling us to rediscover, rekindle and revitalize.

21C Monday Magazine
Once a week, usually sunday evening, GMT+1, Norrkoping, Sweden, there's a curation of fantabulousness, out of the conversations turned cocreation of value from select Conversation Community member posts and comments.

Gaia
As if we are, here and now, fully capable of knowledge gardening - assuming our part, our stewardship, tending our own small part of the garden, as if we never left.

Life in the Village
If we do, and share our own personal stories, our own recipes - life in the Village - goes on.

Watercooler & Introductions
Here's where you say hi to all others. Here's also where you can gather together with others, sit down and have a cup of coffee, a croissant and a conversation - if there's something on your mind. You can say hi to all others as often as you like.

21C Literacies
Lots of topics with 21C in their title. They're for figuring out the

whereto, why, what, how

of the 21C, at least the parts of these generative inquiries that can be teased out through us thinking things through together.

Make Things Happen
If we manage to tease out a thought or three - this topic is for the ensuing working out loud, all the way towards developing new products and services.

Knowledge Expeditions, is one of the things we've launched from the Conversation Community.

Play
Work is a subset of play. Play is a subset of life, the universe and everything. The answer remains 42 - and we're 7 bn, soon 9 bn human beings, helping each other figuring out - what's the exam question? Is there a test coming?

Deep Stuff
Where we are figuring out how to behave, given our selves have been fitted with digital selves, enabling connecting with other human beings in every corner of the world.

Visual Storytelling
Pithy Quotes and Profound Pictures. 21C Transmedia Storytelling - all the wondruous things we can do, together, once we help each other visualize who and where we are, and where we're going.

21C Fieldbook, Community, Storytelling, Enaction
The 21C can be enacted. We can sculpt time:

21C Roadmapping: Sagarmatha Knowledge Expeditions
Yes, there's been some of those. The Watercooler topic works great for figuring out, eg if we'd like to get together, anything from innovating new services like eg Knowledge Expeditions:
+Joachim Stroh +Ron Scroggin +Doug Breitbart +Henk Hadders
or any other innovative artifacts, products, services we'd love to cocreate.

It's for us to draw 21C diagrams in - until we've helped each other understand what 21C Literacies we need, to perform stewardship, including response-able tool use.

A species went forth...
Once our graphs are understood, our traversals agreed and desire lines in place, we can make small moves, take small steps, build on our movement towards our own future, building schema, augmenting metadata, metatags:

1. Forage for data
2. Search for schema
3. Instantiate schema
4. Solve, resolve, scaffold and redesign
5. Decide and author
6. Traverse (graph, network, fitness space, umwelt, ecosystem)
7. Recurse (patterning, recombining, using eg modular frameworks)
8. Celebrate

ValueWeb Method Cards

Session played in the Knowledge Expedition #4.

≤≥≤ Sagarmatha Dispatch-Gazette ≥≤≥

21C KNOWLEDGE EXPEDITION #4: DAY 4

We played cards in the temple of the Lhama priests today. Method Cards. The cards elicited our responses to the question "What would the Lhama Priests have us bring back [to the Village] from Sagarmatha?"

The cards we drew bore these legends: Anticipation, Signal, Change, Holon, Interaction, Storyverse, Exaptation, Resilience, Feedback, Understanding

Here is a lovely collage of things we said, in the collegial atmosphere of Expedition #4, in a temple not far from Base Camp, where we are climbing the mountain Sagarmatha:

"The priests would have us take away a readiness for change." - +Bryan Alexander

"The kind of doable change that I am singularly capable of… - +Tracee Vetting Wolf

"Always go for the easiest and most achievable shot on the table. Don't get fancy, keep it simple. Odds are always improved that way." - +Doug Breitbart

"We can attune ourselves for signs of transformation." - +Bryan Alexander  - http://bryanalexander.org/2014/08/24/returning-to-optimism/

"We are about to understand each other better."   +Ron Scroggin

"Inherent in being one within an infinite game, we have free will and we are makers of our own reality." - +Tracee Vetting Wolf

"Resilience = working with what we've got." - +Ron Scroggin

"Interaction is something I understand. I try to interact as much as possible." - +Lacerant Plainer

"Exaptation is an essential value/skill to bring back to the Village, exapting to a completely new environment.

"The idea is to set the organization ablaze with technology
that has high potential to ignite the hearts and minds of employees." - +Joachim Stroh  - Toward Higher Rates of Adoption for Social Business Platforms through Adaptation and Exaptation
http://changeagentsworldwide.com/assets/doc/caww_whitepaper_full_11.pdf

"Success is a direct function of the engagement and responsiveness and experiential participation and sharing of all, singly, collectively and as a new organism." +Doug Breitbart

"Our Story, through the cards, through the Knowledge Expedition climb, can form a generative sequence 'through':

"_signal, change, exaptation, resilience_"
- +John Kellden

"Just back from running a leadership development programme, I have finished 13 weeks with 2 groups of 2 and in neither case were people willing to give real feedback.

"It takes courage to really open up at that level and yet if we want peace in our world we need greater transparency." - +Kate Griffiths

Deep Stuff: Maven

MAVEN arrives at Mars in 4 days!

On September 21st, NASA's next spacecraft - MAVEN - arrives at Mars, beginning its mission to study the atmosphere of Mars.

In order to get into orbit around Mars, MAVEN has to change its velocity by more than 4,300 kph.

One of the cool first missions for MAVEN was totally unexpected. It's going to image Comet Siding Springs, which will pass only 130,000 km from Mars. In fact, Mars is going to pass right through the coma of the comet.

Zen of Small Tasks: Small Measures

Will add more here re dimensions of time...

“Time is not a reality, but a concept or a measure” (Antiphon the Sophist)

“Throw him out – he’s breaking my heart!” The baron’s words still rang in his ears and Franz Joseph Pospischil’s whole composure gave a new meaning to the word “crestfallen”. The skinny young man skulked down Renngasse in the shadow of Palais Rothschild where the steam-driven Fiacre that had brought him here still waited. The cabby cast a cold eye on the skinny youth in his raddled frock coat who staggered on patched boots towards Ratzenstadel in Magdalenengrund, the poor quarter in Vienna’s 6th district, clutching books and maps in one atrophic arm while a spider-like hand clung like grim death to a box that, admittedly, stood out as oddly prosperous from this beggar student incarnate. In fact, the long hours Mrs Pospischil, Franz Josef’s old mother, had worked as a housekeeper in the new palais on the Ringstraße had provided the gulden that had paid for the redwood casing as well as the brass instruments, the ink and the stamps her son had used while corresponding with scholars in London, Paris and St Petersburg and the long hours Pospischil junior had spent in comparing the calculations in the book the family had brought from Prague with the latest research results on ancient Babylonian astronomy, Ptolemy’s epicycles and the works of Abraham ibn Esra, al-Kindi and Abu Ma’shar. And while the rays of the setting autumn sun that crept through the steam clouds that covered Vienna since decades painted the city in a reddish golden light that Turner might have conceived if he had caught a really bad inflammation of the eyes, Pospischil came to a conclusion. He would listen to the music that sounded when the spheres separated. Even without the funds Rothschild would never provide anyway. Not in Nineveh, in Alexandria or in Toledo, but right here in the Vienna Woods, in places where the ancients had worshipped their gods before the Romans came. He had just to alignt his calculations by means of the machine he had constructed. That was what it was for after all. To pinpoint the location and the time when the rotation of the spheres opened gates to other worlds. Pospischil was on his way.

Depicted below is a faithful reproduction of Franz Joseph Pospischil’s machine, originally conceived in another time and another place, now on exhibition in the #wunderkammer  as designed by a young artist who calls himself osiskars and found on:

Life in the Village, part 49: Enlightenment

Ht +Anne-Marie Valton

Family matters

Loving-kindness, compassion, sympathetic joy, equanimity… 'Others' is too generic though for practical first steps in the practice of generosity, patience, perseverance, equanimity, cultivation, wisdom: 'family' is a more practical context to start with (note: 'practical', I didn't say 'easy')!

It's quite easy in the midst of one's family to develop conceit, based on any spiritual progress one has made. This is easily recognised as an unhelpful attitude though.
This isn't to say that one's progress should be denied, but that the projection of a separation is unwholesome: there's only progress if it serves all, not just yourself.
Serving others might start with one's improved temper and lower reactivity to provocations… but there's further to go! Once you're wiser and more generous, there are many opportunities where and when you can help more than merely staying calm and composed.

You might e.g. kindly get people to reflect on the tendencies they embody. You might also actually start embodying your own insights more.

One way to look at this is as follows: prior to your progress, you participated in the status quo (maybe as a victim; maybe as a silent, this-is-not-my-problem, bystander; maybe as a perpetrator), and as such you perpetuated whatever tendency you came against and didn't wisely engage with… that is to say, you participated in perpetuating (or creating or, at the very least, not ceasing) the very tendencies you can now discern as unwholesome. Since you participated in the status quo, you do hold some keys to amend what you've done, if you're willing to look hard enough at your past contribution (be it active or passive).

Another way to look at this is as follows: one of the biggest gifts we can give to others is… not  to label them! Realise 'your' selflessness but also others': allow others to grow out of old tendencies.
Projections on genders are ubiquitous, and saying the right thing about universal buddha-nature isn't enough! Statistics on gender equality might be difficult to interpret (e.g. Italy ranks among the countries where women do a lot more domestic chores than men… but it also ranks among the countries with the smallest pay gap!)(e.g. some statistics count how many hours men spend on domestic chores, but this is not comparable between countries with a lot of automation and countries where everything is done manually… hence "proportion of house chores" seems more relevant) but this isn't an excuse.
While traditional gender roles don't necessarily mean inequality when one considers all  hours of work (paid and unpaid) as contributions to the family's welfare (cf. e.g. cdn.static-economist.com/sites/default/files/imagecache/original-size/images/print-edition/20140726_USC370.png for the US evolution of proportions but with pretty constant and equal totals), one has to consider whether traditional gender roles are taken out of choice or out of appropriate wisdom in response to a specific context… or out of indoctrination (under the guise of gender-appropriate education), peer pressure or even oppression. One of the biggest gifts we can give to others is not  to label them (gplus.wallez.name/C4T75afe47T) and, in relation to genders, this means not to automatically  attribute the domestic chores to women or the house repairs to men, it also means not to treat 'customers' or 'collaborators' differently based on gender projections (e.g. assuming women know nothing about cars, or men about children)… Opportunities for laypeople to embody spiritual insights are numberless! This is the bodhisattva path!

Entanglement doesn't have to be a consequence of inter-dependence; the ignorant ordinary mind is what makes it to be.
One is 'caught' in entanglement only as long as one sees separate, individual ropes of specific colours… without seeing a wider process. Concentration (meditation) allows to single out any unwholesome rope (tendency, not person!) that needs ceasing, when the opportunity is present and such a focus is what the situation demands. Mindfulness (meditation) allows to see the bigger picture when such a wider perspective is what the situation demands. The Middle Way is found in acting in accordance with what the situation demands, rather than with personal biases, prejudices and preferences.

21C Literacies: Collaboration

Ht +dawn ahukanna

As a leader, your default mode should be to share everything with as much of your organization as you can. And no, I don’t mean “everything that wouldn’t look bad if it leaked and doesn’t hurt anyone’s feelings,” I mean everything you possibly can.

Leaders always think they know what's critical to share. But if you arm smart creatives with as much information as you can, they’ll be able to solve problems and identify opportunities you might never come up with.

Life in the Village, part 48: People Are Strangers Until You Smile

Beauty is instant action at a distance, and the shortest distance between two hearts is a smile.

Had to share this little snapshot which made me smile.
Neither of us spoke the other's language. So I simply smiled. Huge. She smiled back. Huger. Then it was game on.
Her off-camera companion was easily in his mid 80's and in hindsight. I wish I'd thought to capture him as well.

Visual Storytelling: Milky Way

The Milky Way offers wayfinding.
A pack of Coyotes are howling,
while pursuing their path.

I was setting up the tripod for this picture when a pack of coyotes began howling and yelping to each other, and as I was framing the shot the pack quieted down before moving closer to see what I was doing. At least that's what I imagined they were up to since I could hear them walking through the brush. I'll admit it was a little distracting, and I suddenly realized how much I ignore the ringing from Tinnitus as I tried to keep track of their movement in the dark.

Zen of Small Tasks: Think Inside The Box

“All creative art is magic, is evocation of the unseen in forms persuasive, enlightening, familiar and surprising, for the edification of mankind, pinned down by the conditions of its existence to the earnest consideration of the most insignificant tides of reality.” (Joseph Conrad)

Eleonora Zschornak did not board planes anymore. Not since decades. At least not since the rather embarrassing if memorable incident at Berlin Tempelhof Airport when the staff there began to use metal detectors and insisted on opening the box she always carried with her. Eleonora appeared as moderate-sized lady of indeterminate age, quite unremarkable, as if she had willed her features into the nondescriptness of a human chameleon blending into the crowd. The one distinctive feature Eleonora had was that box. Old, yes, and full of the trappings of her trade. A witch’s grocery list that had become tangible reality. Blood of Bat, Eyes of Newt, Love Potion No 9 and whatnot. And even her protestations that she was far heavier than a duck and not made of wood at all, it was a fair cop. As soon as the security official saw the content of Eleonora’s box, he decided in an instant that she was a dangerous nutcase and called for help. Not so long ago, it would have been a death sentence, these days probably just a prolonged stay in a place where shoelaces and belts were considered off-limits. Still, not much of a prospect and Eleonora decided to adopt a few radical measures. She had never liked Tempelhof very much anyway. Not that she needed the paraphernalia in the box. She was a true practitioner of the Art. But she liked the way she had arranged the things that were usually associated with what she did and reminded her not to ask too much of her audience. However, after all was said and done, the box was rather bothersome while boarding a plane. Thus, Eleonora preferred slow trains, hitchhiking or simply walking to get to the places where she usually worked her magic.

A replica of Eleonora’s travelling witch’s box is now on exhibition in the #wunderkammer as a gentle reminder of the quirks of all great artists and, of course, to be wondered and marvelled at, as usually.

Zen of Small Tasks: Emergence by Design

#patterning

Might it be that we already have all of the ingredients we need to solve the problem?

I've been a Max Tegmark fan pretty much since the first talk I saw him give. I especially enjoyed this very recent, short, succinct exposition on the hard problem of consciousness - the mechanism of subjective awareness - that Max gave as part of a TEDx event. Consciousness is what it feels like for information to be processed in a certain way, and Consciousness is another state of matter, and There is nothing particularly special about consciousness are all statements that - individually - may be swiftly dismissed by some. But if you allow Max to add some meat to these concepts and weave a descriptive narrative to link them together you might very well find his thesis compelling. I certainly do, and have been pursuing similar lines of thought for some years now.

I originally came across this talk on Google+ but can't remember who originally shared it to my stream, having saved it to "Watch Later" a week or two ago. Whoever it was: thank you :)

For anyone interested in adding to their "Watch Later" list, I've dug up another of Max's talks from a couple of years ago that I also found particularly interesting: Max Tegmark on "The Future of Life: a Cosmic Perspective" at Singularity Summit 2011

21C Literacies: Dynamic Narrative Alignment

Down To Earth - Peter Gabriel - Wall-E - End Titles

We need to cocreate a set of new narratives. Then we need new looms, upon which we can weave together our conversations and our stories, in a way that makes sense, not only to us, but seven generations (at least) to come.

On top of all this, we need an agreed, evolving set of generative metrics, with which we can discern whether we're making any progress or not.

Cocreation
Meaningful connectivity between people, things and ecosystems.

Connectivism
"Connectivism is the thesis that knowledge is distributed across a network of connections, and therefore that learning consists of the ability to construct and traverse those networks."
--  +Stephen Downes

Value Cocreation Capability
In a network, any sufficiently advanced value cocreation capability is indistinguishable from graph traversal.

Generativity
Slightly abundant, co-evolving interdependence.

Niche
A local optima out of an ongoing negotiation and agreement, between individual desire and ecosystemic, evolutionary constraint.

Synthesis
A living dynamic balancing between reciprocity and reach.

Frame
An active perspective that outlines, describes and perceptually changes a given situation towards unfolding a meaningful approach and viable path.

Culture
Residue of heuristics, experience and time. cf

Situational Leading
A motivated, continuous effort to understand connections between people, places and practices with a mindful, inclusive and clear intention to anticipate our own and others trajectories in order to act convivially, collectively and effectively.

Collaborative Sensemaking
Situational leading and following in context.

Communication
"Symphony or embryo, the principle is the same: the more complex the pattern, the more important the silences."
-- Robert Pollack

Patterning
Pattern is seven things:  context, problems, forces, participation, modelling, solutions.

Techne
We adapt to a rapidly changing world by adopting artifacts that helps us make sense of the world.

Social
Social is four things: village square, gossip, worry and narrative.

Narrative
What individual people are talking about, what people as a whole are thinking about it and what a society is doing about it.

Civilization
A collectively agreed (more or less) dynamic framework around a large ongoing annotated About/To Do - list.

Intelligent Behavior
An emergent, evolving individual phenomenon out of experience, space and time.

Convivial Culture
An emergent, evolving collective phenomenon out of experience, space and time.

Conversations
Culturally agreed and individually practiced sets of complex responsive processes.

Conversational Learning
content, context, conversations, context, content

Dynamic Narrative Representation
An artifact affording representations of emergent patterns.

Social Object
An artifact wrapped in story touching upon narrative.

"Technology creates three things: leverage, amplification and hamster wheels."
-- John Kellden

Time: Chronos and Kairos
“If we stop believing in a future, if we stop doing things for something else but start doing them for now, some fundamental things change. Retirement becomes less about how much money you can squirrel away now and much more a matter of participating and contributing to your own community now so that they want to take care of you. … We’re going to move into a world where your retirement will be more secure if you’ve made lots of friends with young people rather than collected lots of dollars.”
--  +Douglas Rushkoff

Awe
"Awe happens when we reconnect and realign Chronos with Kairos, chronological time with the quality in our particular space and time we find ourselves."
-- John Kellden

Generativity
"A quality of a complex adaptive living system from which its participants draws independent/interdependent abilities to create, generate or produce new content, contexts, intentionality, meaning, impact and value unique to and co-evolving with the system."
-- John Kellden riffing on Wikipedia:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Generativity

Play
Any sufficiently advanced play is indistinguishable from applied, generative, convivial mindfulness and presence.

Success
Perception is eighty percent of success. The remaining twentythree percent is all about play.

Community of Inclusivity
Essentially a pattern that connects, with some of the core building blocks being:
- a group of people - around ten to thirty or so
- timely, meaningful, contextually relevant communication
- meaningful, constructive, respectiful dialogue
- a shared ethos of inclusivity

Community of Inquiry
A set of generative sequences interwoven with a set of lines of inquiry, with some of the core characteristics being:
- a group of people - around three hundred to a thousand or so
- timely, meaningful, contextually relevant communication
- skillful conversation
- a shared commitment to the principles and values underlying the inquiry

21C Generative Sequence
seed, enact, align, unfold

Every sufficiently advanced task always emanates from core value realignment. Out of which the massively multiplayer, parallell, oblique dynamic narrative alignment, which provides ecosystems of becoming, providing fertile soil and soul for the residue of our uniqueness and belonging, turning into seed.

Your Brain On Unfolding Wholeness

Whereto: Dynamic Narrative Realignment
"Narrative is sculpting time. It is a way for us to cocreate meaning out of seeming meaninglessness. It is fundamentally creative."
-- +John Kellden

How: Building Discernment Capability
"In a network, the creative tension between story and narrative serves as a source, both for all conversations that matter, as well as building discernment capability for (a convivial) leveraging of serendipity."
-- +John Kellden    http://goo.gl/7F8bFW

Why: Core engine of value
"Metalogue is to narrative, what communication is to story."
-- +John Kellden

What: Expertise as Selective Attention - Meaningful Patterns of Play

#teahousesequence :
access, attract, anneal, augment, achieve

Narrative
What individual people are talking about, what people as a whole are thinking about it and what a society is doing about it.

Social
Four things: village square, gossip, worry and narratives.

Civilization
A collectively agreed (more or less) dynamic framework of natural and cultural artifacts around a large collectively negotiated About list.

Behavior
An emergent phenomenon out of experience, space and time.

Intelligent Behavior
Massively parallell non-linear feedback and feedforward loops.

Intelligence
A convivial differential inherent in knowledge.

Action
Applied intelligence.

Experience
Feedback from applied action.

Impact
Relative lack of dynamic narrative alignment given the context and ecosystems.

Language
Dynamic UX around working systems.

Art
A 21st C literacy for resolving experienced imperfection.

Poetry
Art, imperfection and experience, codified.

Math: Patterning
Math is all patterns. If we listen to Godel yet also read him with forgiving eyes, we can use math to design working tools and platforms, like eg Google+. While Google+ is far from what would be optimal, it is a significant step in our evolution towards dynamic narrative realignment.

Holding space enables meaningfulness to emerge
"The problem is no longer getting people to express themselves, but providing little gaps of solitude and silence in which they might eventually find something to say. Repressive forces don’t stop people from expressing themselves, but rather, force them to express themselves. What a relief to have nothing to say, the right to say nothing, because only then is there a chance of framing the rare, or ever rarer, the thing that might be worth saying.”

21C Enaction: Fifths

Ping +Ron Scroggin

For those of you who somehow didn't find 2048 distracting enough, here's an infinite version where you build up notes along the circle of fifths. It plays the notes as you match them, which is strangely soothing and hypnotic, even when it's somewhat discordant. The infinity is handled by simply trying to get as many cycles around the circle as you can.

A warning: new tiles are only generated from within the five notes prior to the highest note you have on the board. This means that when you open up a new note, any notes you have from the "oldest" note you still have on the board can easily be stranded: no new tiles will show up which match them. This definitely adds some challenge.
